Start with the official Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) website. Open its Traffic Corner, road-safety information and press releases, then check Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) notices for route-specific or event-specific orders. Read every notice’s date, named roads, time window and event context before treating it as relevant. The available official material does not establish a dependable live closure map, so confirm conditions with current road signs, police directions and traffic signals when you leave.
The most reliable pre-drive check
For a trip in Dhaka, use a two-stage check rather than relying on one traffic app or an undated social-media post:
As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.
- Check DMP first. On the Dhaka Metropolitan Police website, open the Traffic Corner, road-safety material and press-release sections. The DMP homepage identifies these traffic-related areas and also links daily case reports. These are the police department’s official public information channels.
- Check government notices for your particular journey. Search DMP pages and relevant government notice pages for the destination, road name, date, procession, construction activity, holiday or security event. BRTA’s notices page, for example, lists a May 23, 2026 order about congestion at important road points during Eid travel.
- Validate the notice. Match the publication date, roads, direction of travel, hours and event named in the notice with your planned trip. A notice that concerns a past festival or a different corridor is background information, not proof that your road is closed today.
- Use live, on-road instructions as the final authority. Follow temporary signs, police instructions, lane controls and traffic signals. DMP’s road-safety guidance also advises obeying traffic rules and speed limits, avoiding frequent lane changes and not using a phone while crossing.
This process tells you what official agencies have announced and helps you spot dated restrictions. It does not guarantee a live, route-by-route picture of congestion, diversions or an unexpected incident.

Step-by-step: check a Dhaka route before you leave
1. Define the trip precisely
Write down the starting area, destination, likely roads, departure date and approximate departure time. Include a return trip if you will travel back later. A notice may affect one approach to a destination but not another, or may apply only during a stated window. “Driving in Dhaka” is too broad a search to test whether a particular road is affected.
List alternate corridors you could realistically use. Do not assume that a road shown in a notice is the only route to your destination; the restriction may redirect traffic onto roads that then become slow or controlled.
2. Open the DMP website and identify the relevant section
Use the DMP homepage as the starting point. Open the Traffic Corner for traffic-related material, read the road-safety information, and scan press releases for announcements tied to public events, security arrangements, road operations or diversions. The homepage also presents daily case-report links; those reports should not be treated as a live congestion dashboard simply because they appear in a traffic-related part of the site.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Look for a page title, posting date and the body of the announcement. Save or note the exact wording of any road name, intersection, direction, restriction and time period that matches your trip.
3. Search by road, destination, date and event
Use the site’s own search facility when available, and search government notice pages separately. Combine terms rather than searching only for “Dhaka traffic.” Useful combinations include the road or intersection, your destination, the travel date, and an event such as Eid, a procession, a public gathering, construction or a security operation.

- Both tools are designed to fit into difficult to reach spaces

- One-Handed Loading - Keep one hand free with a 1/4 in. hex chuck that accepts 1 in. bit tips
Search both Bengali and English spellings when a road or place is commonly written in more than one form. Check nearby intersections and alternate names, but do not infer that two similarly named roads are the same location. Open the full notice instead of relying on a search-result headline.
4. Read the operative details
For each possible match, record five details:
- Publication or order date: when the agency issued or posted it.
- Effective date: the day or days on which the measure applies, if stated.
- Time window: start and end times, including whether the order covers a recurring period.
- Location: every named road, junction, approach, lane or important road point.
- Reason and measure: the event or condition and whether the instruction concerns closure, one-way movement, parking, diversion, congestion control or general advice.
A notice can be authoritative yet irrelevant to your departure if any of these details do not match.

Mark the part of your route that overlaps the named area and the time that overlaps the effective window. If there is no overlap, keep the notice as context but do not describe your route as closed. If the overlap is unclear, plan an alternate route and allow time to stop safely and re-check official information rather than making a last-second lane change.
6. Recheck shortly before departure
Traffic conditions can change after a notice is issued. Reopen the official pages shortly before leaving, especially for a major event or holiday travel day. Look for a newer press release, correction or order that changes the route, hours or diversion. The available material does not establish how frequently DMP pages are updated, so the absence of a new post is not proof that the road is clear.
7. Make the final decision at the roadside
Once driving, obey a police officer’s direction even if it conflicts with an older webpage. Follow temporary barriers, cones, electronic signs and lane arrows, and use traffic signals. Do not stop in a live lane to read a phone. If you must consult information, pull over legally or have a passenger read it.

How to tell whether an old notice still matters
Event notices are valuable because they explain why a route may be controlled, but they are easy to misread as permanent or current instructions. Use this test before relying on one:
Check the event date
Ask what event caused the measure and whether that event is happening during your trip. The BRTA notices page includes an Eid-travel traffic order dated May 23, 2026. That dated order demonstrates the kind of congestion-management notice a government agency may publish; it is not a current instruction for every later journey.
Check the named roads and points
An order concerning “important road points” may cover specified intersections or approaches rather than every road in Dhaka. Read the full list. Do not expand a named location into a citywide closure.
Check the hours and direction
Temporary controls can apply only during a procession, convoy, peak arrival period or departure window. A road could be controlled in one direction while another movement remains permitted. If the notice does not state a time or direction, avoid inventing one; seek a newer official clarification.
Check for superseding information
Look for a later DMP press release or BRTA order that modifies, extends or cancels the original measure. A newer notice may use different road names or a different schedule. Keep the latest applicable instruction with your travel notes.

Separate safety advice from an operational order
DMP’s “Road Safety Situation In Dhaka” page is dated July 1, 2026. Its date is visible, but the available evidence does not show it to be a live closure list. Likewise, a road-safety slogan or general driving tip does not itself close a road. Treat an operational order as such only when it specifies the measure and its scope.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Do not confuse an official website with a live traffic map
The DMP website is the primary official starting point identified for this question, but the reviewed pages do not establish a dependable real-time closure feed. They also do not verify that any particular navigation application accurately reports Dhaka closures or diversions. A colored line, travel-time estimate or “road closed” label in an app may be useful as a clue, but it is supplementary unless you can confirm it through a current official announcement or what you see on the road.
Use apps, radio, messages from colleagues or other informal reports to generate questions, not to override a police direction. If an app conflicts with a DMP or BRTA order, first check whether the order is still within its effective date and route. If the order is current, follow the official measure. If both are unclear, choose a safe alternate route and expect on-road controls.
What to do when no closure is posted
No matching notice means that you did not find a published measure for the road, date and event you searched. It does not promise free-flowing traffic or rule out an incident that has just occurred. Use the following decision path:
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches- No notice and no visible control: proceed cautiously, obey signals and keep checking signs at major junctions.
- No notice but visible police control or barriers: follow the live direction; officers and temporary signs govern the movement at that location.
- Old notice that appears to match: verify its date, hours and event before changing your plan. Do not treat the old notice as a current closure by default.
- Conflicting reports: stop in a safe place, recheck the full official notice and select an alternate corridor if the conflict cannot be resolved without risk.
Build extra time into trips near large events, holiday travel periods and known bottlenecks, but do not assign a precise delay or travel-time saving unless an official source provides one. No such route-planning statistic is established in the available material.

Safe driving while a diversion is in effect
DMP’s road-safety guidance is especially relevant when traffic is being redirected:
- Obey traffic laws, signals, speed limits and police instructions.
- Avoid frequent lane changes, which can create conflicts in dense or diverted traffic.
- Do not use a phone while crossing or while you are responsible for moving through a junction. Pull over safely before reading a notice or changing the route.
- Expect temporary signs, cones, barriers and one-way controls to take priority over an older route plan.
- Leave space for pedestrians, emergency vehicles and buses when traffic is compressed around a control point.
DMP presents the Bengali road-safety slogan “ট্রাফিক আইন মানি এবং যানজটমুক্ত ঢাকা গড়ি,” glossed as “Let us obey traffic laws and build a congestion-free Dhaka.” It is a road-safety message, not a guarantee that a particular journey will be congestion-free.
A practical pre-departure checklist
- Starting point, destination and likely roads written down.
- Departure and return dates and approximate times identified.
- DMP Traffic Corner checked.
- DMP road-safety information and relevant press releases reviewed.
- BRTA notices searched for the road, destination, date and event.
- Every candidate notice checked for publication date, effective date, roads, directions, hours and reason.
- Old festival, procession, construction and security notices separated from current instructions.
- Any navigation-app information treated as supplementary rather than verified official status.
- An alternate corridor selected without making unsafe last-second lane changes.
- Phone use arranged before moving or delegated to a passenger.
- Final decision based on current signs, signals and police directions at the road.
How to keep the check current
Official pages establish where to look, not how often every item is refreshed. Before a time-sensitive trip, check the DMP site and any relevant BRTA notice again near departure, record the date of the information you relied on, and discard it when its event or time window has passed. For a specific road, current official confirmation and live roadside instructions are more meaningful than a general page carrying an older date.
Recommended Free Tools
If you routinely drive the same corridor, keep a personal list of the DMP Traffic Corner, DMP press-release area and BRTA notices page, but open the pages each time rather than assuming yesterday’s result still applies. This approach avoids the two most common errors: mistaking a dated event advisory for a permanent closure and mistaking an official information page for a real-time traffic map.
