The cited Keter Cortina 200-gallon box offers substantially more nominal capacity, a taller interior and a double-piston lid, while the cited Lifetime 130-gallon box is shallower, has a 10-year limited warranty and is marketed for bench use. They are not a like-for-like size comparison: one holds 200 gallons and the other 130.

For a lower-profile box that can double as a bench and comes with a longer advertised warranty, the Lifetime 130-gallon model 60298 is the better fit. Its 24-inch exterior depth can be easier to place along a narrow wall or walkway, and its controlled spring hinge opens beyond 90 degrees.

That conclusion compares two different capacities. It does not establish that one manufacturer builds a longer-lasting product. Both sets of material and weather claims come from the manufacturers, not from an independent long-term exposure test.

The dimensions are not labeled in exactly the same order. Keter gives width, depth and height; Lifetime gives length, width and height. Use the actual shape and opening orientation when planning placement rather than comparing the first number in each row.
Which box fits a patio better?
Start with floor footprint
The Keter measures 59.7 by 28.5 inches outside. The Lifetime measures 60 by 24 inches. Their lengths are nearly identical, but the Keter extends 4.5 inches farther from the wall. Multiplying the published dimensions gives an approximate footprint of 1,701 square inches for the Keter and 1,440 square inches for the Lifetime; the Keter therefore uses about 18 percent more floor area before allowing for clearance.
On a tight balcony, beside a doorway or along a narrow path, that extra depth can be decisive. Mark each footprint on the patio with tape, then check that people can still walk past it, open nearby gates and reach outdoor equipment.

- Ergonomically Designed: Work in tight areas with a compact design that gets into tough spots
- Both tools are designed to fit into difficult to reach spaces
- Complete a wide range of applications with a high-performance motor that delivers up to 300 UWO, and an impact driver delivering up to 1,400 in-lbs of torque
- Both the DEWALT impact driver and drill driver feature integrated LED work lights with a convenient 20-second delay, ensuring enhanced visibility in dimly lit or challenging work areas
- One-Handed Loading - Keep one hand free with a 1/4 in. hex chuck that accepts 1 in. bit tips
Allow clearance above and in front
Do not measure only the closed box. The lid needs space to swing and your body needs room to stand in front while loading it. The Keter is 35.4 inches high, compared with 26.3 inches for the Lifetime. A low shelf, window sill, railing or roof overhang may interfere with the taller Keter even when its floor footprint fits.
Lifetime says the 130-gallon lid opens beyond 90 degrees, which can leave the opening clear of the lid during loading. Keter specifies a double-piston system but does not provide an equivalent opening angle in the cited listing. Check the physical hinge movement for the exact version before placing it beneath an overhang.
Check the patio surface
Set either box on a firm, level surface. A slope can make the lid sit unevenly, increase hinge stress and leave one corner carrying more load. The published specifications do not identify a required foundation or provide installation tolerances, so follow the selected model’s instructions and avoid assuming that an irregular deck or soft lawn is acceptable.
How much storage do you really get?
Nominal capacity is not packing capacity
The Keter’s 200-gallon rating is about 54 percent higher than the Lifetime’s 130-gallon rating. That difference matters for deep cushions, folded umbrellas, children’s ride-on accessories and other bulky items, but the number alone cannot predict how many pieces will fit. Cushion thickness, armrests, handles and the box’s hinge intrusion all consume usable space.

Keter lists an interior of 56.2 inches wide, 25 inches deep and 33.18 inches high. Lifetime lists 57.6 inches long, 22.6 inches wide and 23.4 inches high. The boxes are close in their longest horizontal dimension, but the Keter is 9.78 inches taller internally and 2.4 inches deeper on the comparable horizontal measure.
That extra height favors upright or stacked items, provided they do not obstruct the lid. The Lifetime’s lower interior can be easier to reach into from a seated position, but tall stacks may require more careful packing. Lay out your largest item and measure its longest, widest and thickest points; then compare those measurements with the opening, not only the cavity.
Measure cushions before ordering
- Remove covers or compression straps only if they will be used that way in storage.
- Measure each cushion’s maximum length, width and thickness, including piping and rounded corners.
- Group cushions as they will be stacked, leaving room to lift the top group out.
- Compare the group with the box’s interior dimensions and the lid opening.
- Reserve space for a breathable cover or moisture-control method if your storage plan uses one; do not compress items so tightly that the lid cannot close.
Neither listing promises a watertight interior for every weather condition. Store moisture-sensitive fabrics only when they are dry, and use the manufacturer’s care guidance for the selected model.

Lid handling and everyday access
Keter’s piston design
The Cortina 200-gallon listing identifies a double-piston system. Pistons can reduce the effort needed to raise a large lid and help control its movement, which is useful when the box is opened frequently. The listing does not establish a piston service interval, replacement procedure or performance after years of exposure.
Lifetime’s controlled spring hinge
The Lifetime 130-gallon listing identifies a controlled spring hinge that opens beyond 90 degrees. This design keeps the lid supported while you load the box and avoids holding it manually at a partial angle. The product-page questions include a user asking whether a broken hinge piston can be replaced, but the cited material does not provide a replacement answer or part number.
What to inspect in a showroom or on delivery
- Open the lid through its full travel and check that it remains supported without binding.
- Look for an even seal or rim contact when the lid is closed.
- Confirm that the hinge hardware is aligned and that no fastener is loose.
- Make sure the lid does not strike a wall, railing or nearby furniture.
- Load a light item first and verify that the opening remains usable before filling the box.
Materials, UV claims and expected durability
Keter describes the Cortina as double-walled resin with UV-resistant construction. Lifetime describes the 130-gallon box as dual-wall high-density polyethylene with UV-protected, weather-resistant construction. These statements explain the intended materials and design, but they are manufacturer claims rather than independent weather-exposure results.
Sun intensity, freeze-thaw cycles, standing water, salt air, tree sap and impact can vary widely by location. Place the box where drainage is good, keep the lid and rim free of grit, and inspect the hinge area at the start and end of the season. A clean, dry interior reduces the chance that stored fabrics develop odors or mildew, regardless of which material the shell uses.
There is no substantiated head-to-head evidence here that the resin Cortina lasts longer than the polyethylene Lifetime box, or vice versa. Treat the warranty and the manufacturer’s maintenance instructions as separate decision factors, not proof of a durability ranking.
Locking and security
Both cited models have lockable lids, and neither includes a padlock. The available specifications do not establish which padlock body, shackle diameter or cable will fit the lock point. Measure the opening on the delivered box or confirm compatibility with the manufacturer before purchasing a lock.
A lock can discourage casual access, but a resin or polyethylene deck box is not a safe for high-value property. Do not store irreplaceable documents, hazardous chemicals or valuables on the assumption that a locked lid provides theft protection. Anchor requirements, if any, depend on the exact model and installation instructions; do not drill or modify the box without checking warranty consequences.

Seating and load claims
Keter’s published figure
Keter describes the Cortina 200-gallon box as usable as seating and lists a 110.25-pound loading capacity. That figure should be treated as a model-specific advertised limit, not as a universal safe bench rating.
Lifetime’s published figure
Lifetime describes the 130-gallon model for bench use and lists a 900-pound weight capacity. The listing does not show that the same test conditions were used for Keter’s 110.25-pound figure.

Practical seating precautions
Use seating only as the selected manufacturer’s instructions permit. Keep the box on a level surface, distribute weight rather than concentrating it on one corner, and do not stand on the lid. If several people will sit on it, verify the model-specific limit and any restrictions in the complete warranty documentation.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Warranty and ownership risk
The cited Keter page lists a limited two-year warranty. The cited Lifetime page lists a limited 10-year warranty. A longer period can reduce replacement risk, but duration alone does not reveal exclusions, proof-of-purchase rules, geographic limits, labor coverage or what happens after a hinge or lid component fails.
Read the complete terms for the exact item number before buying. Keep the receipt, model label and photographs of the installed box. Do not assume that a warranty on the shell covers accessories, cosmetic fading, misuse, storm damage or unauthorized modifications.
Other sizes that change the decision
Keter Cortina 30-gallon
Keter also lists a 30-gallon Cortina with exterior dimensions of 20.8 by 20.8 by 20.9 inches and an interior of 18.8 by 18.8 by 18.9 inches. This is a compact container for a much smaller load, such as a few hand tools or small patio accessories. It should not be treated as an alternative to either large deck box for sectional cushions.
Lifetime 150-gallon model 60340
Lifetime separately lists model 60340 at 150 gallons, with exterior dimensions of 59.3 by 28.3 by 27.6 inches and an interior of 56.3 by 25.4 by 24.7 inches. Lifetime has more than one 150-gallon version, so confirm the model number and dimensions before comparing it with the Cortina 200 or the 130-gallon model.

A decision framework for patio storage
Choose the Cortina 200 when these priorities dominate
- You need the larger 200-gallon nominal capacity.
- Your patio can accommodate a 28.5-inch-deep footprint and 35.4-inch height.
- A taller interior is useful for bulky or stackable items.
- You prefer the listed double-piston lid system.
- You accept a listed two-year limited warranty after reviewing its terms.
Choose the Lifetime 130 when these priorities dominate
- A shallower 24-inch depth is important in a narrow passage.
- You prefer a lower 26.3-inch profile.
- The controlled spring hinge and opening beyond 90 degrees suit your loading position.
- Bench use and the manufacturer’s 900-pound listed capacity matter to your plan.
- The listed 10-year limited warranty is valuable after checking its exclusions.
Reconsider both before ordering
- Your largest cushion or equipment exceeds the interior opening.
- The lid would hit a wall, railing, window or roof overhang.
- The only available location is sloped, soft or prone to standing water.
- You need a certified security container rather than a lockable outdoor box.
- You cannot verify the exact model, regional warranty or delivered price.
Buying checklist
- Write down the exact model and item number, not merely the line name.
- Measure the installation area in width, depth and height.
- Add clearance for lid travel, loading space and pedestrian access.
- Measure the largest stored item and compare it with the interior dimensions and opening.
- Confirm whether the intended use includes seating and follow the model-specific load limit.
- Check the lock point and buy a padlock only after compatibility is confirmed.
- Read the complete limited-warranty terms, including modification and maintenance exclusions.
- Verify current stock, regional availability, shipping and delivered price; listings and estimates can change.
- Photograph the model label and retain purchase records for any warranty claim.
Maintenance that protects your choice
Keep the lid rim and hinge area free of leaves, sand and grit. Wipe spills promptly, dry cushions before storage and inspect the box after severe weather. Open and close the lid periodically rather than forcing it after a long period of disuse. If a piston, spring hinge or fastener shows damage, stop loading the box and consult the manufacturer instead of improvising a repair.
Do not add casters, wheels, drilled anchor points or other modifications until the warranty terms are clear. A change that solves a placement problem can also invalidate coverage or weaken the shell.
Bottom line
The Keter Cortina 200 is the capacity-first option: it holds 200 gallons, has a deeper and taller form, and uses a listed double-piston lid. The Lifetime 130 is the fit-and-warranty option: it is shallower and lower, has a controlled spring hinge, is marketed for bench use and lists a 10-year limited warranty. Because the examples are different sizes and the durability claims are not independently tested, the right purchase is the exact model that fits your measured patio and storage load, with the warranty and lock details verified before checkout.
Frequently Asked Questions
Where can I find the dimensions for the exact box I am buying?
Use the product listing and model label for the selected version, then confirm the measurements in the installation documentation. Line names cover multiple capacities, and Lifetime has more than one 150-gallon version.
Can a broken hinge piston be replaced?
A question about replacing a broken piston appears on the Lifetime 130-gallon product page, but the cited listing does not establish a replacement procedure or part number. Contact Lifetime with the model and serial information before attempting a repair.
Can I add wheels or casters to the Lifetime box?
Lifetime states that its storage deck boxes are not designed to have wheels or casters added and that aftermarket modifications void the 10-year limited warranty. Check the current terms for your exact model before modifying it.
