I-25 Road Construction Update: Closures and Lane Restrictions in Colorado

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

As of Oct. 11, 2026, I-25 has several separate construction impacts in Colorado—not one blanket interstate closure. They include frontage-road restrictions near Mead, a northbound lane reduction near Monument scheduled through 5 a.m. Oct. 12, and a northbound off-ramp closure to WCR 34 scheduled for Oct. 22. Check COtrip or the project traffic page before leaving; CDOT says work is weather-dependent and schedules can change.

Closures and restrictions at a glance

Location and road Direction and impact Timing What to know
I-25 East Frontage Road south of WCR 32, near Mead One alternating lane, controlled by flaggers Monday through Thursday, 8:30 a.m.–5 p.m., for the week of Oct. 11 Expect delays and follow flagger directions.
Frontage-road access to WCR 34 Full closure of access Listed by CDOT as ongoing as of Oct. 11 Use an alternate approach suited to your destination.
Northbound I-25 off-ramp to WCR 34 Ramp closure Thursday, Oct. 22, 9 p.m.–5 a.m. CDOT’s detour uses CO 56 (Exit 250) to turn around and return south to WCR 34 (Exit 245).
Northbound I-25, mile points 159–161, near Monument Right lane and shoulder closure; two northbound lanes remain, shifted toward the median Scheduled through Monday, Oct. 12, at 5 a.m. The end is imminent; verify whether the restriction is still active. The Oct. 23–25 weekend is listed as a weather backup.

What is changing near Mead and Berthoud?

CDOT’s I-25 North Express Lanes traffic page lists the alternating-lane restriction on the east frontage road south of WCR 32 for the week of Oct. 11. The page also lists frontage-road access to WCR 34 as fully closed and says the east frontage road is closed to through traffic between WCR 32 and CO 56 in preparation for northbound widening and a frontage-road transition.

For north–south travel, CDOT names WCR 9.5, WCR 7 and Colorado Boulevard as alternate roads. Its Sept. 29 advisory for a separate Oct. 1–9 paving closure also named WCR 34, WCR 9.5, WCR 13, WCR 30 and WCR 32 for alternate access. That paving closure window has passed; the listed roads are not a guarantee of current access. Choose based on your destination and check live routing.

Local-property access varies by location, including along the frontage road around WCR 34–WCR 36 and WCR 34–WCR 32. The CDOT traffic page provides project-specific access details. The Mead-to-Berthoud project covers approximately six miles from CO 66 in Mead to the new I-25 section just south of CO 56 in Berthoud. CDOT describes bridge reconstruction and widening, with completion expected in 2028; that overall project timeline does not mean every restriction will remain in place until then. The page projected that the High Plains Boulevard connection would open in fall 2026, but does not confirm that it has opened.

Oct. 22 overnight detour to WCR 34

CDOT schedules the northbound I-25 off-ramp to WCR 34 to close from 9 p.m. Oct. 22 until 5 a.m. the following morning for barrier moves and striping. The stated detour is to continue north to CO 56, Exit 250, turn around, and travel south to WCR 34, Exit 245. Confirm the ramp status before traveling, since construction schedules may shift.

What is happening on northbound I-25 near Monument?

CDOT’s Sept. 28 advisory scheduled a right-lane and shoulder closure between mile points 159 and 161 from 9 p.m. Friday, Oct. 9, through 5 a.m. Monday, Oct. 12. Two northbound lanes were to remain open, with traffic shifted toward the median. The work replaces aging Weigh-In-Motion equipment, which weighs trucks at highway speeds and can identify overweight vehicles.

The advisory warns of backups on I-25, particularly near Exit 105 (Baptist Road). It names Oct. 23–25 as a backup work weekend if weather prevents the scheduled work. Because the planned end is only hours away as of Oct. 11, check COtrip for confirmation rather than assuming the restriction will still be active—or that it has already ended.

How to check conditions and choose a route

  1. Check COtrip or the COtrip Planner app shortly before departure for current road conditions and travel information.
  2. For Mead-area project impacts, review CDOT’s I-25 North Express Lanes traffic impacts page. For the planned frontage-road work, consult CDOT’s Sept. 29 frontage-road advisory.
  3. For the Monument lane reduction and its possible weather backup, check CDOT’s Sept. 28 advisory alongside live conditions.
  4. Match the restriction to your route: distinguish the I-25 mainline from the ramp and frontage road, and check that a listed alternate road connects to your destination. CDOT does not provide comparative travel-time estimates for these alternatives.

Work-zone safety

  • Obey posted speed limits and watch for workers.
  • Avoid unnecessary lane changes and leave ample following distance.
  • Do not use a mobile device while driving through a work zone.

CDOT lists a $75 civil penalty for speeding in the I-25 North work zone between Mead and Berthoud; the department says penalties began April 2, 2026, after a 30-day warning period. Its traffic page also reports a 92% decrease in excessive speeding since the program began, without stating a separate measurement end date. This is CDOT’s reported figure, not an independently verified causal estimate.
