Japan’s “human washing machine” is a bathing capsule developed by Science Co., not a household washing machine. The company describes an approximately 15-minute automated bathing sequence using fine bubbles, water streams, sensors, and media. “Head to toe” needs qualification: head washing is optional, and the device does not leave users completely dry.
What is Japan’s human washing machine?
Science calls the device the Future Human Washing Machine, or Mirai Ningen Sentakuki. It is an enclosed bathing capsule designed to automate parts of bathing, rather than a machine that washes clothing or a conventional home appliance. Science describes it as a fine-bubble bathing device with sensor control and currently labels it “on sale in limited quantities” on its product page. That does not establish a consumer price or broad retail availability.

The idea has a Japanese exposition history. Science traces its inspiration to the Ultrasonic Bath displayed at the Sanyo Pavilion at Expo ’70, which the company says did not reach practical implementation at the time. Science later exhibited its modern capsule at Expo 2025 Osaka-Kansai. This history is the company’s account, not evidence that the current capsule is the same device as the earlier exhibit.

Science describes an automated sequence lasting about 15 minutes. The capsule fills with warm water to below the bather’s chest, while microbubbles wash the body below the neck. The system uses ECG monitoring to assess the bather’s state; ultrafine-bubble water streams wash the face, and head washing is optional. Images and music are part of the experience. The water then drains and the capsule runs a drying stage.

Although the sequence is promoted as washing from head to toe, the head step is optional. Drying is also incomplete: Science tells users to finish with a towel or hair dryer. The 15-minute figure describes the company’s experience duration, not a guarantee that every step suits every user or that no finishing is needed.
Science says audio and visuals adapt to heart and autonomic-nervous-system readings. These are manufacturer descriptions of the device’s functions. The available product information does not establish that the capsule diagnoses a health condition, treats skin problems, or delivers clinically proven mental-health benefits.
Where can you try it?
Hokkaido hotel sauna installation
SQUEEZE announced general use of the capsule at ES CON FIELD HOKKAIDO Hotel Kitahiroshima Ekimae beginning March 31, 2026, with reservations opening March 19. The operator describes it as part of a private sauna facility: guests move through sauna, cold bath, capsule bath, and outdoor-air bathing, and wear swimsuits in the capsule. These are announced terms, so check the hotel’s booking information for current availability and pricing before making plans.
Tokyo salon announcement
MIRARTH announced in October 2025 that it planned to introduce the device at LEBEN Salon Ikebukuro, with reservations planned from January 2026. That announcement does not confirm current appointment availability, so treat it as a planned demonstration rather than a verified way to book now.

Science’s official product page says the capsule is on sale in limited quantities, but the reviewed product information does not state a consumer price, production quantity, or verified online listing. The company also sells fine-bubble bathing products such as Mirable shower products and the Mirabath bath system. Those are related products, not the human-washing-machine capsule.
What the claims do—and do not—show
The company’s product and process descriptions support explaining how it intends the capsule to operate; they do not independently verify health effects or clinical performance. Science separately publishes figures for Mirabath technology, including about 12,000 ultrafine bubbles per cc. That is a vendor-published figure for Mirabath, not a stated measurement of every capsule cycle.
Science also describes its own Mirabath test in which participants bathed for five minutes in either ordinary 38°C water or microbubble water, then had body-surface temperature compared by infrared thermography 15 minutes later. The company reports a difference of about 3°C. This is a vendor-reported test of Mirabath, not independent evidence about the human-washing-machine capsule or proof of a health benefit.
