There is no single stand-fitting procedure for every Sony BRAVIA television. Depending on the model, your TV may use separate left and right legs, a central pedestal, a detachable neck, or adjustable inner, outer, high, and low positions. Some models do not include a tabletop stand. Identify the complete model number and follow the Setup Guide or Startup Guide for that exact television; Sony’s model-specific instructions take priority over any general advice.
The general method is to protect the screen on a thick, soft surface, match the correct stand parts, start the specified screws by hand, tighten only the designated holes, lift the TV with enough help, and check stability before connecting power.

Before you start
- Have a second adult available. Use three or more people when Sony’s guide specifies it or when the screen is large, heavy, or difficult to control.
- Clear a broad, flat work area and cover it with the original foam, a clean blanket, or another thick, non-abrasive pad.
- Keep tools, jewelry, pets, and hard edges away from the panel. Never press on the screen or place weight on it.
- Keep the television unplugged while attaching or changing the stand.
- Separate the stand screws from other packaging hardware. Do not assume similar-looking screws are interchangeable.
- Keep the carton until the stand is assembled and the television has been inspected.
Sony warns that a detached stand can fall and cause injury or property damage, and that incorrect lifting can damage the television or the furniture. Read the supplied safety material before beginning.

“Sony BRAVIA” describes a family of televisions, not one stand design. Models may be labeled K-55XR70, K-65XR80, XR-65A80L, K-75S30, or older prefixes such as XBR-, KD-, and KDL-. The screen size alone is not enough: two 55-inch televisions can have different legs, screw holes, spacing, and height settings.

Find the full model number on the carton, rear label, receipt, or the television’s support information. Then use Sony’s model support and manuals page to download the Setup Guide, Startup Guide, and Reference Guide for your set. Do not substitute a guide for a similar-looking model.
Sony’s general guidance confirms that detailed stand directions are model-specific and are supplied through the exact model’s guide: Sony BRAVIA stand instructions.
How to assemble the stand: the general method
Use these steps only as safe principles. If the diagram, part labels, screw count, or assembly position in your guide differs, follow the guide.

1. Check every component
Depending on the model, the package can contain left and right legs, a pedestal or stand neck, brackets, screws of different lengths, covers, cable guides, anti-tip hardware, and a Setup or Startup Guide. Some BRAVIA televisions are sold without a tabletop stand, so confirm the box contents before assuming something is missing.

2. Prepare the approved assembly position
Many models are assembled with the screen face-down. Put the protective foam or a folded blanket on the floor or a wide table, and make sure the entire panel is supported without pressure points. Have one person stabilize the carton or television while another guides it down. Do not drag the panel across the padding.
A few designs may allow the legs or pedestal to be fitted while the TV is upright. Do this only when the supplied guide shows that method; do not improvise an upright assembly.
3. Match the left and right parts
Look for L and R marks, arrows, molded shapes, or the guide’s diagram. The parts may be mirror images. If a leg does not enter smoothly, stop and check the side, orientation, protective packaging, and approved stand position rather than forcing it.

Slide or fit the leg, neck, or bracket into its matching opening until it reaches the stop or alignment mark shown by Sony. The mounting surfaces should sit flush with the chassis. Never hammer, twist, or force a component into the slot.

5. Start the correct screws by hand
Insert each specified screw by hand for several turns before tightening. This helps prevent cross-threading. Use the holes and tightening order shown in the guide, and use a manual screwdriver unless Sony specifically permits another tool. Stop when the screw is firmly seated; overtightening can strip threads or crush plastic.
There is no universal BRAVIA screw count, size, or torque. Sony’s instructions describe four screws on some XR models, while other series use different hardware. One model-specific example identifies PSW M5L14 × 2 screws for certain A80K stand-height positions; that specification must not be generalized to other televisions.
6. Fit covers and route cables
Install stand covers or cable-management pieces only after the stand is secure. Make sure power, HDMI, antenna, optical, and other cables can exit freely without being pinched or sharply bent.

Lift from the lower frame or other structural areas identified by the guide, not from the screen, bezel corners, or stand legs. Keep the television vertical while moving it. Sony notes that some large or adjustable configurations require three or more people and warns that the TV should be upright before it is turned on.

8. Check the installation before powering on
- Both legs or supports are inserted to the same depth.
- Every required screw is present and seated.
- The stand is centered or positioned exactly as shown.
- The cabinet is wide and deep enough for the complete feet, with no unsafe overhang.
- The TV does not rock, lean, or show a gap between the stand and chassis.
- No cable, cover, or packaging is trapped under a mounting surface.
If the television rocks, lift it off the furniture with help and inspect the installation. Do not stabilize it with loose paper, cardboard, or improvised wedges.
Adjustable BRAVIA stand positions
Some newer BRAVIA models offer more than one approved position. A high setting can create room for a soundbar; an inner or outer setting can suit different furniture widths. Not every screen size in a series uses the same parts or supports every position.
- Height adjustment: raises the television for soundbar clearance where Sony provides that option.
- Width or position adjustment: moves feet inward or outward to match the furniture.
- Direction or mounting-position adjustment: appears on some older OLED designs.
Sony’s instructions list model-specific support blocks for certain reattachment procedures: approximately 25–35 cm wide, 25 cm high, and more than 20 cm deep for specified BRAVIA 7 XR70 work; approximately 30–40 cm wide, 15 cm high, and more than 20 cm deep for specified BRAVIA 9 XR90 work; and approximately 30–40 cm wide, 10 cm high, and more than 20 cm deep for specified BRAVIA 8 XR80 work. First assembly, reattachment, and replacement are different jobs
“Put together” can mean fitting a new stand, reinstalling one after wall mounting, changing its position, or replacing a broken leg. Reattachment can require removing covers, supporting the TV from underneath, and having several people hold the panel while the legs are refitted. For certain Sony models, screws removed during wall mounting must return to their original rear-TV holes. Do not reuse a screw in a different hole unless the model guide says to.

Anti-tip protection
Use the anti-tip hardware supplied with the television when provided, and anchor the TV or furniture to a suitable structural point. The tabletop stand alone is not a substitute for tip-over protection. Keep children from climbing on the furniture, keep heavy items low, and follow the Reference Guide and local safety requirements. Sony does not use one identical restraint kit on every BRAVIA, so use the hardware and attachment method specified for your model.
Troubleshooting a stand that will not fit

Missing or broken stand parts
Use the complete model number, screen size, country, missing-part description, and (if requested) photos of the mounting points when contacting a parts supplier. For U.S. customers, Sony directs owners to its authorized parts channel at Sony model accessories support and Encompass. Its TV-stand category is available here. Stock and compatibility change, so verify the exact model before ordering.
Do not buy another Sony model’s legs merely because the screen size matches. Compatibility depends on the chassis, mounting geometry, screw locations, and stand orientation. If the television arrived without legs, first confirm whether it was sold as wall-mount-only, open-box, refurbished, or incomplete.
When to stop and get help
- The panel or chassis is cracked, bent, or otherwise damaged.
- A mounting hole is stripped or a supplied part does not match the guide.
- The screen is too large or heavy for the available helpers.
- The television remains unstable after correct reassembly.
- You are converting from wall mounting without the original stand and screws.
A professional installer is appropriate for a difficult lift, wall-mount conversion, damaged mounting points, or any situation in which you cannot keep the panel supported.
