In practical terms, the saw’s displacement and size point toward a maneuverable property-maintenance tool: removing small trees, cutting branches, processing modest firewood and clearing storm debris.

Whether it feels adequate depends on variables that no specification sheet can settle. Wood species, diameter, moisture, chain sharpness, bar length, filing accuracy, operator technique and maintenance all change the cutting experience. A sharp chain in clean, suitable wood can make a small saw feel productive, while a dull chain, dirty filter or pinched bar can make any saw appear underpowered. The support specification page lists 14- and 16-inch guide-bar options with a 91PX chain and 3/8-inch pitch. The U.S. product page lists a 16-inch available bar. That difference is a configuration and market issue, not necessarily a contradiction: a dealer package may include one bar while the model supports more than one approved length.

What to confirm before buying a replacement
- Guide-bar length: verify whether your saw is fitted with 14 or 16 inches.
- Chain pitch: the listed pitch is 3/8 inch.
- Chain family: ECHO lists 91PX; confirm the exact chain specification for your bar.
- Gauge and drive-link count: these must match the bar and are not established by pitch alone.
- Regional package: compare the seller’s contents with the serial-number or model information on your saw.
Do not order solely by the phrase “16-inch chain.” A chain with the wrong gauge or drive-link count will not fit correctly even when the nominal length looks right. ECHO’s support specifications and the current CS-3510 operator’s manual are the appropriate references for your exact configuration.
Fuel, oil and storage requirements
ECHO’s U.S. specification information calls for 89-octane unleaded gasoline and a 50:1 fuel-to-oil mix. The specified two-stroke oil standard is ISO-L-EGD/JASO M345-FD for air-cooled engines. The same information warns against gasoline containing methyl alcohol, more than 10% ethyl alcohol or 15% MTBE, and specifically excludes E-15 and E-85. Fuel formulations and legal labels can vary by country, so use the instructions for your market and the current manual as the operating authority.
Mixing fuel without guessing
- Use a clean, approved fuel container rather than a household bottle.
- Measure gasoline and approved two-stroke oil to the 50:1 ratio; do not estimate by eye.
- Mix in the container according to the oil manufacturer’s directions, then label the container with the mix and date.
- Keep the mixture away from ignition sources and use fresh fuel within the storage period stated by the oil or saw manufacturer.
- Never put the two-stroke mix in the separate chain-oil tank. Fill that reservoir only with suitable bar-and-chain oil.
The U.S. product information lists a 9.5 fl oz fuel tank and a 7.8 fl oz chain-oil tank. Actual runtime and oil consumption are not established here; they change with throttle use, wood, temperature, chain condition and the automatic-oiler setting. If the saw is stored between seasons, follow the manual’s fuel-draining and preservation procedure rather than improvising.

First-use setup and operating checks
The operator’s manual covers starting, cutting, chain-brake checks, tensioning, sharpening, maintenance, storage and required protective equipment. Read it before starting the engine. It also states: “Do not lend or rent your chain saw without the Operator’s Manual.” Keep that manual with the saw if another trained person uses it.

Before the first cut
- Identify the exact model and configuration, then install the approved bar and 91PX chain combination listed for it.
- Check that the chain is correctly oriented, tensioned and able to move freely when the brake is released. Follow the manual’s tension procedure; a new chain may require more than one adjustment as it seats.
- Fill the fuel tank with the correct 50:1 mix and the oil tank with bar-and-chain oil. Wipe spills before starting.
- Inspect the chain catcher, guide-bar rails, sprocket area, handles, controls and guards for damage or loose hardware.
- Test the chain brake and other controls exactly as described in the manual before cutting.
- Put on the protective equipment specified by the manual and clear bystanders, pets and trip hazards from the work area.
Starting and cutting discipline
The i-30 system is intended to reduce starting effort, but it does not remove the need to use the manual’s starting position and sequence. Start on stable ground with the chain brake engaged as instructed, and never drop-start the saw. Once running, allow the engine to reach operating condition according to the manual before applying it to wood.
Plan each cut, maintain a secure two-handed grip and keep the bar, chain and nose away from anything you do not intend to cut. Kickback risk, falling branches, hidden metal and unstable storm-damaged trees can make a seemingly small job hazardous. If a tree is hung up, under tension or close to structures and utility lines, stop and use a qualified professional rather than improvising.
Maintenance that protects performance
Compact saws reward routine care. The CS-3510 has a side-access chain tensioner, multi-stage air filtration and an automatic oiler, but those features still need inspection and cleaning. The manual’s intervals and procedures take priority over a generic schedule.
After each work session
- Clean sawdust from the cooling-air paths, clutch cover and chain-brake area.
- Check chain sharpness, tension, drive links and the condition of the guide-bar rails.
- Verify that the automatic oiler is delivering oil to the chain using the manual’s test method.
- Inspect the air filter and clean or replace it as directed.
- Look for loose fasteners, damaged handles, a worn chain catcher or cracks in the bar.
- Empty or preserve fuel for storage using the manual’s instructions, especially when the saw will sit unused.
Sharpening and replacement decisions
Cutting performance is strongly affected by chain condition, so a slow cut is not proof that the engine lacks power. A chain that produces fine dust, pulls to one side or requires excessive pressure needs attention. Use the filing dimensions and depth-gauge settings in the manual, or have a qualified service provider sharpen it. Replace a chain or bar when wear, damage or repeated adjustment prevents safe tension and smooth tracking.

The spark plug specification is NGK BPMR8Y. The manual should determine inspection, gap and replacement practice; do not substitute a plug based only on a similar-looking thread. Keep records of fuel mix, sharpening and service if the saw is used frequently or commercially.

At 8.2 lb dry without the bar and chain, the CS-3510’s powerhead is relatively compact on paper. Add the chosen guide bar, chain, fuel and chain oil before comparing it with another saw’s “ready-to-cut” weight. A fair comparison uses the same measurement basis for every model.
The three-point spring vibration-reduction system is an advertised feature. No instrumented vibration result or independent fatigue comparison is available here, so the saw should not be described as vibration-free or categorically easier on the arms. Balance also changes with bar length and fuel level. A 14-inch setup may feel different from a 16-inch setup even on the same powerhead.

The product page’s accessories section lists standard bar-and-chain oil, biodegradable bar-and-chain oil, Red Armor fuel, guide-bar nuts and several cases or carry options. A listing in an accessories section does not mean an item is included with the saw. Ask the seller to state the package contents, bar length, chain configuration and whether a case or oil is extra.
Ownership costs beyond the sticker price
- Correct two-stroke oil and 89-octane gasoline that meet the stated restrictions.
- Bar-and-chain oil, consumed separately from fuel.
