Moon Electric Toothbrush Review: Great Battery Life, Missing Pressure Sensor

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Verdict: The Moon Electric Toothbrush is a stylish, travel-friendly sonic brush with five modes, a two-minute timer, a travel case, and unusually long advertised battery life. Its biggest weakness is the absence of a pressure sensor. That makes it a reasonable buy for moderate-pressure brushers who value design and portability, but a weaker choice for anyone who routinely brushes too hard or wants detailed coaching.

Moon is most compelling when discounted. At full price, compare its proprietary replacement heads, one-year warranty, and limited safety feedback with similarly priced Philips Sonicare and Oral-B models.

Moon Electric Toothbrush: quick verdict

Feature Moon Electric Toothbrush
Movement Sonic vibration
Modes Clean, White, Polish, Massage, Sensitive
Advertised speed Up to 36,000 vibrations per minute
Battery claim Up to six weeks, based on four minutes of daily brushing
Timer Two minutes with 30-second interval prompts
Pressure sensor No
Replacement reminder No
Travel case Included with the listed editions
Warranty One year

Moon’s main selling point is convenience: it combines a long claimed runtime with a travel case and simple controls. The compromise is that it offers fewer safeguards and less feedback than more advanced competitors. NBC Select’s comparison lists Moon as having one intensity level, no pressure sensor, no brush-head replacement indicator, no smart features, and no ADA Seal of Acceptance. Read the comparison at NBC Select.

What is included?

Listed Moon editions include the rechargeable handle, a USB charging base, two interchangeable brush heads, and a travel case. Package contents can vary by standard or limited edition, so check the exact product page before ordering. The Hello Kitty product page, for example, lists two heads and describes the brush as waterproof, with a non-slip ergonomic handle and five sonic modes.

#1 Best Overall
MOON Sonic Electric Toothbrush for Adults & Teens, 5 Smart Modes, Black
  • Powerful Yet Gentle - We designed this rechargeable electric toothbrush for adults and teens. It has a waterproof body, ergnonomic feel and no-slip handle. Its USB-powered charging base can power your brush for up to 6 weeks on a single charge
  • 5 Sonic Cleaning Modes - This smart toothbrush has five tailored vibration patterns: 'Clean' for daily care, 'White' to remove plaque and brighten teeth, 'Polish' to gently buff and polish, 'Sensitive' for delicate teeth and gums, and a gentle 'Massage' mode
  • 120x More Powerful Than A Manual Toothbrush - This automatic toothbrush can produce up to 36,000 sonic vibrations per minute for a deep clean and stain prevention. Its 2-minute guided brushing timer is divided into 30-second intervals, and makes it easy to care for your oral hygiene
  • Includes Charger, Travel Case and 2 Brush Heads - Each brush head has 720 tapered, ultra-fine Dupont bristles that can last up to 4x longer than natural brush bristles, and offer a deeper reach. The included case is sleek and ready to make this your go-to travel electric toothbrush
  • Oral Care Reimagined - MOON believes beauty starts with your smile. We're reimagining oral care by redefining what it means to take care of your teeth. Better designs, better ingredients and better-for-you products like this streamlined, vibrating toothbrush

The brush heads use 720 tapered, ultra-fine DuPont bristles, according to Moon. That is a construction specification rather than independent evidence that the heads clean better than competing designs. Moon says its heads should be replaced every three months and that only Moon replacement heads are compatible. See Moon’s replacement-head information.

Design, modes and everyday usability

Moon is aimed at buyers who do not want a clinical-looking bathroom appliance. Its colors, collaborations and compact travel setup are genuine advantages if appearance matters to you. The non-slip handle and included case should also make it more practical for travel than a basic manual brush or a bulky countertop model.

There are five named modes:

  • Clean: the everyday brushing setting.
  • White: intended for stain-focused brushing.
  • Polish: intended for a more polishing-oriented routine.
  • Massage: intended for gentler gum stimulation.
  • Sensitive: intended for users who prefer a lower-intensity experience.

Do not assume that five names equal five independently developed cleaning programs. NBC Select lists the brush as having one intensity level, so the modes appear to be the primary way Moon varies the brushing experience. The available evidence does not establish that White or Polish produces better whitening, or that Massage treats gum problems.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The two-minute timer and 30-second prompts are more important than the mode count. They encourage a full brushing session and help divide attention between the four areas of the mouth. However, Moon does not provide app coaching, mouth-position tracking, Bluetooth feedback, or an automatic replacement reminder.

Battery life and charging

Moon claims up to six weeks per charge when the brush is used for four minutes each day—two two-minute sessions. It says a full charge takes approximately 12 hours. The battery indicator reportedly glows red when charging is needed and turns solid green when charging is complete. See Moon’s battery and charging guidance.

Six weeks should be treated as a manufacturer claim, not a guaranteed ownership result. Battery life changes with brushing frequency, session length, mode selection, battery age and storage conditions. Tech Advisor reported that its brush was still working after three weeks but did not test it through the full six-week period. That is useful supporting evidence, but it is not a complete verification of Moon’s maximum claim.

Black Series can last 4 full weeks (2 min/2x a day) on a full charge so it’s perfect for on the go travel with the included travel case.
  • What's in the Box - 1 AquaSonic Black Series Smart Toothbrush, 1 wireless charging base, 8 DuPont brush heads, 1 travel case, warranty card, and user manual.

Even with that qualification, the claimed runtime is one of Moon’s strongest advantages. It is particularly useful for travelers who do not want to pack a charger or search for an outlet every few days. The 12-hour full-charge time is less convenient if you discover an empty battery shortly before leaving, but the long runtime reduces how often that problem should occur.

The missing pressure sensor matters

Moon’s most important omission is a pressure sensor. The brush does not appear to provide a visual, audible or tactile warning when you press too hard. Sensitive mode may reduce the brushing intensity, but it does not regulate the pressure applied by your hand.

That matters because aggressive brushing can irritate gums and contribute to abrasion. If you tend to scrub forcefully, have gum recession, or are trying to change an established brushing habit, a model with pressure feedback is likely a better fit. A manual technique—holding the handle lightly and letting the bristles do the work—is especially important with Moon.

This omission outweighs the extra mode names for many buyers. A pressure sensor can prevent a common brushing mistake; a fifth mode is less valuable if the user is applying excessive force in every setting.

Is Moon suitable for sensitive teeth, crowns, veneers or braces?

Moon says its brush is suitable for sensitive users and people with crowns, veneers, braces and other dental work. That is the manufacturer’s guidance, not a universal medical recommendation. The Sensitive mode also does not guarantee that the brush is appropriate for every dental condition.

Ask your dentist before using it if you have active gum disease, significant recession, persistent pain, loose dental work, a recent procedure or an orthodontic appliance that is causing problems. If you do use Moon, start gently, avoid pressing, and stop if brushing causes pain or bleeding that does not resolve.

  • Oral Care Reimagined - MOON stands for going after something ambitious, something groundbreaking – uncharted territory. Explore our full collection to pair this adult toothbrush pack with vegan toothpaste, teeth whitening pens and more

Moon also says children ages 6 to 10 require supervision or instruction. The brush should not be treated as a substitute for age-appropriate dental guidance.

Does 36,000 vibrations mean better cleaning?

Moon advertises up to 36,000 vibrations per minute and describes the brush as 120 times more powerful than a manual toothbrush. These are motor or marketing comparisons, not clinical scores showing that Moon removes 120 times more plaque or cleans 120 times better.

What matters in practice is consistent coverage, gentle pressure, comfortable bristles, a useful timer and brushing twice a day. An electric brush can make those habits easier, but more vibrations do not automatically mean better cleaning. No electric toothbrush replaces flossing or other interdental cleaning.

Replacement heads and ownership cost

Moon recommends replacing the head every three months and says its heads are proprietary. The official replacement-head page showed a two-pack at $16.99, discounted from a displayed regular price of $19.99. Prices, promotions, shipping and stock can change.

Using Moon’s three-month schedule:

  • One year: four heads, or two two-packs. Estimated cost: $33.98 at $16.99 per pack, or $39.98 at $19.99 per pack.
  • Two years: eight heads, or four two-packs. Estimated cost: $67.96 to $79.96.

These estimates exclude tax and shipping and assume the heads are replaced exactly every three months. They also exclude the initial brush purchase.

Older Tech Advisor coverage criticized Moon’s replacement-head subscription model. The current official page shows two-packs available for direct purchase, so that older criticism should not be repeated as a current fact. Moon’s FAQ also describes a “Manage Subscriptions” option for skipping an upcoming delivery. Before buying, confirm current stock, shipping charges and whether subscription orders can be paused or canceled.

Moon compared with alternatives

Choose this category Why it may suit you better Trade-off
Moon Long claimed battery life, travel case, design, sonic operation and five modes No pressure sensor, no smart coaching, proprietary heads and one-year warranty
Philips Sonicare Broader model range, replacement-head ecosystem and selected models with pressure sensing or reminders Model selection can be confusing and premium versions cost more
Oral-B Oscillating-rotating cleaning action, broad availability and many models with pressure sensors Some models feel louder or more mechanical, and battery life varies
Quip Slim, design-focused form factor and subscription convenience Usually fewer modes and less feature depth
Basic rechargeable brush Lower purchase price and often cheaper replacement heads Support, design and availability may be less consistent

There is no universal winner. Compare the exact model, not just the brand. In particular, check pressure protection, replacement-head price, warranty length and charging method before treating a competitor as a bargain. See Philips Sonicare’s current range and Oral-B’s current range.

Warranty and support

Moon provides a one-year warranty for manufacturing defects. The policy requires proof of purchase and applies only to products bought from Moon or an authorized retailer. It excludes misuse and lost items, and Moon may request the product for testing. Read Moon’s warranty terms.

A one-year warranty is serviceable, but it is not a standout advantage. Keep the receipt, especially if buying through a retailer such as Ulta, and check the retailer’s current return policy separately. Retail promotions and subscription discounts should not be confused with a longer warranty.

Who should buy the Moon Electric Toothbrush?

Buy Moon if:

  • You travel frequently and value long battery life.
  • You want a travel case included.
  • You prefer sonic vibration and simple button controls.
  • You want several modes without an app or account.
  • You care about appearance and limited-edition styling.
  • You can control brushing pressure yourself.
  • You have reliable access to Moon replacement heads at an acceptable price.

Choose another brush if:

  • You routinely press too hard and need pressure feedback.
  • You want automatic coaching, mouth mapping or Bluetooth features.
  • You want a replacement-head reminder.
  • You prefer universal or widely interchangeable heads.
  • You expect a two-year warranty.
  • You are primarily buying for gum-health monitoring.

Final recommendation

The Moon Electric Toothbrush is a good-looking, convenient mid-priced sonic brush—not a feature leader. Its advertised six-week battery life, travel case, timer and five modes make it attractive for travelers and design-conscious buyers. Its proprietary heads and one-year warranty are manageable ownership compromises, especially because direct replacement-head purchases are currently shown on Moon’s site.

But the missing pressure sensor is a meaningful limitation. If you brush gently and value portability, Moon is worth considering, particularly at a sale price. If you brush aggressively, have sensitivity and want automatic protection, or expect advanced feedback for the money, choose a pressure-sensing Philips Sonicare, Oral-B or another suitable model instead.
