To adjust the separate wireless subwoofer on a Samsung soundbar, use the remote button labeled Woofer, S/W, or S/W Level when your model has one. On other remotes, press Sound Control or the gear button, select the woofer or subwoofer option, and then use the direction controls. Samsung uses different procedures across soundbar generations, so the exact model number matters.
The fastest method: use Woofer or S/W
On newer Samsung Q-Series-style remotes, adjust the subwoofer while audio is playing:
As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.
- Turn on the soundbar and start a film, music track, or other audio.
- Press the remote’s Woofer button or rocker.
- Press or slide Up to increase the subwoofer level.
- Press or slide Down to reduce it.
Listen for several seconds after each change. Samsung’s 2025 Q-Series guidance describes this as the dedicated woofer-level control; the display may show the current value or setting. See Samsung’s Q-Series soundbar controls guide for the referenced procedure.

If your remote has Sound Control instead
Older and different Samsung remotes may use S/W, S/W Level, Subwoofer, or a Sound Control button. For these models:

- Press Sound Control or the button marked with a gear icon.
- Press it repeatedly until the soundbar display shows WOOFER, SUBWOOFER, S/W, or the relevant bass setting.
- Use Up/Down or Left/Right to change the value.
Button labels, adjustment ranges, and display behavior vary by model. Samsung’s HW-T550 troubleshooting guidance illustrates why instructions for one remote should not be assumed to apply to every Samsung soundbar.
Identify the exact model first
Look for the model number on the back or underside of the soundbar. It will usually begin with HW-, followed by a code such as HW-Q600F, HW-Q900F, or HW-T550. Search that exact identifier on Samsung Support and open the matching user manual. For example, Samsung provides support pages with manuals and firmware resources for the HW-Q600F and HW-Q900F.

| Control | What it changes | Use it when |
|---|---|---|
| Woofer/Subwoofer/S.W. Level | The relative output of the separate low-frequency speaker | You want the external subwoofer louder or quieter |
| BASS | The system’s broader bass tonal balance; on referenced newer Q-Series models, it also affects woofer output | You want a warmer, thinner, or more neutral overall sound |
| Volume | The loudness of the complete system | You want everything louder or quieter |
| Sound mode | Processing and tonal presentation | Bass changes noticeably between movies, games, music, and speech |
Important: if you want to make the separate subwoofer louder or quieter, choose Woofer, Subwoofer, or S/W Level. A button labeled only BASS may control bass EQ instead.
On the referenced 2025 Q-Series models, Samsung lists BASS and TREBLE adjustments from -6 to +6 through Tone Control, and says changing BASS also affects the woofer level. Samsung also notes that Tone Control may be unavailable in Standard mode. Other models can behave differently.
How to find a good setting
There is no universal best number. Room size, placement, listening position, content, and sound mode all affect the result.

- SPACEFIT SOUND PRO: Get room-filling sound calibrated to your space, with a soundbar that analyzes your environment and automatically optimizes the audio accordingly for an accurate and clear sound
- Begin with the current or neutral setting.
- Use a familiar dialogue-heavy film scene, then test music with clear low-frequency content.
- Raise the woofer one step at a time.
- Stop when effects and music have weight without overwhelming voices.
- Lower it if the bass becomes boomy, one-note, rattly, muddy, or obviously localized to the subwoofer.
Judge the sound from your normal seating position—not beside the subwoofer. More bass is not automatically better: excessive output can cause room vibration and reduce dialogue clarity, while too little can make a soundtrack sound thin.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteCheck sound modes and room optimization
Modes such as Standard, Surround, Game Pro, and Adaptive Sound can change perceived bass without changing the woofer setting. Choose your preferred mode first, run SpaceFit Sound Pro or another room-optimization feature if your model supports it, and adjust the woofer afterward. Recheck the balance when switching modes.
Room placement also matters. Keep the subwoofer powered, on a stable surface, and clear of obstructions around its driver or port. If the bass is boomy, try moving it away from a corner. If it sounds weak at the seating position, small placement changes can help because room modes make bass much louder in some parts of a room than others.

Why the subwoofer may sound weak or silent
1. A listening feature is suppressing it
On supported newer Q-Series models, Moderate Bass can mute the subwoofer and route bass through the soundbar instead. Turn that feature off while testing. It is not available on every Samsung soundbar.
2. The source contains little bass
News, spoken-word programs, and some television broadcasts may contain very little low-frequency information. Test with a film soundtrack or music track known to contain bass before concluding that the subwoofer has failed.
3. The wireless connection or power is faulty
- Check that the subwoofer power cable is firmly connected.
- Inspect its indicator light for a normal connected state.
- A blinking light or connection warning may indicate that pairing is needed.
Follow the pairing procedure in the manual for your exact model. Do not reset the system immediately: a reset can erase settings and may not fix a power, placement, or wireless-link problem.

When the remote adjustment does nothing
- Watch the soundbar’s front display while pressing the control. Confirm that a value or mode changes.
- Aim the soundbar remote at the soundbar, not only at the television.
- Replace weak batteries.
- Confirm you are not pressing the master-volume control by mistake.
- Try the soundbar’s physical controls, if available.
- Check the exact model manual for the correct remote sequence.
If the remote changes delay, treble, or another setting instead, stop using that procedure. The remote layout may belong to a different model generation.
Can a Samsung TV remote or SmartThings adjust the woofer?
A compatible Samsung TV remote may control basic soundbar power or volume, but it may not provide the dedicated woofer adjustment. Use the soundbar’s own remote unless your specific TV and soundbar combination explicitly supports that control. Features such as Q-Symphony are also limited to compatible Samsung devices and connection methods; see Samsung’s compatibility guidance.
SmartThings is a model-dependent alternative. If supported, add or register the soundbar in the app, connect the phone and soundbar as required, and look for audio or speaker-level controls. SmartThings may require a Samsung account and compatible network setup, and it does not expose identical controls for every soundbar. If the app lacks woofer adjustment, use the physical remote. Samsung describes related ecosystem requirements on its soundbar product information page.

| Symptom | First action |
|---|---|
| Sound is thin | Raise the woofer slightly and test again. |
| Bass is boomy or the room rattles | Lower the woofer and try moving the subwoofer away from a corner. |
| Effects are clear but voices are muddy | Lower the woofer and, if needed, reduce BASS EQ. |
| No bass at all | Check the listening mode, source, power, indicator light, and wireless connection before raising the level. |
Replacement is rarely the first answer to a simple setting problem. If the subwoofer has no normal indicator, will not pair, or remains silent with multiple bass-heavy sources after model-specific troubleshooting, consult Samsung Support for the exact unit.
