Can the Roborock Qrevo Curv Self-Rise Over Obstacles? What It Can—and Can’t—Cross

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Yes—but only in a specific sense. The Roborock Qrevo Curv uses the company’s AdaptiLift chassis to raise and adjust its body while crossing certain thresholds and floor transitions. Roborock advertises up to 3 cm for a standard threshold and up to 4 cm for a complex double-layer threshold.

That does not make it a stair-climbing robot or a machine that can drive over arbitrary household objects. The shape, surface, approach angle and landing space still determine whether a particular transition is passable.

How the Qrevo Curv raises itself

“Self-rise” describes chassis movement, not legs or a permanent increase in the robot’s height. The Qrevo Curv remains a wheeled robot, but its AdaptiLift system can adjust the chassis around its independently controlled wheels.

According to Roborock’s product specifications, the complete chassis can rise by up to 10 mm, while individual sections can be adjusted separately. The system can also automatically lift the omnidirectional wheel as the robot approaches a threshold. This helps the wheels maintain contact while the body gains clearance over a raised transition.

The edge-adaptive roller reaches corners, chair legs, and edges with ease for 100% sweeping, using 15N pressure and 220RPM rotation for a deep, consistent clean.
  • 𝟐𝟎,𝟎𝟎𝟎 𝐏𝐚 𝐏𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐫𝐟𝐮𝐥 𝐒𝐮𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 & 𝐓𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐥𝐞-𝐅𝐫𝐞𝐞 𝐃𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐠𝐧: This robot vacuum and mop delivers 20,000 Pa suction power to lift dust, crumbs, and pet hair from carpets and hard floors. The Dual Zero-Tangle System ensures 0% hair entanglement rate (certified by SGS) and combines dual short rollers with an upgraded long-bristle side brush to reduce hair wrap, making it ideal for households with pets or long hair.
  • 𝐀𝐈-𝐏𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐝 𝐃𝐢𝐫𝐓𝐞𝐜𝐭 & 𝐃𝐫𝐲-𝐰𝐞𝐭 𝐒𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐠𝐲 𝐂𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠: Equipped with intelligent sensors, the Qrevo Curv 2 Flow robotic vacuum identifies different mess types and adjusts cleaning in real time. It boosts suction for dust and debris, while switching to mop-only mode for liquid spills such as ketchup, coffee, cola, and mud, lifting the side and main brushes to prevent spreading dirt and deliver consistent results on every surface.
  • 𝐒𝐦𝐚𝐫𝐭 𝐂𝐚𝐫𝐩𝐞𝐭 𝐒𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐠𝐲: With one tap, select the ideal carpet mode. The robot automatically increases suction and lifts the mop up to 15 mm to protect carpets while cleaning. The innovative Roller Shield deploys at the same time, forming a barrier that helps separate dry and wet zones for a more efficient routine.
  • 𝐑𝐞𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐀𝐈 𝐎𝐛𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐜𝐥𝐞 𝐑𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐠𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧: Qrevo Curv 2 Flow identifies over 200 object types day or night. Structured light sensors help this robot vacuum and mop combo navigate around cables, toys, and furniture legs, while PreciSense LiDAR mapping creates real-time 3D layouts and supports up to 4 floor plans for seamless multi-level cleaning.

This is different from lifting the brushes or mops. Brush and mop lifting changes how the cleaning components interact with a floor, carpet or wet surface; AdaptiLift changes the robot’s chassis position so it can negotiate certain changes in floor height.

The advertised height limits

Transition Roborock’s advertised limit Important qualification
Standard threshold Up to 3 cm Not a guarantee for every shape or surface
Complex double-layer threshold Up to 4 cm Applies to the manufacturer’s described configuration
Chassis elevation Up to 10 mm Refers to chassis movement, not total obstacle height

The 3-cm and 4-cm figures should be treated as upper-bound manufacturer specifications, not as a promise that the robot can cross any obstacle of those heights. A sharply vertical edge may be harder to cross than a rounded or sloped transition. Traction, the robot’s approach angle and the amount of flat floor on the far side can also matter.

What it is designed to cross

  • 𝐈𝐧𝐝𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐲-𝐅𝐢𝐫𝐬𝐭 𝐀𝐝𝐚𝐩𝐭𝐢𝐋𝐢𝐟𝐭 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐬: The Roborock AdaptiLift Chassis technology brings a new level of versatility, allowing the robot to lift its entire chassis to 4cm max or adjust individual sections—front, rear, left, or right—based on the terrain. Whether tackling high thresholds or effortlessly maneuvering around furniture legs, it adapts seamlessly to your home's layout, enabling smooth, uninterrupted cleaning. (roborock was the first in the robot vacuum industry to mass-produce a product featuring a liftable chassis system with three-wheel control, officially launching this technology in Q3 2024.)
  • Ordinary door thresholds;
  • Some double-layer or stepped thresholds;
  • Sunken-floor transitions;
  • Medium-pile carpet; and
  • Some long-pile carpet situations.

The robot may be a useful fit where the main problem is a raised transition between rooms rather than a completely level floor plan. However, Roborock says the appropriate mid-to-long-pile carpet-cleaning setting must be enabled manually in the app. Carpet configuration is therefore a separate issue from automatic threshold lifting.

Loose rugs, folded edges and thin mats deserve particular caution. Even when the underlying threshold is within the advertised height, a flexible rug can move, bunch up or become trapped under the wheels.

What it should not be expected to cross

The Qrevo Curv is not a general-purpose obstacle-climbing machine. There is no evidence in the supplied specifications that it can climb a normal staircase or move independently between floors.

Do not assume it will safely overcome:

  • Random objects such as toys, shoes or pet bowls;
  • Cables and cords;
  • Pet waste;
  • Unstable or loose mats;
  • Very sharp, slippery or tall vertical steps; or
  • Transitions with little room for the robot to land and continue.

A second step can also make a nominally low threshold unsuitable if its width, depth or geometry falls outside the arrangement Roborock used for its double-layer claim. A dark or sharply contrasting transition may additionally be interpreted cautiously by cliff sensors. These are reasons to test the actual installation rather than relying on height alone.

Threshold crossing is not obstacle avoidance

AdaptiLift and obstacle recognition solve different problems:

  • AdaptiLift adjusts the chassis to improve clearance over a supported floor transition.
  • Obstacle avoidance attempts to detect and avoid objects in the robot’s path.

Strong threshold performance does not imply equally strong object detection. In its independent review, RTINGS reported that the Qrevo Curv performed very well when climbing thresholds but found its obstacle-avoidance performance disappointing. In practical terms, a robot may cross a doorway successfully and still fail to reliably avoid a cable, sock, small toy or other low object.

How to check a threshold in a real home

Before buying the robot specifically for a floor transition, measure and inspect the route it must take.

  1. Measure the highest point. Measure the vertical height from the lower floor to the top of the threshold, not just the average height.
  2. Identify the configuration. Note whether it is a single threshold, a double-layer transition or a series of steps.
  3. Measure the depth and width. Check how far the raised section extends and whether there is flat landing space beyond it.
  4. Check the approach. A direct approach is preferable to an angled approach that may prevent the wheels from engaging evenly.
  5. Remove loose material. Clear cords, toys, loose rugs and folded mat edges before testing.
  6. Test both directions. If the robot must travel back and forth, crossing one way is not enough.
  7. Confirm docking. The robot should still be able to return to its dock after crossing.

Roborock’s advertised figures do not replace a supervised test of the specific threshold. Let the robot map the home normally first, then observe the transition while you are present. Stop if it repeatedly rams the edge, spins its wheels or becomes wedged. A physical threshold reducer or small ramp may be more dependable than expecting software or chassis movement to solve a poor transition.

Common failure scenarios to watch for

A lower-than-maximum threshold can still be problematic if it is slippery, has a sharp vertical face, offers insufficient clearance on the far side or forces an awkward turn. Other possible complications include a mat being pulled beneath the wheels, the robot crossing in one direction but failing to return, or the transition being physically passable while the mapping system still treats the adjoining room as inaccessible.

Check the exact Roborock model

The product name in this article is Qrevo Curv, not “Qrevo Curve.” Roborock also sells related products such as the Qrevo CurvX and newer Qrevo Curv 2 models. They should not be assumed to have identical specifications.

For example, the separate Qrevo CurvX listing also advertises an AdaptiLift chassis but lists a different 22,000 Pa suction figure. Those specifications belong to the CurvX, not the original Qrevo Curv. Buyers should match the model name and regional product page before comparing dimensions or features.

Is the Qrevo Curv a good choice for uneven floors?

It is a credible option when your primary problem is a moderate threshold or room-to-room floor transition within Roborock’s advertised limits. The liftable chassis is a meaningful difference from ordinary robot vacuums that must approach every transition with a fixed body height.

It is a poor reason to buy the robot if you need it to climb stairs, conquer arbitrary objects or eliminate the need to clear cables and loose items. The most accurate description is that the Qrevo Curv can automatically raise its chassis to cross certain thresholds—not that it can climb obstacles generally.
