Best overall: the Blueair ComfortPure 3-in-1 T20i is the strongest all-around candidate if you want one large-room appliance that purifies, heats and circulates cooling air. It is not an air conditioner: its fan makes skin feel cooler but does not remove heat from the room. For a small bedroom or office, consider the Blueair ComfortPure T10i. For wide oscillation, app control and personal airflow, consider the Dyson Purifier Cool PC1. If clean-air delivery per dollar matters most, a conventional high-CADR purifier paired with a separate fan is usually the better design.

What an air-purifier-plus-fan actually does
These appliances combine particle filtration with moving air. They do not provide refrigerated cooling, lower the room’s actual temperature or dehumidify unless a separate function is explicitly included.
Purifier fan
A unit such as the Dyson PC1 filters air while providing unheated airflow.

Purifier fan heater
The Blueair ComfortPure T10i and T20i add electric heat to filtration and fan circulation.
Large-room purifier with directional airflow
The Dyson Big+Quiet Formaldehyde is primarily a large purifier that projects and circulates air; it should not be treated as a conventional personal fan without checking its controls and airflow behavior.
What pollutants can it address?
- Particles: Properly sized units can reduce airborne dust, pollen, smoke particles, pet dander and some biological particles.
- Odors and gases: Activated carbon can help, but performance depends on carbon mass, pollutant, contact time and saturation. A thin carbon layer is not comprehensive VOC control.
- Formaldehyde: Make this claim only for models with documented formaldehyde-specific treatment, such as Dyson’s Formaldehyde line.
- Mold: Filtration can capture airborne spores; it cannot fix moisture or remediate established mold.
- Carbon dioxide: Portable purifiers do not ventilate a room or remove CO₂.
- Viruses: Do not interpret filtration as infection prevention. Blueair says it does not claim to prevent transmission of airborne illnesses on its T20i product page.
Choose by CADR, not the HEPA label alone
Clean Air Delivery Rate (CADR) indicates how quickly a purifier delivers filtered air for a specified particle category. Smoke CADR is particularly useful for fine particles and wildfire smoke. Filter efficiency, sealing, fan airflow, operating speed and runtime also determine whole-room performance.

1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsEstimate air changes per hour (ACH) with:
ACH ≈ CADR × 60 ÷ room volume
Room volume is floor area multiplied by ceiling height. For an eight-foot ceiling, use a conservative smoke-CADR target based on the floor area and verify assumptions in the EPA home air-cleaner guide and its technical summary. Manufacturer room ratings are not interchangeable unless their test basis is the same. An open-plan living room, hall and kitchen may greatly exceed a listed single-room volume.

- The fully sealed filter system combines an Activated carbon filter to remove gases with a HEPA filter that captures 99.97% of microscopic allergens² and pollutants as small as 0.3 microns.¹
- The whole purifier, not just the filtration system, is fully sealed to HEPA H13 grade – so what goes inside, stays inside.³
- Dyson Air Multiplier technology projects over 76 gallons per second of smooth, yet powerful airflow⁷ to cool you in summer.⁶
- Captures 97% of odors such as cooking odors, pet odors and smoke.⁸
- Control and monitor air quality from anywhere using the MyDyson app, or hands-free with compatible voice services.⁵
Best overall: Blueair ComfortPure T20i
The T20i is the clearest one-appliance choice for a room up to Blueair’s approximately 352-square-foot maximum-performance rating. Blueair publishes smoke CADR of 227 cfm, dust CADR of 238 cfm and pollen CADR of 252 cfm, with 24–52 dB noise, 36 W listed consumption and filter life of up to one year depending on use and pollution. Dimensions are 27.4 × 13.6 × 13.6 inches.
Its $599.99 list price and $419.99 promotional price, plus an $89.99 replacement filter, make it a premium purchase. Wildfire smoke, candles, pets, construction dust and continuous high-speed use can shorten filter life. Blueair notes that current CADR and room figures reflect updated Department of Energy standards, so older reviews may differ.
Best for a small room: Blueair ComfortPure T10i
Blueair positions the T10i for small rooms. The observed U.S. prices were $499.99 list and $349.99 promotional, with a $66.99 replacement filter. Confirm the current T10i-specific CADR, room rating, noise and power figures on the current Blueair listing before buying; do not substitute T20i specifications. It is a poor fit for a large open-plan area unless calculations show adequate CADR.

Best Dyson-style option: Dyson Purifier Cool PC1
The PC1 combines a glass HEPA and activated-carbon filter with 10 fan speeds, 350-degree oscillation and MyDyson app control. Dyson lists a 41.3-inch height, 10.4-pound weight and a manufacturer claim of 99.97% capture of particles as small as 0.3 microns. The white model was $549.99; a black/nickel listing showed $449.99 but was out of stock. Those percentages are defined filter-test claims, not a guarantee of immediate whole-room concentration reduction. No independent evidence here supports calling the PC1 the fastest purifier.

When a separate purifier and fan is better
A high-CADR conventional purifier plus a dedicated fan can provide stronger clean-air delivery, more flexible placement, independent operation if one appliance fails and often lower long-term cost. In an RTINGS comparison, the Blueair Blue Signature Large cleaned air faster than the Dyson Big+Quiet Formaldehyde BP04 at maximum speed under that test’s conditions: see the comparison. That result should not be generalized to every room or speed.

Bedroom
Choose verified smoke CADR, low-speed noise and airflow that can reach the bed without an uncomfortable draft. A T10i may suit a genuinely small room; size by volume rather than furniture count.
Home office
Prioritize quiet continuous operation, scheduling and app controls. Personal airflow from a PC1 may be preferable if you sit several feet away.

- Dual-Motor for True Versatility: Cool and purify the air more efficiently by controlling each motor independently. Max out both motors for better performance, use only purification motor for a quiet breeze, or max the fan motor for powerful wind without reducing filter life.
- Multiplied Pure Wind Power: Using two motors instead of one, the DREO fan for bedroom brings ultra-fast 27ft/s airflow up to 40 ft away, covering every inch of your room with pure fresh air.
- Dual True HEPA Filter Electrostatic Filtration: An additional pre filtration layer captures larger particles to extend the filter life, while the main HEPA filter traps 99.9% of airborne particles down to 0.3 μm, including pet dander, pollen, and more
- Multiple Oscillation Options: Bring pure air wherever you are easily with three different oscillation modes including symmetric (0 to 120˚), asymmetric (custom oscillation range), and targeted airflow (moves the oscillating tower fan air outlet where you want in a 120˚ range)
- Smart Control for True Freedom: with the DREO app, you can access your smart tower fan wherever you are and check room temperature and air quality, customize more functions like wind modes, oscillation and even create smart schedules.
Wildfire smoke and allergies
Prioritize smoke CADR, sealed windows during smoke events, continuous operation and available replacement filters. Allergy performance depends on sustained particle removal, not a HEPA grade alone.
Pets
Easy-to-clean intakes and a washable prefilter can matter for hair. Replace the main filter when loaded; do not rely on a purifier to remove settled dander from surfaces.
Odors, VOCs and formaldehyde
Check the quantity and type of carbon and any model-specific gas testing. Formaldehyde treatment must be documented; ordinary particle filtration does not establish VOC removal.
Hot sleepers and winter heating
Fans improve evaporative cooling on skin. Heating mode adds year-round usefulness but can substantially increase electricity use. Neither function replaces air conditioning.
Placement and operation
- Keep intake and outlet openings clear of furniture, curtains and walls.
- Place the unit near—but not directly in—the smoke path from cooking when targeting a source.
- Aim airflow toward the bed or seating area while avoiding an irritating draft.
- Use multiple units when doors and walls isolate rooms.
- Clean prefilters and sensors as the manufacturer directs; monitor filter-life indicators rather than assuming exactly one year.
- Compare low-, medium- and maximum-speed noise. Quiet mode cleans more slowly.
- Check for ionizer or ozone-producing functions and disable them when possible; consult EPA guidance before choosing such a mode.
Three-year cost and safety checks
Estimate total cost as purchase price + replacement filters + electricity + optional subscriptions. Filter life varies with smoke, pets, candles, construction dust and runtime. Check warranty, return policy, cord placement, stability, tip-over protection and hot-air outlet temperature around children and pets. A purifier is not a dehumidifier, medical treatment or mold-remediation service; correct moisture and obtain professional remediation where needed.
Bottom line
Choose the Blueair ComfortPure T20i for a premium large-room appliance that heats, filters and provides a cooling breeze. Choose the T10i for a smaller room after confirming its current specifications. Choose the Dyson PC1 for app control and wide oscillation. Choose a conventional high-CADR purifier plus separate fan for the best purification value. If you need the room itself cooled, buy an air conditioner; no purifier fan here removes heat from the room.
