Gweike G2 Review: What It Can Engrave, Setup, Safety and Price

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The Gweike G2 is a compact fiber laser marker for small metal parts and other tested materials—not an all-purpose cutter. Its desktop footprint, positioning features and mobile or computer workflows can make personalization work more approachable, but “effortless” has limits: you still need to focus the machine, test settings, manage fumes and verify software compatibility. It suits makers and small businesses whose routine work fits a 110 × 110 mm or 150 × 150 mm field; it is a poor match for large signs or general wood, fabric and clear-acrylic cutting.

What the Gweike G2 is designed to do

The G2 is an air-cooled ytterbium fiber laser marking machine, not a diode or CO₂ laser. Gweike lists the 20W model at 1064 nm and describes galvanometer scanning. Fiber lasers are primarily useful for marking and engraving metals; they are not automatically the right tool for broad nonmetal cutting jobs. Gweike’s current US product listing gives a maximum marking-speed claim of 15,000 mm/s, repeat accuracy of ±0.001 mm and minimum character size of 0.1 mm. These are manufacturer specifications, not independent production benchmarks, and the maximum speed is not a promise for every material or design.

“Marking,” “engraving” and “cutting” describe different outcomes. A surface mark changes appearance; engraving removes material to create depth; cutting separates material. The G2 is principally a marker and engraver. Gweike’s examples of cutting or deep engraving should not be read as evidence that a compact G2 is an efficient replacement for a dedicated metal-cutting system.

What materials and projects are a fit?

Gweike lists metals, alloys, coated metals and selected plastics, and its EU listing also names artificial leather, lacquered paper, lacquered wood and some stones. Those are categories to test, not guarantees for every formulation, finish or color. Fiber-laser response varies with a material’s composition, coating, reflectivity and additives.

  • Coated products: Painted, plated or otherwise coated items may be marked by changing or removing a surface layer. Test the actual coating and substrate before production.
  • Small personalized goods: Dog tags, coins, jewelry, tools, keychains, small plates and branded merchandise suit the machine’s compact field when each item fits and can be held securely.
  • Plastics and specialty materials: Test samples first and confirm the material is appropriate to process. Do not assume every plastic is compatible or safe to laser.

Gweike’s stated comparisons for the G2 series show different pass counts and engraving depths across 20W, 30W and 50W models. These are vendor demonstrations under stated conditions, not guaranteed outcomes on a buyer’s material. See Gweike’s comparison material.

Choose the power level for the work, not the headline speed

The G2 family includes the 20W base model, 30W G2 Pro and 50W G2 Max. Higher power can make deeper or more frequent work more practical, but results depend on the material, lens, focus, speed, frequency, hatch spacing and number of passes.

Model Best fit Price signal observed Aug. 18, 2026 Trade-off
G2 20W Occasional or entry-level metal marking: names, logos, serial numbers, jewelry and tags From $1,099 sale price Lowest listed entry price; less power for deep or high-volume work
G2 Pro 30W More frequent production, deeper marks or a need to reduce passes From $1,599 sale price Costs more than the 20W model
G2 Max 50W Deeper engraving or heavier production where fewer passes matter $2,499 sale price Highest G2-series price in the observed listings; still a compact field

These prices are vendor price snapshots, not guaranteed current offers. Gweike’s machine collection showed sale and sold-out indicators when checked on Aug. 18, 2026; confirm configuration, stock, taxes and final price at checkout. Check the Gweike machine collection.

In one comparison, Gweike reports 11 passes for the 20W, seven for the 30W and four for the 50W in its brass-cutting example; a separate deep-engraving example lists 2.1 mm, 3.7 mm and 4.5 mm respectively. Treat these as Gweike’s specified demonstrations, not a prediction for your parts or a general-purpose cutting specification.

Field size and lift: match the machine to the workpiece

The 20W G2 is offered with a 110 × 110 mm field and manual lift, or a 150 × 150 mm field and electric lift. The larger field accommodates larger plaques or batches and can reduce repositioning. The smaller field may be preferable for compact, fine-detail work: a larger marking field spreads the available optical resolution and energy over a wider area. Choose by measuring the largest routine job and considering the detail you need, rather than assuming the larger lens is always better.

Gweike also promotes detachable or handheld use and cylindrical engraving with rotary options. Cylindrical work requires suitable rotary hardware and correct software setup; the base unit alone does not make every curved item a one-click job. Chuck, roller and ring rotary accessories are listed separately in Gweike’s store collection.

What using the G2 involves

The workflow is manageable, but not calibration-free. Plan for setup, a test mark and controlled operation before putting a customer’s item under the laser.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  1. Prepare the workspace: Put the machine on a stable, nonflammable surface. Arrange suitable fume control and restrict access to the operating area.
  2. Assemble and connect: Secure the laser head and lift or shield components as instructed. The manual’s installation guidance specifies a 24V, 11A adapter; use the supply and instructions provided for your exact unit.
  3. Choose software and connection: Install the appropriate Gweike software or app, and verify that your device, model and controller are supported before relying on a third-party workflow.
  4. Import and check the design: The manual lists PLT, SVG, DXF, AI, BMP, JPG/JPEG and PNG file formats, with USB and Wi-Fi transfer and Android, iOS, Windows and Mac support. Confirm the artwork’s units, dimensions, origin and supported features in the software.
  5. Position and focus: Secure the workpiece, use the red-light positioning system to check placement, and set the marking height and focus for the selected lens.
  6. Test before production: Use scrap or an inconspicuous area. Vary speed, power, frequency, hatch spacing, passes and focus in a small test matrix; note whether the sample is bare, anodized, painted, plated or coated.
  7. Run and inspect: Operate under the manufacturer’s safety instructions and check the result before repeating a batch.
  8. Clean and store: Inspect the lens, clean it as instructed and cover it when the machine is not in use.

The listed specifications are not fully consistent across Gweike’s current product page and its manual. The product page lists 6.5 kg, 15–35°C operating temperature and 20–200 kHz pulse frequency; the manual lists 12 kg, 0–65°C and 30–60 kHz. The product page lists USB, while the manual also describes Wi-Fi transmission. Use the documentation supplied with the exact unit as the controlling reference and ask Gweike to clarify before purchase if one of these limits affects your setup. Read the G2 manual.

Software compatibility needs a check before you buy

Gweike’s current US product page advertises Glaser, LightBurn, iOS and Android apps, and Mac and Windows software support. But an older EU product page says the G2 “currently” does not work with LightBurn. That conflict means LightBurn support should not be treated as universal: confirm the exact variant, region, controller, firmware and current software release with Gweike. Do not assume instructions for the 20W G2 apply unchanged to the Pro or Max. Current US listing · EU product listing.

Safety, fumes and maintenance are part of the setup

This is a laser machine, not a casual craft printer. Use the supplied shield or a suitable enclosure according to the manufacturer’s instructions, follow the required eyewear guidance, and keep children, pets, visitors and reflective objects out of the operating area. Never bypass interlocks or protective equipment. Secure the workpiece and head, keep the optical path clean, and have a fire-safety plan suited to the material.

Laser processing can generate hazardous fumes and particulates. Do not process unknown plastics, PVC, vinyl or treated materials without confirming composition and safe handling; use suitable ventilation or filtration. Manufacturer-listed CE or FDA references are not, by themselves, proof that every installation or workplace setup is safe in every jurisdiction.

Who should buy it—and who should look elsewhere?

The G2 makes sense when

  • Your work is primarily small metal or metal-like products and fits the selected marking field.
  • You value a compact machine and are prepared to learn settings through sample tests.
  • You have a controlled, ventilated workspace and can follow laser-safety procedures.
  • You want rotary or handheld flexibility and have budgeted for the needed hardware and setup.

Choose another machine or pause if

  • Your main jobs are broad wood, clear acrylic, fabric or large-format signage; a CO₂ or diode system may be a better category fit.
  • You need large workpieces, high throughput or a larger production field.
  • You expect reliable results on unknown plastics without material checks.
  • You cannot provide appropriate protective equipment and fume control.
  • Guaranteed LightBurn support, local service or rapid replacement parts are essential and remain unconfirmed.

For a larger or more production-oriented fiber format, Gweike lists the G6 Split from $2,399 in its machine collection; it is less suited to buyers prioritizing the G2’s compact footprint. The same collection lists a G6 MOPA from $4,199, a more specialized and costly option for buyers who need greater control over color marking or fine surface effects. These are price signals observed Aug. 18, 2026, not guaranteed current prices. View Gweike’s machine collection.

Common problems and practical checks

A mark is too light

Check focus, coating, speed, power, frequency, hatch spacing, pass count and lens cleanliness. Confirm that the material profile suits the actual finish before concluding that the machine is faulty.

A mark is burnt, melted or distorted

Excessive power, low speed, incorrect focus, too many passes or an unsuitable plastic can damage a workpiece. Stop and test a lower-energy setting on scrap; do not continue on a saleable item.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Rotary engraving is distorted

Verify the rotary type, entered object diameter, grip, centering and cylindrical-axis settings. Make sure the selected rotary mode matches the hardware.

The machine or software seems unsuitable for the workspace

The product page and manual disagree on operating temperature. Check the exact unit’s supplied documentation before using it in a hot garage, direct sun or dusty area. If an overheating or connection issue occurs, stop the job and record the model, firmware, software version and connection type before seeking support.

Price, availability and purchase checks

Sale pricing makes the 20W an appealing entry point only if its smaller work area and lower power suit the job. The 30W or 50W may be worth the higher cost when pass count, depth or production volume is the bottleneck; neither solves the compact-field limitation. Gweike’s G2-series page has advertised shipping to the US, Canada, EU, UK and Australia with an estimated 3–30 days after payment confirmation, but shipping times and availability are vendor claims that can change. The G2 pages also showed sale or sold-out indicators in the observed listings. Confirm stock, included lens and lift configuration, accessory costs, shipping destination and final checkout price before ordering. Gweike G2 series information.
