There is no universal construction-accreditation badge. The correct check depends on the country, the type of credential, the training scheme and what you need it for. A provider may be registered while a particular course is outside its approved scope; a course may be recognised while a particular certificate is not genuine or is not accepted for your job, licence or site card.
Verify three separate things: the provider’s current status, the exact course or qualification’s approval, and the learner’s certificate or achievement record. Use the regulator’s or scheme owner’s own register, not only a logo, website claim, marketplace listing or screenshot.

What “accredited” should mean in construction training
Training providers use accredited, approved, recognised, endorsed, assured and licensed in different ways. Some labels describe a regulator’s formal registration. Others describe a private scheme, an awarding organisation’s approval, a course mapped to a standard, or permission to deliver a named programme. Treat the label as a clue, not proof.

- Course-level approval: whether the named course, unit, qualification or training scheme appears within that provider’s authorised scope.
- Certificate-level verification: whether a named learner actually achieved the stated outcome and whether the record can be checked independently.
- Practical acceptance: whether an employer, principal contractor, regulator, licensing body, funding agency or card scheme accepts that outcome.
These are separate checks. Passing one does not automatically pass the others.
Collect the provider’s exact details before searching
Ask for the information in writing. A reputable provider should be able to identify the legal entity and the credential it issues without asking you to rely on a badge.
- Legal and trading names: request the registered legal name, every trading name used for enrolment, and any parent organisation named on the certificate.
- Registration identifiers: obtain the regulator, scheme or awarding-body registration number, approval number and expiry or renewal date if one is stated.
- Course identity: record the exact course title, qualification or unit title, level, course code, version and whether it is a full qualification, a single unit, a short course or an assessment-only route.
- Delivery details: note the physical site, online platform, mobile or client site, country, delivery mode, assessment location and any subcontractor involved.
- Learner outcome: ask what the learner receives: a regulated qualification, a statement of attainment, a certificate of attendance, a competency card, continuing-development hours or another document.
- Awarding organisation: identify who awards or issues the credential, not merely who teaches the class.
Search the legal name, trading name and identifiers separately. A provider may be listed under a company name that differs from the name on its advertising. If one search fails, try plausible punctuation, abbreviations and former names, then ask the authority whether an alternative entry exists. Not finding an advertised name is a reason to investigate, not conclusive evidence of fraud.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsThe five-check verification sequence
1. Find the authoritative register or scheme directory
Use the register maintained by the relevant regulator, government department, awarding organisation or scheme owner. A provider’s own page, a downloadable logo, a social-media profile, a booking marketplace and a screenshot can all be copied or left out of date.
First decide which authority should have a record. Vocational training, higher education, regulated qualifications, site-safety schemes and competency certificates can use different systems even in the same country. If the provider names an approval body, search that body’s own directory and read what the directory is designed to show.
2. Confirm current provider status and dates
Check whether the entry is current on the date you plan to enrol. Record the status, registration period, renewal or expiry date, regulatory restrictions, conditions and any enforcement or regulatory action shown. A historical entry, suspended status or expired approval should not be treated as current authorisation.

Save a dated PDF, printout or screenshot of the official result, including the search term and the page showing the status. Registers change; a dated record helps an employer or authority understand what you verified before payment.
3. Match the exact scope, not just the provider name
Open the provider’s scope or approval details. Confirm the exact course or product, qualification code, unit, level, delivery location, mode and assessment arrangement. Some approvals cover only a named campus, a particular delivery method or a limited list of units.
Provider registration alone does not prove that every course is recognised. If the provider is listed but the course, site or delivery arrangement is absent, ask the authority and the provider for a written explanation before enrolling.
4. Check the qualification or course with the awarding body
Search the qualification or course itself in the relevant qualification register or awarding organisation’s directory. Confirm the title, code, level, awarding organisation and whether the qualification is current, being taught out, replaced or withdrawn. For a short course, establish whether it leads to a regulated outcome or only records attendance.
Then test the outcome against your real requirement. An employer may require a particular unit; a licence may require a regulated qualification at a specified level; a site-card route may require a recognised health-and-safety course plus an examination. “Recognised” in general conversation does not establish acceptance for your particular job.

Compare the verified record with the certificate: learner name, course title, code, completion date, provider, result, expiry date and any restrictions. If a QR code resolves only to the provider’s own page, seek an independent verification route. Do not pay extra for a replacement certificate or accept an image as proof until the issuing body confirms the record.
How to judge whether a course is recognised for your purpose
Write down the requirement before comparing providers. Include the job title, project or client, site-card pathway, regulator, licence class, funding rule, minimum level, expiry period and any prerequisite. Ask the employer or scheme owner for the exact course name and code rather than relying on a provider’s description.
| Question | Evidence to obtain | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Who authorises the provider? | Current register entry, registration number and dates | Shows that the organisation has present authority, subject to its stated conditions. |
| What is authorised? | Scope listing the exact course, unit, qualification, site and delivery mode | Prevents a provider-level approval being mistaken for approval of every class. |
| Who awards the outcome? | Awarding-body name, qualification code and status | Separates a regulated or externally awarded result from attendance-only training. |
| Can the learner record be checked? | Serial-number, portal or direct-confirmation procedure | Helps detect altered certificates and confirms the named learner’s achievement. |
| Will it be accepted? | Written requirement from the employer, regulator, licence or card scheme | Registration does not guarantee acceptance for a particular workplace or licence. |
Keep copies of the provider’s answers and the official records. If two authorities appear relevant, check both. For example, a provider may need one registration for its training activity and a separate listing for the qualification it delivers.

Australia: use the route that matches the credential
Vocational education and training (VET)
For Australian VET, the national training register, training.gov.au, records Registered Training Organisation (RTO) registration status, each RTO’s scope of registration and nationally recognised training products. Search the provider and the course or product separately.
Confirm that the RTO is currently registered and that the exact training product appears in its scope. Check the delivery location and any restrictions shown. The register is administered by the Australian Government Department of Education on behalf of state and territory governments; the Australian Skills Quality Authority (ASQA) states that ASQA does not manage the register. Do not treat an ASQA reference or an RTO logo as a substitute for checking the entry and scope.
Higher education
For higher-education courses, use the Tertiary Education Quality and Standards Agency (TEQSA) National Register. It lists registered higher-education providers and courses accredited by TEQSA where the provider does not have self-accrediting authority. Universities and University Colleges commonly accredit their own courses, so those courses may not appear as separate entries.

Read the provider category, registration period, self-accrediting authority, re-accreditation dates and any regulatory action. TEQSA says provider registration cannot exceed seven years, so use the current dates in the register rather than assuming approval is permanent. If the course is marketed to international students, verify that the provider is also on the Commonwealth Register of Institutions and Courses for Overseas Students (CRICOS).

TEQSA’s student guidance states: “It is quick, free and easy to check a provider’s registration by searching the National Register on this website.” That check addresses higher education; it is not a replacement for the VET route.

Course directory versus learner achievement register
CITB’s Construction Training Directory is a course-search tool with an Approved Training Organisation selector. It can help you identify courses and providers, but a course listing is not an individual learner’s proof of achievement.
CITB’s Construction Training Register is different. It stores individual learner achievements and qualifications and requires access. A learner or employer may need portal access to check a person’s record. Do not treat a directory listing as a certificate verification, and do not treat a learner record as general statutory accreditation of every course a provider offers.
Interpret the Training Provider Network category
The current Training Provider Network terminology uses four categories:
- Endorsed: training that is not standardised or accredited by CITB or a third party.
- Recognised: third-party-approved training. Examples include CPCS or NPORS plant training and qualifications associated with Ofqual, SQA or Qualifications Wales routes.
- Assured: training mapped against relevant CITB short-duration standards.
- Licensed: CITB Site Safety Plus courses or CITB Health, Safety and Environment test centres.
These categories are not interchangeable. Check the category attached to the exact course and ask what outcome it produces. A provider can appear in the network while a particular class has a different category, scope or prerequisite from the one you need.

England and Northern Ireland: verify regulated qualifications
Use the Register of Regulated Qualifications to check whether a qualification is regulated and to view its title, level, awarding organisation and other details. Its stated coverage includes GCSE, A level, AS level and vocational qualifications in England and Northern Ireland. The government guidance also points to a search for regulated awarding organisations.
Search the qualification code and awarding body, not only the training provider’s name. Then confirm that the provider is authorised to deliver that qualification and that the certificate will be issued by the listed awarding organisation. Wales and Scotland use their own qualification routes, linked from the relevant government guidance, so an England and Northern Ireland register result should not be assumed to apply there.
South Africa: construction competency certificates
For construction competency claims in South Africa, SAQCC describes an accredited training provider as holding QCTO and relevant SETA accreditation for the unit standards or skills programmes it intends to deliver and being registered with SAQCC against those accreditations.

Red flags, explanations and safe responses
- Only a logo or badge is supplied: ask for the authority, registration number and a searchable directory entry.
- The provider refuses to name the awarding body: pause payment; you cannot independently verify an unnamed issuer.
- The course title is vague: request the exact code, level, unit and learner outcome.
- The register lists the provider but not the course: ask whether the course is outside scope, delivered by a subcontractor or covered by another approval route.
- The approval is expired, suspended or subject to restrictions: ask the authority whether existing learners are protected and whether new enrolments are permitted.
- A certificate has a serial number but no verification route: contact the issuing body directly and keep the response.
- The provider says an employer “accepts it” without evidence: obtain the employer, principal contractor or card scheme’s written requirement yourself.
- The provider is missing under its trading name: search the legal entity and former names, then ask the authority about alternate entries.
Do not send identity documents or full payment while a material mismatch remains unresolved. If you have already enrolled, preserve invoices, adverts, emails, attendance records and certificates; then contact the regulator, awarding body or scheme owner using contact details from its official site.
A decision checklist before you enrol or accept a credential
- Identify the country, regulator and credential type.
- Record the provider’s legal name, trading names and registration number.
- Capture the exact course or qualification title, code, level, site and delivery mode.
- Confirm current provider status and dates in the authoritative register.
- Confirm the course or qualification is inside the provider’s authorised scope.
- Check the awarding organisation and the qualification’s current status.
- Ask how to verify a learner’s certificate or achievement record independently.
- Obtain written confirmation that the result meets the employer, licence, funding or site-card requirement.
- Save dated copies of every register result and written answer before paying.
If any step cannot be completed, describe the outcome accurately: “provider registration confirmed, course scope not confirmed,” or “certificate serial pending issuer verification.” That is more useful than calling a course accredited on the basis of one badge.
