It proposes new pedestrian routes into the block leading to Rose Yard, plus a flexible community space at ground level in the Verso Building. What is the planning status?
The application is identified as Hackney planning application 2024/2201. The GLA’s listing records a representation hearing on 7 October 2026, but the available records do not establish the Deputy Mayor’s decision at that hearing. The same listing identifies a Stage 3 report and draft planning and listed-building-consent decision notices. A hearing or draft notice is not itself a grant of permission.

Accordingly, the claim that the masterplan was “given the go-ahead” cannot be confirmed from these records. How did the application reach the Mayor?
- Hackney validated the application. The GLA records that application 2024/2201 was validated on 6 March 2025 and that a Stage 1 report followed on 9 June 2025.
- Hackney’s committee deferred its decision. On 4 February 2026, the Planning Sub-Committee voted two in favour and five against the officers’ recommendation. What does the design retain and add?
KPF says the existing site includes heritage buildings, post-war buildings and more than 3,600 m² of non-accessible open space. The architect says the design prioritises retention and retrofit, retaining about 48% of the original fabric.
