In the original 2025 demonstration, Figure’s Helix model helped two robots recognize a bag of cookies, hand it between them, and place it in a drawer without an operator programming each movement.
Since then, Figure has shown newer Figure 03 hardware, conversational navigation, Helix 02 whole-body control, a dishwasher sequence, living-room tidying, and two-robot bedroom cleanup. These are significant company-produced demonstrations and part of a growing commercial robotics program, but they do not establish a retail price, broad home availability, independent reliability testing, or safe unsupervised use in arbitrary houses.

What Figure’s robot actually demonstrated
Figure’s humanoid robot did not simply respond to a voice command like a smart speaker. In the original demonstration, a person gave the robot an ordinary-language instruction, and Figure’s Helix model used the robot’s cameras and learned motor-control system to decide what it saw, how to grasp the object, and how to carry out the task.

That was a capability demonstration, not the launch of a household appliance. As of August 12, 2026, Figure’s public material supports a picture of increasingly capable prototypes, research fleets, and commercial deployments—not a generally available consumer robot that homeowners can order for unsupervised housekeeping.
How Helix turns a voice instruction into movement
Figure describes Helix as a vision-language-action, or VLA, system. A VLA model links three jobs that are normally handled separately:
| Part of the task | What the robot must do |
|---|---|
| Language | Interpret an instruction such as moving an item to a drawer or walking to a kitchen table. |
| Vision | Identify objects, surfaces, openings, obstacles, and the current state of the room. |
| Action | Generate the coordinated arm, hand, torso, leg, and balance movements needed to complete the instruction. |
In a conventional industrial robot installation, engineers often define a tightly controlled workspace and program a specific sequence. Helix is intended to generalize beyond one fixed object or one precisely repeatable position. Figure said its original system could perform picking and placing, operate drawers and refrigerators, and coordinate handoffs between robots involving thousands of unfamiliar small household objects without task-specific fine-tuning.
“Generalist” needs to be read carefully here. It means the learned system can apply patterns across demonstrated scenarios and object variations. It does not mean the robot understands a home as a person does, can perform any chore, or will reliably recover from every unexpected situation.
From the 2025 cookie demo to Helix 02
The technology has moved beyond the original upper-body demonstration. Figure’s public updates show several distinct stages of development.
February 2025: upper-body manipulation with Figure 02
The February 2025 Helix announcement centered on continuous upper-body control, natural-language task specification, unfamiliar-object handling, and collaboration between two robots. The cookie handoff was useful because it combined perception, grasping, object transfer, and coordination rather than showing a single isolated pick-and-place action.
The robots still operated in a prepared demonstration environment. The video did not establish that a Figure robot could enter an arbitrary house, understand every object, or safely perform a long list of chores without supervision.

This is an important step because a useful home robot must do more than manipulate an object at a workbench. It must locate destinations, move through changing spaces, and combine navigation with later actions. However, the announcement did not mean that ordinary Brookfield residents could order or operate a Figure robot in their homes. Brookfield’s relationship with Figure was described as a source of diverse residential and commercial environments for data collection and development.
October 2025: Figure 03 is designed for domestic spaces
Figure introduced Figure 03 on October 9, 2025. The company described it as its third-generation humanoid platform, designed around Helix, home environments, and scaled manufacturing.
Figure reported several hardware changes:
- A redesigned camera system, including cameras embedded in the palms.
- Tactile fingertip sensing that the company said could detect forces as small as three grams.
- Softer exterior materials and washable soft goods intended to be more suitable for close interaction with people and household objects.
- Reduced mass and volume compared with the preceding platform.
- Improved speech-to-speech audio hardware.
- Battery-safety features and wireless inductive charging.
- A charging stand that Figure said could deliver 2 kW when the robot stepped onto it.
These are Figure-reported specifications, not independent test results. More importantly, “designed for the home” describes the platform’s engineering target. It does not establish a consumer launch, retail price, broad availability, or independent safety certification for ordinary home buyers.

January 2026: Helix 02 adds whole-body autonomy
Helix 02 extended the system from upper-body manipulation to a unified whole-body model coordinating walking, manipulation, and balance. Figure’s headline demonstration was a four-minute dishwasher sequence in a full-sized kitchen.
Figure said the robot:
- Walked through the kitchen.
- Unloaded dishes.
- Stacked items.
- Reloaded the dishwasher.
- Started the dishwasher.
The company described the sequence as autonomous, using onboard sensors and 61 ordered loco-manipulation actions. Figure also said the robot performed implicit error recovery. That is more representative of the challenge of domestic assistance than a single stationary grasp, but it remains a company-produced demonstration rather than an independently reproduced reliability test.
How Helix 02 is structured
Figure describes Helix 02 as a hierarchy of systems operating at different speeds:
| System | Role | Reported operating rate |
|---|---|---|
| System 2 | Slower semantic-reasoning layer that interprets the task and its broader context. | Not specified in the supplied announcement. |
| System 1 | Faster visuomotor policy that produces full-body joint targets. | 200 Hz |
| System 0 | High-frequency controller handling balance, contact, and coordination. | 1 kHz |
Figure said System 0 was trained on more than 1,000 hours of retargeted human-motion data. In practical terms, the hierarchy separates high-level decisions—what the robot is trying to accomplish—from fast low-level corrections that help it remain balanced and manage contact with objects and the environment. The operating rates and training-hours figure are architectural claims from Figure, not independently validated benchmarks.
The household demonstrations became more complex
Living-room tidying
In March 2026, Figure showed Helix 02 tidying a living room. The demonstrated actions included spraying and wiping a surface, handling a towel, putting blocks into a bin, throwing a pillow onto a couch, reorienting a remote, pressing a button, and navigating through a narrow gap while manipulating objects.

This sequence matters because it combines objects with very different physical properties and destinations. A block, towel, pillow, spray bottle, remote control, and furniture surface do not all invite the same grasp or movement. Still, the demonstration should not be treated as proof that every living room can be cleaned reliably. The public material does not provide a success rate across ordinary homes, a list of excluded situations, or evidence of long-term unsupervised operation.
Two robots resetting a bedroom
In May 2026, Figure showed two Helix 02-equipped humanoids resetting a bedroom in under two minutes. Figure said the robots opened doors, hung clothes, put away headphones, closed a book, removed trash, pushed in a chair, and made a bed.
Figure emphasized that both robots used one learned VLA policy without a shared planner, message passing, or central coordinator. Each robot inferred the other’s intent from observed movement. If that behavior holds outside the demonstration conditions, it would reduce the need to manually choreograph every interaction between robots. It does not mean that multi-robot teamwork is solved in arbitrary homes; the company has not published broad independent testing of that claim.
Why a home is harder than a factory
A factory can be designed around a robot. The work area, lighting, object positions, safety zones, floor surfaces, and production steps can be standardized. A home is usually the opposite: furniture moves, objects are left in unexpected places, lighting changes, people and pets cross the robot’s path, and appliances vary from one property to the next.
That variability creates several unresolved requirements for a household humanoid:
- Perception: It must distinguish a usable object from clutter, recognize whether a drawer or door is open, and understand what is safe to touch.
- Manipulation: It must apply enough force to open, lift, wipe, or press something without crushing fragile objects or damaging finishes.
- Navigation: It must handle thresholds, tight clearances, stairs or level changes, changing furniture layouts, and people moving nearby.
- Recovery: It must know when an object has slipped, a door is blocked, a dish is misplaced, or the requested action is unsafe or impossible.
- Human interaction: It must operate predictably around children, pets, visitors, and workers who did not issue the original instruction.
- Maintenance: Cameras, tactile sensors, batteries, grippers, washable coverings, and charging equipment must remain reliable in a dusty, messy environment.
Figure’s dishwasher, living-room, and bedroom demonstrations address portions of this problem. They do not establish that the entire problem has been solved.
What Figure 03 means for home and building design
For builders and designers, the most useful lesson is not that a particular house can now be specified around Figure 03. Figure has not published a consumer installation standard or a set of ordinary-home requirements in the material covered here.
The broader lesson is that domestic robotics makes the built environment part of the automation system. If humanoids eventually become common household workers, practical design questions could include:

- Whether a robot has a safe, accessible place to charge without blocking circulation.
- Whether finishes and furniture can tolerate controlled contact, cleaning, and occasional recovery movements.
- How homes separate robot work areas from stairs, hot surfaces, tools, chemicals, and other hazards.
These are forward-looking design considerations, not Figure-approved specifications. Today, they are better understood as questions for future accessible-home and automation planning than as requirements for a current Figure installation.

Figure’s near-term path appears to be commercial and industrial deployment while home tasks remain a major research target.
In an April 29, 2026 production update, Figure said BotQ had delivered more than 350 Figure 03 robots. The company reported increasing production from one robot per day to a demonstrated rate of one robot per hour, conducting more than 80 functional verification tests per robot, and shipping more than 500 battery packs.

The company’s public news updates also reported a Figure 03 deployment at BMW’s Spartanburg plant in June 2026, following earlier Figure 02 work at BMW, and a commercial agreement with Catalyst Brands for humanoid deployment at a Reno distribution logistics center.
Those deployments do not prove that the robot is ready for a kitchen or bedroom. They do show the infrastructure Figure is building: hardware production, testing, data collection, and customer deployments that can provide feedback beyond a single lab prototype.
Can you buy Figure’s home robot?
There is no verified evidence in the supplied public material of a retail purchase path, consumer launch, general availability, or published home price for Figure 03 or an earlier Figure platform. The expected cost of advanced humanoid robots has generally been discussed in the five- to six-figure range, but that is an industry expectation rather than a Figure retail quote.
Figure’s public-facing activity emphasizes company contact, recruiting, manufacturing, research, and commercial deployment. A video showing a robot taking a voice instruction should therefore be read as a report on robotics development—not as a product recommendation or buying opportunity.

What the original headline gets right—and wrong
The headline is accurate in the narrow sense: Figure demonstrated a humanoid robot receiving natural-language instructions and carrying out household-style manipulation. Helix is significant because it attempts to connect what a person says with what the robot sees and how its body moves.

It becomes misleading if it suggests that Figure has released a reliable domestic servant. The strongest defensible description is:
Figure has demonstrated Helix-powered humanoid robots performing increasingly complex, voice-specified household tasks, while continuing to develop the hardware, training data, autonomy, and commercial infrastructure needed for general-purpose home assistance.
For now, the gap between a polished demonstration and a dependable home product remains substantial. Figure’s progress is real and increasingly broad, but the evidence supports development and deployment in controlled or commercial contexts—not a robot that most households can purchase and leave to manage the house on its own.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can consumers buy Figure’s humanoid robot for their homes?
No. The supplied public material does not establish a retail purchase path, consumer launch, general availability, or a published home price for Figure 03 or Helix-powered robots. Figure’s current public activity centers on research, production, and commercial deployments.
What did Figure’s original voice-order demonstration show?
The February 2025 demonstration showed two Figure 02 robots receiving ordinary-language instructions, handing a bag of cookies to one another, and placing it in an open drawer. The important advance was the combination of language, vision, and learned motor control.
What is the difference between Helix, Helix 02, Figure 02, and Figure 03?
Helix originally focused on continuous upper-body control and manipulation. Helix 02, introduced in January 2026, extended the approach to whole-body control by coordinating walking, manipulation, and balance. Figure 03 is the newer hardware platform designed around Helix and home environments.
Is Figure’s robot fully autonomous?
Figure described the four-minute dishwasher sequence as autonomous and said it used onboard sensors, 61 ordered loco-manipulation actions, and implicit error recovery. That does not demonstrate reliable autonomy in arbitrary homes or prove that unsupervised housekeeping is ready for consumers.
Will homes need to be designed differently for humanoid robots?
Not yet as a published standard. Figure has not established ordinary-home installation requirements in the supplied material. If humanoid robots become common, builders may eventually need to consider circulation clearance, thresholds, appliance access, charging locations, durable finishes, and safe separation from hazards.
The Bottom Line
Bottom line: Figure’s Helix model lets its humanoid robots connect voice instructions with visual understanding and learned physical movements. The original 2025 cookie-handling demonstration evolved into Figure 03 hardware, Helix 02 whole-body autonomy, navigation from conversational commands, and more elaborate dishwasher, living-room, and bedroom tasks.
As of August 12, 2026, however, this is still a developing robotics platform rather than a broadly available consumer home appliance. Figure has reported production and commercial deployments, but the public evidence does not establish a retail price, general home availability, independent reliability testing, or certification for unsupervised household use.
