Dyson’s late-2025 UK floorcare line-up is not three versions of the same vacuum. The PencilVac is a slim cordless dry vacuum, the Clean+Wash Hygiene is a manually operated wet-and-dry hard-floor cleaner, and the Spot+Scrub Ai is an autonomous robot vacuum and mop.
For quick everyday vacuuming, choose PencilVac. For frequent spills on sealed hard floors, choose Clean+Wash Hygiene. Spot+Scrub Ai is the most ambitious option—and the one to choose only if hands-off cleaning justifies its premium price.

#1 Best Overall
- Powerful Dyson Suction. Engineered for homes with pets.
- Ball technology helps you navigate around obstacles with a simple turn of the wrist. For easy, precise maneuvering around your home.
- The self-adjusting cleaner head has an active base plate that automatically raises and lowers to seal in suction across all floors. Combined with a powerful motorized brush bar, it deep cleans throughout the home.
- Engineered for larger homes with pets.
- Comes with 5 Dyson-engineered accessories. Combination tool, Stair tool, Reach under tool, Mattress tool and Tool holder enable you to clean up high, down low, and everywhere in between.
- PencilVac: dry cordless vacuuming.
- Clean+Wash Hygiene: manual wet-and-dry cleaning for hard floors.
- Spot+Scrub Ai: robot vacuuming, stain-focused scrubbing and hard-floor washing.
The original coverage was a first look rather than a full long-term comparative test. PencilVac was tried directly, while Spot+Scrub was demonstrated at Dyson’s Berlin Demo Store during IFA 2025. There are no documented independent results here for runtime, noise, carpet pickup, drying time, reliability or maintenance over several weeks.
Dyson PencilVac: best for quick, dry cleaning
PencilVac is built around an unusually narrow body measuring 38mm—roughly 1.5 inches in diameter. That makes it easier to store in a cupboard or narrow utility space and potentially useful under furniture where a conventional stick vacuum cannot fit comfortably.
Its smaller, faster Hyperdymium motor drives a conical brush bar with four fluffy cones. Dyson says the design helps eject hair and reduce tangling, while the brush bar can reach up to 14,000rpm. A syringe-like emptying system and air-based dust compression are intended to make the slim bin more practical than its dimensions suggest.

What it does well
- Easy grab-and-go cleaning for crumbs, dust and everyday debris.
- Very slim storage and a narrow cleaner head.
- A brush design aimed at reducing hair wrap.
- More convenient for small flats and hard-floor maintenance than a bulky full-size machine.
What remains uncertain
The available first-look evidence does not establish how PencilVac performs as a whole-home vacuum. There are no independent measurements for battery life, suction, noise, carpet cleaning or bin capacity in real use. A fast brush bar is not, by itself, proof of superior pickup.
The narrow format may also involve compromises in capacity, battery size, sustained high-power cleaning and ergonomics. Treat it as a convenient maintenance vacuum rather than automatically assuming it can replace a larger cordless model in a carpet-heavy home with pets.
Choose PencilVac if: you mainly need dry cleaning, have limited storage, prefer frequent short cleanups and have mostly hard floors.
Look elsewhere if: you need wet cleaning, deep carpet cleaning, substantial capacity or one machine for every surface.

- Dyson Ball Animal Origin upright vacuum
Dyson Clean+Wash Hygiene: best for hard-floor spills
Clean+Wash Hygiene is a manually operated wet-and-dry cleaner. It is designed to collect dry debris and liquid mess in the same pass, so Dyson says pre-vacuuming is not required.
The main design change from the older WashG1 is where waste is handled. Clean water sits at the front, while dirty water and debris are collected in the cleaner head. Dyson says this separates wet and dry waste and prevents dirt from travelling through the machine in the same way as a conventional vacuum airflow path.
Features and ownership
- Microfibre roller for simultaneous dry and wet pickup.
- Separate collection of liquid and solid debris in the head.
- Self-cleaning cycle after use.
- Dock with hot-air roller drying at approximately 185°F, according to Dyson.
- Designed for suitable hard floors, not carpets.
This is the most logical Dyson for kitchens, children, pets, muddy footprints and regular food or drink spills—provided the home also has a separate carpet vacuum. “No pre-vacuuming required” is a manufacturer claim, not a guarantee that every combination of long hair, grit, sticky food and large debris will be effortless.
Self-cleaning reduces work but does not eliminate it. You should still expect to empty waste, refill clean water, inspect the roller and head, remove residue and deal with any clogs. Check Dyson’s regional guidance before using a wet cleaner on wood, laminate, stone, waxed or otherwise delicate floors. Dyson also says its 02 Probiotic hard-floor solution is sold separately for compatible wet-and-dry cleaners; regional requirements and consumables may vary.

Choose Clean+Wash Hygiene if: most of your home has sealed hard floors and spills are a bigger problem than dusting carpets.
Look elsewhere if: you want autonomous cleaning, have extensive carpet or dislike maintaining water tanks and wet rollers.
Dyson Spot+Scrub Ai: the most ambitious option
Spot+Scrub Ai combines robot vacuuming with wet hard-floor cleaning. It uses LiDAR mapping and a front-facing camera, while Dyson says its AI can identify stains and objects, make repeated passes and check whether a stain has been removed.
Dyson’s launch material describes up to 15 passes over stubborn stains, a 12-point hydration system, green-spectrum illumination and a wet roller that cleans itself as it rotates. The roller can extend by approximately 1.5 to 1.6 inches for closer edge cleaning. Dyson also says the robot lifts the wet roller on carpet, can increase carpet suction by up to 4× and offers up to 200 minutes of runtime, depending on conditions and mode.

- Lightweight for quick, versatile cordless cleaning.
- Up to 40 minutes of fade-free Dyson power.¹
- Power trigger helps maximize energy efficiency, only using power where you need it.
- Choose between two cleaning modes for the right power where you need it.
- Motorbar cleaner head deep cleans all floor types. De-tangles wrapped long hair and pet hair as you clean.
The US product page lists a price of $1,199.99, a 14.5lb robot, dimensions of 14.6 by 14.7 inches, a height of 4.3 inches, an 18,000Pa suction figure, a 3-hour charge time and a 0.81-gallon dry bin. UK specifications, bundles, warranty terms and availability may differ. The page has also shown conflicting stock messages, so availability should be checked immediately before purchase.
The dock does most of the work—but not all of it
The dock can empty dry debris, wash the roller, refill water, dry the roller and recharge the robot. The MyDyson app handles mapping, schedules, cleaning modes, no-go zones, reports and live tracking. Dyson says AI processing takes place locally rather than relying on cloud-stored images.
That is a strong automation package, but it creates new dependencies. You need room for a large dock, a suitable place for water and waste handling, reliable mapping and a home that is reasonably clear of cables, socks, toys and other obstacles. You may still need to empty containers, clean sensors, inspect the roller and deal with residue or blockages.
What the AI claims do not prove
Stain recognition may vary with lighting, reflective or patterned floors and the type of spill. More passes may improve a stubborn patch, but they can also slow the robot’s overall coverage. Object recognition does not guarantee perfect avoidance, and local image processing is a privacy benefit—not evidence that stain cleaning will be better.
The available evidence makes Spot+Scrub the most exciting-looking machine, not a proven universal winner. The reviewer’s recommendation followed a demonstration, not a documented long-term home test against competing robot vacuums.
Choose Spot+Scrub Ai if: you want the maximum available automation, have mixed floors, can accommodate the dock and are comfortable paying a premium even if the stain-recognition benefit is less transformative than advertised.
Look elsewhere if: your home is cluttered, space is tight, your floors are unsuitable for wet cleaning or value matters more than convenience.
Rank #4
- POWERFUL SUCTION FOR CARPET & HARD FLOORS: Clean carpets and hardwood floors with strong multi-surface suction. This lightweight upright vacuum cleaner lifts dirt, debris, and pet hair for a complete home clean.
- LIFT-AWAY FUNCTIONALITY FOR ABOVE-FLOOR CLEANING: Detach the pod to clean stairs, furniture, and more—attach the upholstery or crevice tools to clean dust and debris from baseboards, curtains, blinds, tight spaces and other surfaces.
- PERFECT FOR PET HAIR CLEANUP: Powerful suction and a specialized upholstery tool removes pet hair from carpets, furniture, and stairs with ease—ideal for homes with pets and everyday messes.
- HEPA FILTER WITH ANTI-ALLERGEN COMPLETE SEAL: Advanced HEPA vacuum technology traps dust and allergens* inside the vacuum, helping deliver a cleaner home environment. *Allergens refer to non-living matter.
- SWIVEL STEERING FOR EASY MANEUVERABILITY: Navigate tight spaces, corners, and around furniture with ease using smooth swivel steering for effortless control across floors.
How the three machines compare
| Product | Cleaning method | Best for | Main advantage | Main drawback |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| PencilVac | Manual dry cordless vacuum | Quick daily cleaning and tight storage | Extremely slim and easy to grab | No wet cleaning; limited independent performance evidence |
| Clean+Wash Hygiene | Manual wet-and-dry floor cleaner | Hard-floor homes with frequent spills | Collects liquid and dry debris together | Manual operation and unsuitable for carpets |
| Spot+Scrub Ai | Autonomous vacuum and mop | Mixed-floor homes prioritising automation | Mapping, stain-focused cleaning and automated dock care | Very expensive, space-hungry and app-dependent |
Which Dyson should you buy?
For a small apartment
Pick PencilVac if you need a compact dry vacuum and mostly clean up small messes yourself. Spot+Scrub may reduce daily work, but its dock and price are difficult to justify where space is limited.

Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →For mostly hard floors and frequent spills
Pick Clean+Wash Hygiene. It is purpose-built for the job and costs far less than the robot. Keep a separate vacuum for carpets, stairs and upholstery.
For mixed floors and hands-off cleaning
Pick Spot+Scrub Ai only if unattended cleaning is your priority and the price is acceptable. It should supplement, not eliminate, manual cleaning of stairs, furniture, corners and heavily soiled areas.
For pets and children
Clean+Wash Hygiene makes more sense when the recurring problem is wet mess on hard floors. PencilVac is the simpler choice for dry hair and crumbs. Spot+Scrub is potentially convenient, but clutter, bowls, toys and cables can reduce the benefit of robot cleaning.
For carpet-heavy homes
None of these is an obvious single-machine answer. PencilVac needs independent carpet testing before being recommended as a deep-cleaning replacement. Clean+Wash Hygiene is not for carpets, while Spot+Scrub’s carpet claims are Dyson’s specifications rather than independent comparative results.

Should you consider an older Dyson instead?
Buyers who simply want a conventional cordless vacuum should also check Dyson’s established range, including the V12 Detect Slim, V15 Detect and Gen5detect. Promotional pricing can change their value substantially. The V15s Detect Submarine is relevant to shoppers seeking a Dyson vacuum with wet-cleaning capability, although the new products use different designs and should not be assumed superior without current independent testing.
Likewise, established robot-and-mop brands such as Roborock, Dreame, Narwal, Eufy and Ecovacs, plus manual wet-and-dry machines from Tineco, Bissell, Shark and Dreame, may offer different prices and feature balances. A fair “best value” verdict requires current regional prices and independent test results; the available evidence does not prove that Dyson outperforms all of them.
What to check before buying
- Confirm the model, bundle, price and stock status for your country.
- Check whether your flooring is approved for wet cleaning.
- Measure the available space for Spot+Scrub’s dock.
- Price replacement rollers, filters, cleaning solution and batteries where applicable.
- Understand what maintenance remains after a self-cleaning cycle.
- Check warranty, repair and return terms; for example, Dyson’s US Spot+Scrub page lists a two-year limited warranty and qualifying 30-day direct-purchase returns.
- Do not treat “up to” runtime, suction increases or stain-pass counts as guaranteed results in your home.
Verdict
Spot+Scrub Ai is the standout if your definition of “best” is the most advanced automation. It combines vacuuming, mopping, mapping and stain-focused behaviour in one expensive system, but its performance claims still need to be separated from independently demonstrated results.
For most buyers, the smarter choice depends on the mess they actually have: PencilVac for convenient dry cleaning or Clean+Wash Hygiene for manual wet-and-dry hard-floor cleaning. The three products should not be ranked as direct rivals because they are fundamentally different floorcare tools.
