Start with an event-specific accessibility plan
Use the arena’s Accessibility page for standing policies, but treat the ticket-holder email as the operational source for your date. The general Know Before You Go guide says doors may open as early as 90 minutes before an event and encourages the F Street entrance near 7th Street. That guidance is not a promise that every entrance, door time or queue will be the same for your event.
Four confirmations to make before travel
- Seat and transfer plan: Confirm the accessible location, companion seats and whether you will remain in a wheelchair or transfer to an arena seat.
- Arrival route: Ask which entrance and curb point are usable for your event, and whether construction has created a temporary path.
- On-site assistance: Tell staff if you need a wheelchair escort, wheelchair storage, sensory support, listening equipment or an interpreter.
- Timing: Check the email for the actual door time, bag or security instructions and any event-specific restrictions before leaving home.

How do I get accessible seats at Capital One Arena?
The arena says accessible seating is integrated on every level rather than isolated in one area. Accessible tickets can be purchased in person, by phone or through Ticketmaster. Contact the Accessible Seating Specialists before finalizing seats so the location matches your mobility, sightline and companion needs.
Choose a location based on how you use your chair
- Wheelchair space: If you will stay in your wheelchair, request a designated wheelchair space and adjacent companion seats. Ask whether the route from the assigned entrance is step-free during the renovation phase.
- Transfer seat: If you transfer into an arena seat, ask staff where your wheelchair can be stored and how you will retrieve it after the event.
- Companion arrangement: State how many companions need to sit with you. Do not assume nearby seats can be added later, especially for high-demand games or concerts.
- Other mobility equipment: Describe the device’s size and whether you need extra turning room. The seating specialist can identify a suitable location instead of relying on a generic map.
Accessible seating is a service arrangement, not a guarantee that every route is unchanged. Ask the specialist to note any essential details on the booking and reconfirm them in the event email.
Wheelchair escorts and storage
You can request a wheelchair escort from any arena team member at an entry point or at Guest Services. Guest Services is across from Section 102 on Level 1 and across from Section 402 on Level 4. If you transfer from a wheelchair into your seat, ask Guest Services or staff near the seat to arrange storage. Keep valuables with you; storage is for the mobility device, not personal items.
What to do on arrival
- Tell the first staff member that you need an escort and identify your ticket level or section.
- If the entry queue is crowded, ask where to wait without blocking the accessible route.
- Have your companion remain with you unless staff direct otherwise; an escort helps with navigation but does not replace personal assistance.
- At the seating area, confirm where the chair will be stored and how to request it back after the event.
Because construction can reroute corridors, request the escort at the entrance rather than assuming a familiar path from a previous visit.

Sensory support: bags, room and social story
Sensory bags are available at no charge from Guest Services near Sections 102 and 402. You leave an ID while the bag is checked out. The arena says the bags include sensory-support items such as headphones. Return the bag and collect your ID before leaving.
A sensory room is available during games and events. If previewing the environment helps, use the arena’s KultureCity social story linked from the Accessibility page. Ask Guest Services for the current route to the room because renovation work may alter wayfinding.
Prepare a sensory break plan
- Identify the Guest Services desk you will use before entering: Level 1 near Section 102 or Level 4 near Section 402.
- Decide whether one companion will hold the ID for the sensory-bag checkout.
- Tell staff if you need a quieter route or additional time at security.
- Check the event email for door timing so you can arrive before peak crowd levels.
Hearing access and interpreters
The arena provides listening receivers at no charge for all events when you leave valid identification. Request one from Guest Services and return it after the event. Scoreboard captioning is provided during sporting events; for concerts and other event types, ask the office whether captioning is planned.

Service animals
Trained service dogs are welcome. The handler remains responsible for the animal’s care and supervision. Comfort animals are not allowed under the arena’s policy. If you need a special accommodation, contact the accessibility office before the event and explain the task-related support required. Ask the event representative about the practical relief area and route on your date, since the published policy does not establish one fixed location for every event.
Which entrance should I use during renovations?
For general entry, the arena encourages the F Street entrance near 7th Street. Other entrances may be limited to particular ticket holders or event types. The event email takes precedence over the general recommendation.
Is the accessible 6th Street drop-off open for my event?
The transformation FAQ describes a new 6th Street entrance with direct accessible drop-off and pickup as an enhancement. It does not confirm that the entrance is open for every event. Do not ask a driver to use 6th Street solely because it appears in a future-project description. Verify its operating status, curb location and pickup rules in your Know Before You Go email or with the accessibility office.

Door times and security
The general guide says doors may open as early as 90 minutes before event start. “As early as” means the actual opening can differ. Arriving early gives staff more time to arrange an escort, sensory bag or receiver, but follow the event email if it sets a later or different entry procedure.

What the renovation means for a 2026–27 visit
Construction began in December 2024 and is planned in six phases over three years. The venue says the arena remains open during NBA and NHL seasons, with completion scheduled for the 2027–28 NBA and NHL seasons. Published plans are not a guarantee that a particular corridor, restroom or entrance will be available on a particular night.

The transformation FAQ also lists planned improvements including upgraded ADA accommodations, improved navigation with wayfinding technology, enhanced seating, expanded accessible amenities and 30% more restrooms. Metro
The arena identifies Gallery Place/Chinatown on the Red, Green and Yellow lines as the closest Metro stop. Judiciary Square, Metro Center and Archives–Navy Memorial/Penn Quarter are also nearby, but “nearby” does not establish an accessible path for your specific mobility device. Check elevator status, street crossings, weather and construction barriers on your travel date. The venue’s Directions & Parking page provides the published station and area information.

Drop-off and pickup
Ask the accessibility office which curb is currently authorized for an accessible drop-off and where post-event pickup is permitted. During renovations, a curb that worked for a previous event may be closed or reserved. Confirm whether the planned 6th Street entrance is operating before directing a paratransit vehicle, rideshare or private driver there.

Driving and parking
Use the venue’s directions information to identify parking options, then verify clearance, elevator operation and the walking route from the garage. A parking space near the building does not guarantee a step-free path to your ticketed entrance; include the final block and security queue in your planning.
A practical timeline for your visit
Several weeks before the event
- Contact Accessible Seating Specialists if you need accessible seats, a transfer location, companion seats or an interpreter.
- Describe your mobility device, transfer method, sensory or communication needs and whether a service dog will accompany you.
- Ask whether the planned 6th Street drop-off is open for your event and request the current accessible entrance.
- Save the accessibility phone number and email in your phone.
When the event email arrives
- Read the Know Before You Go message for door time, entry point, security rules and temporary route notices.
- Compare its instructions with your ticket section and transportation plan.
- Call the accessibility office if the email conflicts with a prior arrangement or does not explain an essential accommodation.
On event day
- Bring your ticket, identification for a sensory bag or listening receiver, and any personal medication or communication aids you need.
- Arrive with enough time for the published door process rather than the advertised event start.
- At the entrance, request an escort if needed and ask staff to confirm the route to your level.
- Visit Guest Services for a sensory bag, listening receiver, wheelchair storage or route assistance.
- Before leaving, retrieve stored equipment, return borrowed items and confirm the pickup point with your driver.
Troubleshooting common problems
The entrance in my old visit is closed
Show staff your ticket and ask for the accessible entrance assigned to your event. Do not cross a construction barrier to reach a familiar door. If the alternate route appears inaccessible, call the accessibility office from a safe location and request direction.
My wheelchair will not fit where I expected
Ask Guest Services to contact seating staff. They can identify the designated wheelchair space or arrange storage if you can transfer. Do not leave the chair unattended in a corridor.
The sensory bag or receiver desk is busy
Tell the desk staff that you have an event start time and ask whether the other Guest Services location is open. The two published locations are near Sections 102 and 402; staff can direct you to the shorter route under current conditions.
My interpreter request was made less than 21 days before the event
Contact the accessibility office immediately. The published lead time is at least 21 days, so late requests may depend on availability; do not assume an interpreter is scheduled until the office confirms it.
