In current Revit and Revit LT releases, open the Project Browser by selecting View → Windows → User Interface → Project Browser. You can also right-click in a general area of the Revit window, choose Browsers, and select Project Browser.
What the Project Browser does
The Project Browser is Revit’s navigation panel—a structured table of contents for the active project or family file. It provides access to project content such as views, legends, schedules, sheets, families, groups, and Revit links. Depending on the document, project contents, and Revit release, additional categories such as assemblies, panel schedules, or reports may appear.

The browser is commonly docked on the left side of the Revit window, but it can be moved, resized, grouped, or left floating. Autodesk describes its role and available categories in the Revit 2026 Project Browser documentation.
Open the Project Browser from the ribbon
- Open the relevant Revit project or family.
- Click the View tab.
- Find the Windows panel.
- Click User Interface.
- Select Project Browser.
View → Windows → User Interface → Project Browser is the current documented path for Revit and Revit LT. The command is a visibility toggle: selecting it displays the browser when it is hidden, and selecting it again hides the browser when it is already visible.
#1 Best Overall
Open it with the right-click menu
Right-click in a general area of the Revit application window, then choose Browsers → Project Browser.
This method is useful when the ribbon is minimized, customized, or difficult to locate. Right-click in the application workspace rather than on a particular view item or model element.
Use the Project Browser to open views and sheets
After the browser is visible:
- Expand Views.
- Expand the relevant discipline or view category.
- Locate the view you want to open.
- Double-click its name.
You can also right-click a browser item and select Open. A fast double-click opens the item; clicking too slowly may put the item into rename mode instead.

The same general approach works for sheets, schedules, legends, families, and other entries that can be opened in the active document. In current Revit documentation, the browser includes tabs such as All, Views, Legends, Schedules, Sheets, Families, Groups, and Links. The exact tabs depend on the document and release.
Search a large Project Browser
Current Revit releases provide a search box at the top of the Project Browser. Type an item name to highlight matching results across the browser tabs. Press Enter to open the selected view when applicable.
Older Revit releases may instead provide a separate search dialog accessed by right-clicking in the browser and selecting Search. Search behavior is therefore not identical across every historical version.

Find a selected item in the browser
When the Project Browser is already displayed, select a supported item in the model, right-click it, and choose Find in Project Browser. If nothing is selected, Revit can use the command to locate the active view or sheet where applicable.
Make the browser easier to see
If the browser opens but is awkwardly positioned, use these layout controls:
- Move it: Drag the browser by its title bar.
- Resize it: Drag one of its edges.
- Dock it: Drag it toward the left edge of the Revit interface until the docking indicator appears, then release.
- Dock or undock quickly: Double-click the title bar.
- Group it with Properties: Dock the Project Browser and Properties palette together so they appear as tabs in the same window group.
Revit normally saves the location and size of dockable windows and restores them when the program is restarted. For more detail, see Autodesk’s guide to dockable windows in Revit.

Project Browser versus Properties palette
These two panels are often docked together, so they are easy to confuse:
- The Project Browser navigates project content and opens views, sheets, schedules, and other items.
- The Properties palette displays and edits properties for the active view, selected element, or active tool.
If you can see Properties but not the Project Browser, select View → User Interface → Project Browser, then check whether the browser is hidden behind the Properties tab.

If the Project Browser is missing or not visible
Work through these checks in order:
- Use View → Windows → User Interface → Project Browser to toggle it off and on.
- Look for another tab behind the Properties palette or a different docked window.
- Check whether the browser is floating outside the main Revit window, especially after changing monitors or display scaling.
- Look for a very narrow docked panel and drag its edge wider.
- Restart Revit.
- If it remains missing, blank, locked, or unresponsive, follow Autodesk’s support guidance for an unresponsive Properties palette or Project Browser, including resetting the browser’s default location.
- If the problem continues after the layout reset, temporarily disable Revit add-ins to check whether an add-in is interfering with the interface.
Resetting the layout is an Autodesk-recommended remedy for certain blank or unresponsive-window cases, not a guaranteed fix for every Project Browser problem.

A missing view has not necessarily been deleted. Browser Organization can filter or regroup views, including hiding views after they are placed on sheets.
To restore the standard view organization:
- Right-click Views in the Project Browser.
- Select Browser Organization.
- On the Views tab, select All.
- Click OK.
If your project uses a custom organization scheme, inspect its Filtering tab and remove the rule that excludes the view—for example, a rule based on whether the view has been placed on a sheet. Autodesk documents this specific missing-view issue in its Project Browser filtering support article.
Also check whether you are looking in the correct browser tab or branch. A family file may not contain project categories such as sheets and schedules, and content belonging to a linked model will not appear as though it belongs to the current model.
