It is a controlled tryout of the work you actually do: the material, cut, joint, routed edge, or sanding job you need to complete. Before you compare kits, ask a representative to recreate that task, observe setup and cleanup, and verify every accessory and power-system detail in the package you would buy.
Festool’s US events are held at participating dealers, where representatives answer questions and demonstrate current tools and innovations. Availability is local and changes, so check the Festool demonstration events page and find a Festool dealer before traveling.

Where you can get a Festool demonstration
Start with Festool USA’s events calendar. It lists in-person demonstrations at participating dealers, but an event is not a guarantee that every product or configuration will be present. Confirm the date, venue, featured tools, registration requirements, and whether you can bring a sample or operate the equipment.
The dealer locator separates full-line dealers from paint-and-drywall and limited-selection dealers. Some locations are identified as ExoActive dealers that offer fitting and demonstrations. Treat those labels as clues about the type of help available, not as a promise that a particular saw, extractor, sander, or joiner is in stock. Call ahead with the exact model category and task you want to see.

Festool’s US product listings cover cordless products, saws, dust extractors, sanders, routing tools, drills and screwdrivers, and DOMINO joiners. Use those categories to request a task-specific appointment rather than asking for an unstructured overview: a track saw and guide rail for sheet-goods cuts, a DOMINO joiner for a representative joint, or a CLEANTEC mobile dust extractor connected to a dust-producing operation.
Prepare a task the representative can reproduce
Describe the work, not just the tool
Write down the operation you need to perform, the material, its dimensions, the finish standard, and how often the job occurs. “I need to break down 19 mm plywood into repeatable cabinet parts” gives the representative more useful information than “I am looking at a track saw.” Include whether the work happens in a shop, on a jobsite, or in a finished interior where dust and portability matter.
Bring representative material when practical
A small offcut or sample at the same thickness and type you normally use can reveal setup issues that a showroom sample hides. Bring the dimensions, fasteners, edge details, or joint layout that make your job difficult. Ask the dealer first whether outside material is permitted and whether it can be safely used on the demonstration equipment.
Define a pass or fail result
Decide what you need to inspect: a clean cut on a visible edge, a joint that aligns without excessive adjustment, a routed profile that meets your finishing requirement, or a sanded surface ready for the next coating. Do not substitute a vague impression of smoothness or power for the result your work actually demands.

What should I ask at a Festool demo?
Can you show me this tool doing my actual task?
Use the literal task as your opening request. Ask the representative to use your material or an equivalent sample, follow the same sequence you would use in production, and explain any safety or setup step that differs from your current method. If the venue cannot run your exact operation, ask what part of the demonstration is representative and what remains untested.
Which setup and accessories change the result?
Ask for the adjustment sequence, the accessory choices that matter, and the reason for each one. For a saw, that may include the guide-rail arrangement, blade selection, depth setting, and workpiece support. For a joiner or router, ask about stops, cutters, guides, and alignment. Have the representative identify what is included in the specific package and what is an additional purchase.
Can I handle or operate the tool?
Ask whether you may hold or operate it under the representative’s instruction. Check grip shape, trigger and control placement, sight lines, balance, reach, adjustment access, and the effort required for a changeover. A demonstration should never involve bypassing a guard, ignoring personal protective equipment, or using the machine without permission and instruction.

What happens to dust and cleanup?
Ask to see the complete workflow, including extraction connection, hose routing, emptying or changing the collection system, and cleanup around the workpiece. For a sanding, routing, or cutting task, inspect the sample and the surrounding area rather than accepting a claim that dust control is adequate. Confirm which extractor, hose, connector, or adapter is compatible with the configuration being shown.

Which configuration fits my work pattern?
Ask the representative to compare corded and cordless operation for your frequency, materials, work location, and available power. Discuss battery platform requirements, charging logistics, runtime expectations for your own workflow, and whether the accessory system you already own is compatible. Request the current model designation and product literature so you can verify details after the appointment.
What must I confirm before paying?
Read back the exact model and configuration, then check the package contents line by line. Confirm batteries and charger where applicable, guide rails or other required accessories, consumables, storage components, warranty-registration requirements, service arrangements, and the seller’s current price. Ask the dealer to put any promised component or service in writing on the quotation or invoice.
How to test a tool during the demonstration
- Agree on the task and safety plan. Tell the representative the material, dimensions, desired result, and your experience level. Follow the venue’s protective-equipment and operating rules.
- Record the starting setup. Note the model, blade or cutter, abrasive, guide, hose, battery, and adjustment settings. Without this record, two demonstrations may not be comparable.
- Watch the setup time. Observe how the tool is unpacked, mounted, adjusted, connected to extraction, and prepared for the first operation. Ask which steps are essential and which are optional conveniences.
- Run the representative task. If permitted, perform the operation yourself after the demonstration. Use equivalent material and the same settings when comparing two options.
- Inspect the workpiece. Look at the cut, joint, routed edge, or sanded surface under the lighting in which you normally work. Check fit, visible marks, tear-out, edge condition, and repeatability across more than one sample when time allows.
- Check control and visibility. Pay attention to how easily you can see the line or surface, maintain the intended path, reach controls, and make an adjustment without losing your setup.
- Observe dust and cleanup. Look at the collection point, hose movement, residual dust on the workpiece, and the time needed to leave the area ready for the next operation.
- Repeat the changeover. Have the representative show a common adjustment, accessory swap, or battery change. This exposes awkward latches, lost settings, or extra parts that a one-off cut may hide.
- Write down unresolved questions. Photograph or record model labels only where the dealer permits it, and request the relevant manual or product sheet before leaving.
Use the same decision axes when comparing two options
If two actual tools or configurations are available, run or observe the same representative task with equivalent material and setup. Keep the comparison about your work rather than assuming a higher price or a newer model is automatically better.
| Decision area | What to observe or ask |
|---|---|
| Task fit | Does each option perform the operation, on your material and at your required finish standard? |
| Setup and adjustment | How long does configuration take, and can you repeat the settings reliably? |
| Control and visibility | Can you follow the line or surface and reach controls without an awkward posture? |
| Ergonomics | How do grip, balance, reach, and comfort feel in the position you will use most? |
| Result | What do the actual samples show for the cut, joint, edge, or surface? Avoid treating an unsupported precision claim as a measurement. |
| Dust and cleanup | How practical is extraction, and what cleanup remains after the operation? |
| System fit | Which guide rails, accessories, consumables, storage pieces, hoses, and power platform are required? |
| Package fit | What is in the exact kit, and what must be purchased separately to complete your workflow? |
There is no named published statistic in the available official material showing that demonstrations improve buying outcomes, and no reader-relevant laboratory figure establishes runtime, noise, dust capture, or accuracy for these tools. Use the visit to gather evidence about your task, not to infer a universal performance ranking.

Concrete demonstration scenarios
Track saw and guide rail
Ask for a cut in the sheet material and thickness you commonly use. Watch rail placement, workpiece support, depth adjustment, line visibility, and the connection to extraction. Inspect both the finished edge and the underside for damage. Confirm the exact guide-rail length, joining hardware, clamps, blade, and extractor connection required for your layout; compatibility and package contents vary by configuration and must be checked in current product information.
DOMINO DF 500 joiner
Bring a joint layout that reflects your furniture or trim work. Ask the representative to demonstrate registration, fence or stop adjustments, cutter selection, and the sequence for keeping mating parts aligned. Test the dry fit before glue-up, inspect the joint faces, and ask which tenons, cutters, stops, and storage components are included in the package you are considering.
CLEANTEC mobile dust extractor
Connect the extractor to the tool used for your dust-producing operation and observe hose routing, start-and-stop behavior, collection, filter or bag access, and movement around your work area. Ask which hose and connector match the demonstrated tool and whether the proposed extractor capacity and form factor suit your material, duty cycle, and transport needs. Do not treat a clean showroom floor as proof of a particular capture percentage.
Check the kit, service, and total workflow before buying
After testing, compare complete workflows rather than bare tool bodies. A cordless package may require batteries and a charger; a rail-guided operation may require a rail, clamps, and joining parts; a dust-producing operation may require an extractor, hose, connector, and consumables. List every item needed for the first real job and mark whether it is included, optional, or already owned.

Verify the model number on the quotation against the current product page and literature. Confirm regional electrical or battery details, accessory compatibility, storage requirements, and the seller’s return or service process. Ask how warranty registration works and retain the invoice and serial-number information. Do not rely on a verbal promise about coverage or availability.
Can I try a Festool tool before I buy it?
At a local event or dealer, you may be able to handle or operate a tool when the venue and representative allow it. Ask in advance because access, staffing, and available models differ by location.
Festool USA also describes a separate 30-day risk-free cordless trial on its Cordless Test Drive page. Read the current terms for eligibility, participating products, timing, and return requirements; do not assume that an event demonstration and the trial have identical conditions. The same page lists a cordless review contest with an entry deadline of December 31, 2026. That contest is not part of the trial and should not be treated as a purchase guarantee or a performance claim.

Prepare with official information and follow up afterward
Before the appointment, use Festool’s Knowledge page for videos, tutorials, product information, catalogs, and Festool Live material. The Downloads & Owners Manuals page lists a 2026 English product catalog. These resources can help you identify model names and terminology, but they do not replace checking the local event schedule or the dealer’s actual inventory.
After the demonstration, request the manuals and product sheets for the exact configurations tested. Compare your notes with the written package contents, then ask the dealer to resolve any discrepancy before you order. If the representative could not reproduce a critical operation, arrange another demonstration or treat that uncertainty as an unanswered buying question.
Common demonstration mistakes
- Watching a generic showcase: A polished sample may not represent your material, dimensions, or finish requirement.
- Changing several variables at once: Different blades, abrasives, rails, settings, and extractors make a comparison meaningless.
- Ignoring setup and cleanup: A fast cut can become an inefficient workflow when adjustment, extraction, or storage is added.
- Comparing tool bodies instead of complete kits: Missing batteries, rails, hoses, stops, or consumables can change the real cost and usefulness.
- Assuming every dealer has every demonstration: Dealer categories and local events differ, so confirm before traveling.
- Leaving without model details: Record the exact designation and package contents before comparing offers or ordering online.
A good demonstration leaves you with a tested task, documented settings, inspected samples, a complete accessory list, and a clear answer about what remains uncertain. That evidence is more useful than a generic impression of power or a claim that one configuration is best for everyone.
