Short answer: EKD’s AMPERE.StoragePro is a real integrated residential battery system, but its headline claims need careful interpretation. The company’s “up to 20% more efficiency” wording appears to describe higher effective storage performance, not a standardised 20% improvement in battery round-trip efficiency. The “48-year life” figure is not confirmed by the official data sheets reviewed. For the newer E3 generation, the clearest documented promise is a 100% capacity guarantee for 10 years.
That makes the StoragePro worth comparing—especially for homeowners seeking an integrated, high-power system—but not buying solely on the basis of its longevity headline.

What is the AMPERE.StoragePro?
The AMPERE.StoragePro is an all-in-one home energy-storage system associated with Energiekonzepte Deutschland (EKD) and AMPERE German Electric Innovation GmbH. It combines lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) battery cells with a three-phase hybrid inverter and energy-management software, rather than relying on a separate battery and external inverter.

The system forms part of EKD’s broader EKD 365+ energy system. Product design work was carried out with Studio F. A. Porsche. LFP chemistry is generally valued for its safety characteristics and cycle-life potential, but the chemistry alone does not prove the lifetime, efficiency or safety performance of a complete installed system.

Specifications vary substantially between generations and data-sheet revisions. The May 2024 data sheet described 6–20 kWh storage options, an integrated three-phase 10 kW inverter, dynamic-price charging through AMPERE.IQ, shading management and cascading to as much as 200 kWh. EKD’s launch material described different configurations of approximately 6.6–23.1 kWh and discharge power of up to 20 kW. These figures should not be treated as one universal StoragePro specification.

Claim audit: what does “20% more efficiency” mean?
EKD says the integrated architecture can increase “actual storage performance” by up to 20%. That is a marketing claim, but it is not automatically equivalent to a 20% increase in battery round-trip efficiency.
Several different measurements may be described as efficiency:
- Battery round-trip efficiency: the energy recovered from the battery divided by the energy put into it.
- System efficiency: losses across the PV array, inverter, battery, controls and household output.
- Usable energy: the energy available within the system’s permitted state-of-charge limits, rather than its nominal capacity.
- Effective storage performance: a broader comparison that might include architecture, conversion stages, control software or usable capacity.
EKD’s launch explanation does not provide enough information to establish a standardised 20% round-trip-efficiency advantage. A meaningful comparison would need to identify:

- whether the comparison is DC-coupled or AC-coupled;
- the measurement point and whether standby consumption is included;
- charge and discharge power;
- battery state-of-charge range;
- temperature and other operating conditions;
- whether the result is measured or modelled; and
- whether it applies to every StoragePro size.
Until those conditions are published, the safest reading is “up to 20% higher effective storage performance under EKD’s comparison,” not “the battery is 20% more efficient than every competitor.” Ask an installer for system-level round-trip efficiency at the power levels your home actually uses.
Claim audit: can it really last 48 years?
The available official documentation does not substantiate a 48-year operating-life or warranty claim. EKD’s launch material refers instead to initial laboratory results indicating more than 20 years of reliable use. A newer E3 data sheet specifies a 100% capacity guarantee for 10 years. That is materially different from a 48-year guarantee.
A very long figure could theoretically result from a cycle-life calculation, a low assumed annual cycle count, cell testing under controlled conditions or a calendar-life projection. It might also refer only to cells, rather than the complete storage system. None of those interpretations should be presented as proof that an installed StoragePro will operate unchanged for 48 years.

- depth of discharge;
- charge and discharge rate;
- time spent at a high state of charge;
- cell balancing and battery-management software;
- annual throughput and cycling frequency; and
- the availability of replacement inverters, contactors, cooling components, communications hardware and control electronics.
Even if the cells remained usable for several decades, the inverter and communications equipment would likely represent separate replacement risks. A cycle-life estimate is therefore not the same as a guaranteed service life for the complete product.

Features that matter in a real installation
Dynamic-price charging and forecasting
AMPERE.IQ is described as using electricity-price signals to charge when grid electricity is cheaper. EKD also describes PV forecasting and automated adjustment based on expected solar production. This can be useful where dynamic tariffs are available and the battery is permitted to charge from the grid.
The economics are not automatic. Savings depend on the price spread after network charges, taxes, levies, supplier margins, battery losses and any service fees. Forecasts can be wrong, frequent cycling can increase degradation, and a reserve kept for outages reduces the energy available for tariff arbitrage. Availability and integration may also differ by country.

Backup power
The E3 documentation lists a grid-replacement function, but that does not prove that every installation provides automatic whole-home backup. Before signing a contract, confirm:
- whether backup hardware or a separate transfer switch is required;
- which circuits remain powered;
- whether three-phase backup is supported;
- the continuous and peak backup output;
- transfer time and black-start behaviour;
- whether PV can recharge the battery during an outage; and
- how the system behaves during a prolonged outage.
A high discharge rating also does not mean the battery can sustain that output for a long period. Energy capacity and power capability are separate specifications.
Cascading and integrated architecture
Integrating the inverter can reduce component count and simplify the overall layout. The trade-off is greater dependence on one supplier for compatible modules, firmware and replacement parts. Cascaded systems also require confirmation of firmware compatibility, balancing behaviour, inverter limits and warranty treatment across module versions.

German design is not the same as German manufacturing
EKD and AMPERE are German companies, and the product is described as German-developed or German-designed. The available documentation identifies AMPERE German Electric Innovation GmbH in Taucha, Germany, but does not establish that every cell, inverter component, battery module, software service and assembly operation is manufactured in Germany.

Ask for separate information about cell origin, module assembly, inverter manufacture, software hosting, OEM relationships and the legal warranty provider. A German corporate address alone does not prove the manufacturing origin of the complete system.
What to ask an installer before buying
- Which exact model and data-sheet revision is quoted? Record the capacity, inverter rating and firmware generation.
- What is the usable capacity? Do not rely only on nominal kWh.
- What is the measured system-level round-trip efficiency? Request the test conditions and measurement point behind any “20%” comparison.
- What are the continuous and peak charge/discharge powers? Check them against heat pumps, induction cooking and EV charging.
- What exactly is guaranteed for 10 years? Confirm retained capacity, throughput limits, cycle limits and exclusions.
- Does the warranty cover the complete system? Ask about labour, shipping, module replacement and failed electronics.
- What does backup include? Obtain the backed-up circuits, transfer time, phases and maximum load in writing.
- What happens if cloud services are unavailable? Check local controls, data export, remote updates and any subscription fees.
- Can the system be expanded later? Confirm compatibility and how mixed-age modules are handled.
- What is the total installed price? Include VAT, commissioning, backup switchgear, metering, grid paperwork and ongoing service.
Price and payback
EKD promotional material from August 2024 stated that the system was available from €6,000. That was a dated, pre-installation “from” price—not a verified August 2026 installed price. It should not be used as the basis for a current payback calculation.
A credible estimate needs the complete quotation, usable capacity, expected annual cycles, local electricity and export prices, dynamic-tariff spread, degradation assumptions, financing and service costs. Compare installed cost per usable kWh and cost per kW of continuous output, not the battery-only headline price.
How it should be compared with alternatives
Potential comparison candidates include BYD Battery-Box Premium, Huawei LUNA2000, Tesla Powerwall and sonnenBatterie. Current prices, stock and exact compatibility depend on location and installation and should be verified in the quotation.
Use the same criteria for every system:
- usable capacity and continuous output;
- measured round-trip efficiency and standby consumption;
- warranty duration, retained capacity and throughput limits;
- backup hardware, phases and transfer behaviour;
- compatibility with existing PV equipment;
- dynamic-tariff support in the buyer’s market;
- installer and service coverage;
- cloud, API and subscription requirements; and
- replacement economics for inverters and control hardware.
Verdict
The AMPERE.StoragePro may suit homeowners who value a compact integrated design, LFP chemistry, strong inverter output, energy-management features and local installation support. Its newer E3 documentation adds useful functions such as grid replacement, remote maintenance and firmware updates.
But the evidence does not justify treating the headline as independently proven: “up to 20% more efficiency” is insufficiently defined, and the 48-year life is not confirmed by the official data sheets reviewed. The strongest documented longevity point is the E3 generation’s 10-year 100% capacity guarantee. Treat the StoragePro as a product to compare on verified usable energy, power, warranty, backup scope, serviceability and installed cost—not as a guaranteed 48-year battery.
