IKEA’s UK energy offering is not a shelf-ready range of IKEA-branded heat pumps and solar batteries. It combines partner-delivered energy services—covering heat pumps, solar panels, batteries and EV chargers—with a separate range of IKEA smart-home products such as bulbs, sensors, remotes and energy-monitoring smart plugs.
Here is what has launched, what you can buy directly, what requires a quote, and where the products fit into a UK home.

The short version: two related but separate launches
On 3 October 2025, T3 reported that IKEA had brought its Energy Services platform to the UK through partnerships with Aira and Soly. Aira handles heat-pump systems, while Soly provides solar panels, batteries and EV chargers. The partners carry out the assessment, system design, installation and aftercare; IKEA is not presenting these as ordinary IKEA-manufactured appliances bought from a store shelf. T3’s UK report describes the offer and partner split.

Separately, IKEA announced 21 new Matter-compatible smart-home products globally on 6 November 2025. IKEA’s UK page currently refers to 22 Matter-enabled devices, likely reflecting a different way of counting kits or variations. The range includes KAJPLATS bulbs, sensors, BILRESA remotes and an energy-monitoring smart plug. Check the live UK smart-home catalogue for local availability.

- An Alexa thermostat - Amazon Smart Thermostat is an easy way to switch from a traditional thermostats for homes and help reduce energy usage.
- Create comfort zones throughout your home by connecting to select Alexa devices to automatically adjust heating and cooling based on temperature readings or presence detection.
- Save money and energy - After purchase, Amazon will send you an email with details about home thermostat rebates that may be available from energy providers in your area.
- Save energy - According to EPA estimates, ENERGY STAR certified thermostats save an average of $90 on yearly energy bills.
- Programmable thermostat and automatic control - Create your own home, away and sleep schedules, or have Alexa automatically control the temperature with Alexa+ advanced features.
The distinction matters: a smart plug can measure one connected appliance, but it cannot replace a whole-home energy system, solar battery, smart meter or heat-pump controller.
IKEA Energy Services: the whole-home lineup
| Category | Provider | What it does | How you start |
|---|---|---|---|
| Air-source heat pumps | Aira | Provides a low-carbon heating system designed to replace or reduce reliance on fossil-fuel heating. | Request a property assessment and quote. |
| Solar panels | Soly | Generates electricity at the property. | Request an expert consultation. |
| Home batteries | Soly | Stores generated or cheaper electricity for later use. | Included where appropriate for the system design. |
| EV chargers | Soly | Charges an electric vehicle at home. | Quote and professional installation required. |
| Energy-management software | Aira or Soly | Tracks or manages the installed system, depending on the provider and setup. | Included according to the selected service. |
There are no verified standard UK installed prices for these systems in the available information. A property-specific quote is therefore essential. The final design can depend on the building, existing heating system, insulation, roof, electricity demand, battery needs, vehicle requirements and installation constraints.
Aira heat pumps
Aira’s service includes assessment, system design, installation, payment options and aftercare. T3 reports that Aira offers up to 15 years of warranty or aftercare, but readers should check the exact legal warranty terms, exclusions and service commitments in their quote.
A heat pump is a substantial heating-system project, not an impulse purchase. Before accepting a proposal, check the home’s heat-loss calculation, the suitability of existing radiators, hot-water requirements, outdoor-unit position, controls, expected electricity use, service response and the total cost of any finance agreement.
Soly solar, batteries and EV charging
Soly’s UK offer covers solar panels, home batteries and EV chargers, with installation and energy-management software called Soly Brain. The useful question is not simply how many panels are offered. Ask for the proposed annual generation, battery capacity and usable capacity, inverter warranty, maintenance arrangements, export assumptions, EV-charging setup and whether the battery provides backup power during an outage. Do not assume that every battery does.

Solar and battery economics are property-specific. Roof direction, shading, usable roof area, annual electricity consumption, charging patterns and export arrangements all affect the result. A battery can increase self-consumption and tariff flexibility, but it also adds cost, conversion losses and a future replacement consideration.
IKEA’s Matter-compatible smart-home lineup
The separate IKEA range is aimed at lighting, sensing and everyday automation:
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches- KAJPLATS bulbs: Matter-compatible bulbs in formats including E27/E26, E14/P45 and GU10, with white-spectrum and colour-and-white-spectrum versions. IKEA lists 11 bulb variations, ranging from 470 to 1,521 lumens depending on the model.
- GRILLPLATS smart plug: remotely switches a connected lamp or smaller appliance and tracks its energy use.
- BILRESA remotes: dual-button and scroll-wheel controls, including kits.
- MYGGSPRAY: indoor and outdoor motion sensor.
- MYGGBETT: door and window sensor.
- TIMMERFLOTTE: temperature and humidity sensor.
- ALPSTUGA: air-quality sensor measuring CO2, PM2.5, temperature and humidity.
- KLIPPBOK: water-leak sensor.
- DIRIGERA: IKEA’s central smart-home hub and controller.
IKEA says KAJPLATS is gradually replacing TRÅDFRI in the UK, while existing TRÅDFRI products remain compatible with the IKEA Home smart app. That does not mean older TRÅDFRI devices have suddenly become native Matter products.
GRILLPLATS or INSPELNING? Check the UK model
IKEA’s global announcement names the new energy-monitoring plug GRILLPLATS. The UK documentation available for the function refers to INSPELNING, model E2223. These names should not automatically be treated as identical without checking the current UK product page and article number.
The UK INSPELNING manual says the plug can switch a connected device on and off, pair directly with a compatible steering device, work with DIRIGERA and the IKEA Home smart app, and display the connected device’s power consumption in the app. One steering device can pair with up to 10 smart plugs.

- ENERGY STAR certified smart thermostat for home that helps you save energy and stay comfortable.Connectivity : Wi-Fi - 802.11b/g/n 2.4 GHz, 802.11a/n 5 GHz Wi-Fi., Wireless interconnect : Bluetooth Low Energy Please refer to the product description section below for all applicable legal disclaimers.Product note: You can also check your system’s compatibility before purchasing a Nest thermostat with our online Nest Compatibility Checker on the Google Nest support page
- The Nest Thermostat is designed to work without a C wire in most homes, but for some systems, including heating only, cooling only, zone controlled, and heat pump systems, you’ll need a C wire or other compatible power accessory
- Nest Thermostat turns itself down when you leave, so you don’t waste energy heating or cooling an empty home. Lock feature: No
- Programmable thermostat that lets you create an energy efficient schedule in the Google Home app on your Android or iPhone
- Remote control lets family members change the thermostat temperature from anywhere on a phone, laptop, or tablet[1]
For INSPELNING, the manual specifies 220–240V AC, a maximum output of 3,120W, indoor use only, a 10-metre wireless range in open air, and an operating temperature of 0°C to 35°C. The 10-metre figure can be reduced by walls and building materials. The UK manual says to hold the reset button for at least five seconds to reset the plug. For pairing, hold the steering device within 5cm and press the pairing button for at least 10 seconds.
Smart-plug safety
A maximum electrical rating is not a blanket recommendation for every high-load appliance. Do not use a low-cost smart plug with a heater, kettle, oven, washing machine or other high-power device unless the appliance instructions, plug rating and intended switching behaviour clearly permit it. Some appliances should not restart automatically after power is restored. The plug is intended for indoor use in dry areas.
Do you need DIRIGERA?
Not necessarily. The requirement depends on what you want to do.
| Goal | Likely requirement |
|---|---|
| Basic local remote control | A compatible IKEA steering device or remote may be sufficient. |
| Use IKEA’s Home smart app | DIRIGERA is the relevant IKEA controller. |
| View documented INSPELNING energy-consumption data | DIRIGERA and the IKEA Home smart app are required for that setup. |
| Use Matter with another ecosystem | A compatible Matter controller or hub from that ecosystem is required. |
| Mix IKEA products with other brands | DIRIGERA can act as IKEA’s controller, but check the specific device and feature support. |
Matter improves the prospect of cross-platform compatibility, but it does not guarantee identical features in Apple Home, Google Home, Amazon Alexa, SmartThings, Home Assistant and IKEA Home smart. Check whether the chosen platform supports the particular sensor, energy data and automation you need. IKEA’s Matter announcement explains the range and controller requirement.

The bulbs, sensors, remotes, smart plugs and DIRIGERA hub are the conventional retail products. Availability, variants and pricing can differ by UK store and online listing, so use IKEA’s current UK category page rather than relying on the global announcement. IKEA’s listed delivery terms can also change at checkout.

The Energy Services products are quote-led. You begin with Aira or Soly, not an IKEA online basket:
- Request a free quote or consultation.
- Provide information about the home, existing heating, roof, electricity use and any EV or battery plans.
- Complete a survey or energy assessment.
- Review the tailored system design, installation plan, payment options, warranties and aftercare.
- Proceed with professional installation if the technical and financial proposal is suitable.
Which option makes sense for your home?
For homeowners considering a heat pump
Prioritise system sizing and building performance over the IKEA association. Ask how heat loss was calculated, whether insulation improvements are needed, whether radiators and hot-water storage are suitable, where the outdoor unit will go, and what running-cost assumptions were used. Check any current UK grants, tariffs, planning requirements or electrical rules separately and date-stamp that information before relying on it.
For solar-and-battery shoppers
Compare the complete installed proposal: panel layout, shading assumptions, annual generation, battery usable capacity, inverter warranty, export arrangements, tariff optimisation, EV charging and outage-backup capability. A guaranteed payback period should not be assumed without your own usage data and a current quote.
For renters and lower-budget households
Smart bulbs, sensors and a plug are the more practical entry point because they normally require no structural work. A plug can reveal how much a particular appliance consumes and automate its operation, but it does not guarantee lower bills. If all you need is simple local control, buying a hub may add unnecessary cost and complexity.

IKEA’s UK energy push is real, but the headline combines two very different propositions. Aira and Soly provide partner-installed infrastructure for heating, generation, storage and EV charging, accessed through a survey and quote. IKEA’s own retail range provides Matter-compatible lighting, sensors, remotes and an energy-monitoring smart plug.
The smart-home products are an accessible way to automate a room or measure an individual appliance. Heat pumps, solar panels and batteries are serious construction and electrical projects: judge them by the property assessment, system design, warranties, installation terms and total cost—not by the IKEA branding alone.
