Most Hisense TV problems come from power, input selection, HDMI connections, network settings, software, accessories, or hardware—not from one universal defect. Start by testing the TV’s own Home screen, then isolate one input, app, cable, or accessory at a time. Use the least destructive fix first, and check your warranty before opening the set or buying replacement parts.
Start here: the safe universal reset
- Turn off the TV.
- Disconnect HDMI, USB, antenna, optical, Ethernet, and other accessories.
- Unplug the TV from the wall for at least 60 seconds.
- Plug it directly into a known-working wall outlet.
- Turn it on using the TV’s physical power button.
- Test the Home screen or built-in menu before reconnecting devices.
- Reconnect accessories one at a time.
This is a diagnostic soft reset, not proof that failing hardware has been repaired.

Identify your Hisense TV before troubleshooting
Hisense sells TVs using several platforms, including Roku TV, Google TV, Android TV, Fire TV, VIDAA, XClass, and older proprietary systems. Menu names and reset procedures differ, so do not assume a Google TV path applies to a Roku or Fire TV.

- Whether the problem affects built-in apps, live TV, every HDMI input, one device, or the Home screen.
- Whether the problem began after a firmware update, power outage, new soundbar, console, app installation, or move.
- Whether the TV is still covered by the manufacturer’s or retailer’s warranty.
Hisense manuals consistently recommend checking power, input, cables, volume, network connections, antenna connections, restarting, and resetting before assuming a hardware failure. See the Hisense quick-start troubleshooting guide.
Hisense TV will not turn on
- Test the wall outlet with another device.
- Make sure the power cord is firmly inserted.
- Disconnect every external device.
- Unplug the TV for at least 60 seconds.
- Press the TV’s physical power button, not only the remote.
- Replace the remote’s batteries and try again.
A standby light varies by model and does not prove that the panel or main board is functioning. A TV that clicks, repeatedly restarts, shows its logo and then reboots, or ignores both the remote and physical controls may have a power-supply, main-board, or other hardware problem.
Do not open the television yourself unless you are qualified. Internal power components can retain dangerous voltages. Smoke, a burning smell, visible electrical damage, or a failure after a surge should be treated as a safety and warranty issue.
Black screen or sound without a picture
If the TV menu is visible
If the Home screen appears but an HDMI source is black, the TV is probably receiving a source, cable, or handshake problem rather than having a completely failed display.
- Press Input and select the correct source.
- Confirm that the source device is powered on.
- Reconnect the HDMI cable at both ends.
- Try another HDMI port and a known-good cable.
- Restart both the TV and source device.
- Temporarily set the source to 1080p at 60 Hz.
- Test a built-in app or the Home screen.
Wrong inputs, unsupported resolution or refresh-rate settings, HDCP issues, HDR handshakes, and faulty cables can all produce a black HDMI picture.
If the Home screen is also black
Press Home, Menu, or Input. Disconnect all external devices and perform the universal reset above. If the TV reacts to controls but remains dark, a flashlight test can provide a clue: in a dark room, shine a flashlight close to the screen while the TV is on. A faint image may indicate a backlight problem. This test is not conclusive; the fault could also involve the main board, power board, panel, or software.
If a menu briefly appears and disappears, suspect software, overheating, the main board, or the backlight system. Persistent failure across the Home screen and every input is a reason to contact Hisense before attempting a repair.
Independent accelerated testing by RTINGS recorded backlight failures in specific Hisense U7G, H8G, and A6H units and a no-longer-powers-on failure in an A6G. That is model-specific test evidence, not a failure rate for all Hisense televisions.

No sound or sound is too quiet
- Raise the TV volume and confirm that mute is off.
- Check the volume on the cable box, console, Blu-ray player, or streaming device.
- Set audio output temporarily to the TV’s internal speakers.
- Disconnect optical, HDMI ARC/eARC, Bluetooth, and USB audio equipment.
- Restart the TV and test a built-in app and another HDMI source.
For a soundbar or receiver, connect it to the HDMI port labeled ARC or eARC. Confirm the soundbar’s input, enable HDMI-CEC and ARC/eARC if those options exist, and temporarily set digital audio output to PCM. Restart the TV and audio device with both disconnected from power.
Once basic sound works, you can test passthrough and higher-quality formats again. Audio support varies by model; one Hisense manual, for example, warns about particular DTS CD bitstreams. Do not generalize that limitation to every Hisense TV.
Wi-Fi will not connect or streaming keeps buffering
First determine whether the problem is the TV or the internet connection. If no device in the home connects, restart the router or contact the internet provider. If other devices work, troubleshoot the TV:
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems- Restart the TV and router.
- Recheck the Wi-Fi password.
- Forget the network and reconnect.
- Test both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz networks if available.
- Move the router away from obstructions and interference.
- Use Ethernet temporarily, if the TV supports it.
- Check for a TV firmware update.
- If only one app fails, update, reinstall, or clear that app where the platform allows it.
A streaming failure may come from weak Wi-Fi, router compatibility, DNS or ISP problems, an app outage, low TV storage, firmware, or an aging smart-TV platform. A faster internet plan will not fix a defective network adapter or crashed app.
Hisense recommends checking the router’s internet connection and relocating it when the wireless signal is weak. See the Hisense TV manual troubleshooting section.
Apps crash or the TV is slow
- Restart the TV.
- Check the network connection.
- Update the TV firmware and the affected app.
- Remove and reinstall the app if supported.
- Remove unused apps and check available storage if the platform exposes it.
- Test the service through an external streaming device.
Smart-TV responsiveness varies by model, operating system, firmware, app load, and storage. A Roku, Apple TV, Google TV, or Fire TV device can bypass a slow built-in interface, but it cannot repair a failed panel, backlight, power board, or HDMI port.
Firmware update failed or the TV is stuck after updating
Use the official Hisense firmware page for the correct region and exact model. The page uses the serial number to locate the appropriate download.
- Do not install firmware for a similar-looking model.
- Keep the TV on stable power during an update.
- Do not unplug it while the update is in progress.
- If an update fails, restart the TV and check the model-specific recovery instructions.
- Contact Hisense before attempting USB recovery.
A problem that begins after an update is associated with the update in time, but that alone does not prove the update caused it. Power interruption, corrupted storage, or an unrelated board failure can create similar symptoms.

Remote control does not work
- Replace both batteries and check their orientation.
- Remove objects blocking the TV’s infrared receiver.
- Clean the remote’s front window.
- Power-cycle the TV.
- Re-pair the remote if it uses Bluetooth.
- Test the TV’s physical buttons.
- Use the platform’s official mobile remote app if the TV and phone are already on the same network.
If the TV has never connected to Wi-Fi, a phone app may not be useful. Use the physical controls or buy a replacement matched to the exact model and operating system. Hisense’s common TV questions page lists remote and reset alternatives.
HDMI, gaming, and PC problems
For “No signal,” flicker, intermittent picture, or a black screen when 4K, HDR, VRR, or 120 Hz is enabled:
- Test the source on another display if possible.
- Test another source on the same Hisense HDMI port.
- Try another HDMI port and cable.
- Disable HDR, VRR, 4K/120 Hz, or deep-color settings temporarily.
- Set the source to 1080p/60 Hz.
- Re-enable advanced features one at a time.
- Restart both devices.
CEC can also cause unwanted input switching or remote conflicts. Disable it temporarily if the TV changes inputs unexpectedly.

Lines, flicker, dead pixels, or discoloration
Test the TV menu and several sources. A problem visible only in one app or input may be software or signal-related. A fixed vertical or horizontal line across the Home screen and every source is more consistent with panel or display-driver hardware. Damage after impact or pressure is especially concerning.
Clouding, dirty-screen effect, blooming, and uneven brightness can be panel characteristics rather than repairable faults. Try another picture mode and temporarily disable motion or backlight features, but do not press or massage the panel.
Photograph or record the problem in the TV menu and on multiple inputs. Persistent lines, large dark areas, or severe discoloration generally justify a warranty assessment; a factory reset is unlikely to repair a damaged panel.

“No signal” does not automatically mean the tuner is defective. Check the antenna cable, the correct antenna input, any splitter or amplifier, and the antenna’s position. Reconnect loose cables and rescan channels.
On some models, channel scanning is under a path such as Settings > Channels & Inputs > Channels > Manual Scan. The exact route varies by model and operating system. Hisense’s 65U6H manual illustrates one model-specific channel and network menu.

When to factory-reset a Hisense TV
Use a factory reset only after restarting, updating, reconnecting, and testing simpler fixes. It is reasonable when apps and menus remain corrupted, the Home screen repeatedly crashes, or you are clearing personal data before selling the TV.
Before resetting, record streaming logins, Wi-Fi details, picture and sound settings, HDMI labels, antenna channels, parental-control information, and calibration settings. A reset removes apps and personal preferences.
Reset procedures vary. Hisense’s U.S. FAQ describes a physical reset button on some Roku or Android TVs, remote-based procedures on some older sets, and menu routes such as Support > Self Diagnosis > Reset on certain models. Confirm the procedure in the manual for your exact TV. Do not enter undocumented service-menu codes; they can change panel, region, calibration, or hardware settings.
Warranty, repair, or replacement?
Contact Hisense or the retailer before opening the TV when it is within warranty, will not power on after basic checks, is stuck in a boot loop, has a persistent display defect, or appears to have failed during a firmware update. Keep your receipt, model and serial numbers, photos of the fault, and a record of the troubleshooting steps.
Hisense warranty remedies and coverage vary by product, purchase location, and policy version, and proof of purchase may be required. Review the applicable Hisense U.S. warranty information.
Repair is more sensible when the TV is new, under warranty, large or premium, and the screen is intact. Replacement is often more practical when the panel is cracked or permanently lined, the TV is older and out of warranty, parts are unavailable, or the repair estimate approaches the cost of a comparable new TV. There is no universal repair-price threshold because labor, parts, model, and location differ.
Should you buy an external streaming device?
An external player is a reasonable workaround when built-in apps are slow, unsupported, or unreliable and the TV still displays its Home screen and accepts HDMI input. Options include Roku, Apple TV 4K, Google TV Streamer, Fire TV, and onn. devices. Match the device to your ecosystem, required formats, Ethernet needs, and budget. Prices change, so verify current pricing on the manufacturer’s site.

A streaming stick will not fix no power, a failed backlight, a bad HDMI port, a damaged panel, or a TV that cannot display its own menus. Similarly, a replacement remote helps only when the television itself still responds; a soundbar helps weak speakers but not a failed audio board or ARC/eARC port.
The practical rule: if the fault affects one app or input, isolate that app, source, cable, or accessory. If it affects the Home screen, every input, or the TV’s ability to power on, stop treating it as a simple settings problem and evaluate warranty or hardware service.
