Overview

Dalux is a collection of digital construction products built around a 3D BIM visualization engine. Its stated scope runs from design through asset operation, with tools covering model review, project information, site work, tendering, and facilities management. The product range includes BIM Viewer, Dalux Box, Tender, Dalux Field, InfraField, Dalux FM, and Handover.

The free entry points are BIM Viewer and Field Basic. BIM Viewer is for reviewing models and drawings; Field Basic adds model uploads and site-task workflows. Both are subject to a free-use cap of three active projects or buildings, while invited users are unlimited. Dalux was founded in 2005 and is headquartered at Lyngbyvej 2, 2100 København Ø, Denmark.

Dalux says its products serve contractors, developers, owners, engineers, tradespeople, and architects across construction and the built environment. For homeowners planning work, the practical interest is likely to be how a contractor or project team shares and coordinates construction information, rather than a dedicated homeowner planning product.

Key features

Model and drawing review

The free BIM Viewer supports native BIM, IFC, and drawings. Its listed capabilities include viewing models, measuring, filtering, and adding comments. That makes it a defined starting point for teams that need to inspect project information and discuss it in context without beginning with a paid product.

Site tasks

Field Basic supports 3D model uploads, site tasks, task assignment, and mobile access. Dalux lists unlimited tasks for the free punch-list tool, although the free-use terms still limit the account to three active projects or buildings. This distinction matters for contractors considering a no-cost trial of day-to-day task workflows: task volume is not the stated cap, but the number of active projects or buildings is.

Connections and custom workflows

Dalux lists plugins for construction design software, connections among its own products, and an API for custom workflows and dashboards. Its help center names plugins for Revit, Navisworks, Tekla, and Archicad, with supported software versions specified. The API supports GET, POST, and PATCH requests. Using it requires a company license and an API key obtained from a Dalux Customer Success Manager, so API access is not presented as an unrestricted free feature.

Security and support

Dalux says it maintains an ISO/IEC 27001-certified information security management system and holds ISO/IEC 27701 certification. Its general terms describe online training and support for appointed Super Users by phone or email. Phone support has weekday hours, and Dalux aims to respond to email within 24 hours on working days. These support arrangements are described for appointed Super Users, rather than as a promise of direct support to every invited user.

Pricing

Dalux uses a freemium model and lists a free plan and free trial. The free options and paid-product pricing stated in the available plan information are:

Option	Price	Scope and limits
Field Basic	0.00 USD per free	Free punch-list tool with unlimited tasks; free-use terms allow up to 3 active projects or buildings.
BIM Viewer	0.00 USD per free	Free BIM viewing and commenting; free-use terms allow up to 3 active projects or buildings.
Paid Dalux products	Price not listed	Pricing is not stated on the product pages; contact Dalux or request a demo.

The project or building limit applies to free access to BIM Viewer or Field Basic under Dalux’s noncommercial-use terms. Those terms allow unlimited invited users, so the stated restriction concerns active projects or buildings, not the number of people invited.

Platforms

Dalux lists Android, iOS, web, Windows, and API availability. Dalux Mobile is supported on iOS 16.0 and Android 11.0 or higher. Dalux Desktop is a Windows application intended to provide the browser’s features with improved performance, particularly for 3D graphics. The API is an integration route for custom workflows, but requires a company license and an API key.

Who it's for

Dalux’s stated audience spans contractors, developers, owners, engineers, tradespeople, and architects. A residential contractor may find Field Basic relevant for assigning site tasks and working with uploaded 3D models, while BIM Viewer addresses model and drawing review. The broader product range also includes tendering and facilities-management tools, although the listed information does not establish which paid features or plan would suit a particular residential project.

Homeowners comparing contractor software can ask whether the builder uses Dalux to share project models, comments, or site tasks, and whether the work would fit within the free-use project limit. Dalux is described as construction-lifecycle software, not as a consumer budgeting or home-design tool.

Pros and cons

Pros

Two named free entry products cover model review and basic site-task workflows.
Field Basic lists unlimited tasks, with the free-use restriction focused on up to three active projects or buildings.
Mobile, browser, and Windows options support use across devices and work settings.
Plugin support and an API provide routes for connecting design software and building custom workflows.

Cons

Prices for paid Dalux products are not listed in the stated product-page information.
Free access to BIM Viewer or Field Basic is limited to three active projects or buildings.
API use requires a company license and an API key from a Dalux Customer Success Manager.
Mobile support requires iOS 16.0 or Android 11.0 or higher.

Alternatives

Teams comparing options can also review Autodesk Construction Cloud, Trimble Viewpoint Vista, Knowify, Buildxact, Oracle Primavera Cloud, InEight, HCSS, and JobTread. These are options to compare, not a claim that they share Dalux’s product scope or pricing. For a broader category list, see Construction management software.

Verdict

Dalux is worth considering when a construction team needs BIM review alongside field-task workflows and wants to begin with a free option. Its strongest defined entry points are the BIM Viewer’s model and drawing tools and Field Basic’s task assignment and mobile access. The key boundary is clear: free-use terms cap active projects or buildings at three, while paid-product prices are not listed. Contractors evaluating it for ongoing or larger workloads should confirm product pricing and fit with Dalux; homeowners can ask their builder whether Dalux is part of the project’s model-review or site-coordination process.
