What the 38mm specification actually measures
Dyson’s China homepage describes a “38毫米机身直径”—a 38mm body diameter: Dyson China homepage. This is the width of the slim cylindrical main body, not the complete cleaner head, wand, dock or the vacuum’s total height. The product page separately says its rotating soft-bristle crevice combination tool can enter gaps as narrow as 38mm. Those two measurements should not be treated as the same physical part.
The machine is also designed to clean beneath furniture as low as 75mm. That combination of a narrow body and low-clearance access favors quick, targeted cleaning and maneuverability, particularly on hard floors.
140,000 rpm: reported motor figure, not a complete performance rating
Launch coverage describes a Hyperdymium motor turning at up to 140,000 rpm and calls it Dyson’s smallest and fastest vacuum motor. Dyson’s accessible China page uses “fastest vacuum motor” language but does not expose the 140,000-rpm number in its text. It is therefore more accurate to call 140,000 rpm a reported launch specification.

Motor speed is not the same as suction, pickup, battery life or carpet performance. A high rpm figure cannot by itself establish how well Pencilvac removes embedded dirt, nor can it be used as a fair standalone comparison with another vacuum’s motor.

Cleaner head, hair handling and edge cleaning
Dyson’s official description centers on a four-cone omnidirectional cleaner head. Four conical brush rollers are intended to reduce long-hair tangling, move in multiple directions and clean to edges with a claimed zero-millimeter edge design. Optical detection operates in both directions, according to the product page.
Dyson’s footnote describes a specific third-party test: 100 strands of 60cm hair were placed on hard flooring and cleaned for four passes in Boost mode, with no long hair wrapped around the conical rollers. That is evidence for the stated test setup—not a guarantee for every pet coat, thread, damp hair, floor or debris load. Secondary coverage calls the system “Fluffycones” and adds dual-motor detail; those descriptions should be treated as reported terminology unless confirmed in product documentation: Dyson’s test and head description.
For pet owners, the package also includes an anti-tangle spiral tool. It may be useful for localized hair pickup, but the published test does not establish performance on short fur or heavily shedding homes.
Dust compression, emptying and filtration
The reported 0.08L bin is small beside many full-size cordless sticks. Dyson says an air-compression system can compress soft, fluffy debris by five times, based on internal testing. A piston-style mechanism then pushes compressed debris into the trash, reducing the need to reach into the bin. Compression can make a small container more practical, but it does not remove the likelihood of frequent emptying during a large cleanup.

Dyson claims sealed dual filtration that captures 99.99% of particles down to 0.3 microns. The claim was tested by SGS in a U.S. laboratory under ASTM F1977-22, in Boost mode. It is a controlled filtration claim, not a medical or allergy-treatment promise, and it should not be generalized to every operating mode or household condition.
Runtime, controls and everyday use
Battery and charging
Launch coverage reports up to 30 minutes in Eco mode. The available material does not establish Boost-mode runtime, which can be substantially shorter on cordless vacuums. Dyson states that a full charge takes 3.5 hours and advises completing the first charge before initial use; charging stops automatically when full.
Display and app
An LCD shows the selected operating mode and remaining runtime. Pencilvac connects to the MyDyson app for settings and maintenance guidance, and the machine can display a filter-cleaning reminder. Dyson gives monthly filter cleaning as a typical interval, subject to the machine’s reminder and use conditions.
Conversion and attachments
The vacuum converts to handheld mode. Dyson positions it for hard floors, access beneath low furniture, 38mm gaps with the rotating soft-bristle crevice tool, edge and corner work, and pet-hair cleaning with the spiral tool. Secondary reporting says the launch bundle included one main cleaner head, two precision tools and a magnetic wall dock; confirm bundle contents at purchase because packages can vary.
