ArchDaily’s October 9, 2026 feature by Antonia Piñeiro presents six unbuilt proposals for places serving children and young people. The projects range from a Senegalese nursery and a Vietnamese children’s library to a Ukrainian family-style childcare concept. Together, they show how architects are exploring connections among care, learning, play, community life, and nature—without establishing how the designs would perform in use.
Six proposals, six different settings
The projects are concepts rather than completed buildings. Their programs and local contexts differ, so they are best read as a set of design approaches, not as a ranked list or a single model for childhood spaces.

| Project and location | Program and intended users | Design approach described by ArchDaily |
|---|---|---|
| Live Learning Lab / Artem Agekyan Diannah, Sédhiou Region, Senegal |
Nursery for approximately 100 children ages three to six; developed for the 2025 Kaira Looro Architecture Competition. | Classrooms, verandas, gardens, and environmental systems form a continuous learning landscape that connects education with everyday community life. |
| Instituto CMPC — Casa das Crianças / Moove Arquitetos Guaíba, Brazil |
Three-floor multipurpose community facility for children, trainees, staff, and meeting groups. | Ground-floor early-learning rooms, cafeteria, and playground sit below vocational training on the second floor and administrative and meeting spaces on the third. A movie theater is also designed to serve as an auditorium or event space. |
| La BIBLIOTHÈQUE / GF Design Group Singapore Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam |
Children’s library. | Conceived as a “living bamboo forest,” the program combines reading, play, science, technology, making, and social exchange, in dialogue with the existing General Sciences Library, a 1971 building designed by Vietnamese architects Bùi Quang Hanh and Nguyễn Hữu Thiện. |
| Ellipses / Amrita Lakhani Design Studio Wankaner, Gujarat, India |
School campus organized into Playgroup and Main School precincts. | The 3.5-acre site is described as climate-responsive, with outdoor learning and environmental stewardship as priorities; the two precincts take different spatial approaches for different developmental needs. |
| Oltre I margini Youth Center / Mattia Pianezzola Bassano del Grappa, Italy |
Urban regeneration proposal for an existing youth center and surrounding park. | Reorganizes functions, aims to improve accessibility and energy performance, removes incongruous additions, and introduces contemporary extensions within the landscape. Recognizability, sustainability, and flexibility are stated principles. |
| Vorzel Kids House / AVG Group of Companies Ukraine |
Proposed alternative to institutional-style childcare, with small family-type houses where children live alongside foster parents. | Connects a home-like care arrangement to Ukraine’s de-institutionalization reform. Stability and emotional recovery are project aims, not reported outcomes. |
The project-specific figures and descriptions in the table are reported by Piñeiro’s ArchDaily feature; they should not be read as independently verified measurements or evidence of completed work.
How care and community shape the programs
Spaces shared across ages and activities
Guaíba’s institute is the clearest example of a facility intended to serve different groups at different times. Early learning and play occupy the ground floor, while vocational training, administration, and meetings have their own spaces above. The feature says the design team consulted local residents before beginning design work. Its flexible theater-auditorium further suggests a building planned for more than one kind of gathering.

Care as a domestic setting
Vorzel Kids House takes a different approach: instead of organizing care around an institutional-scale facility, the proposal uses smaller family-type homes shared by children and foster parents. The article links this concept to Ukraine’s de-institutionalization reform. It describes intended support for stability and emotional recovery, but supplies no evaluation showing that the proposed arrangement achieves those effects.
Learning beyond the classroom
Live Learning Lab and Ellipses put outdoor space and landscape close to educational activity. In Diannah, verandas, gardens, classrooms, and environmental systems are described as parts of one learning environment. In Wankaner, separate precincts for Playgroup and Main School give the campus distinct spatial responses to different developmental needs. These are place-specific strategies, not evidence of one universal design formula.

Nature, play, and existing buildings
Nature appears across the projects in different forms: gardens and environmental systems at Live Learning Lab; the “living bamboo forest” concept at La BIBLIOTHÈQUE; outdoor learning at Ellipses; and a park setting at Oltre I margini. The feature’s broader description links the proposals to plant life, play, encounter, learning, and safety, but it does not report measured environmental or developmental outcomes.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesThe projects also differ in what they do with their settings. Oltre I margini adapts an existing youth center and its surrounding park, while La BIBLIOTHÈQUE is conceived in relation to an existing library building dating to 1971, according to ArchDaily. Other entries are presented as new facilities or campus concepts. That distinction matters: regeneration must work with existing structures and public space, while new proposals can organize their programs around a different starting point.

What the feature does—and does not—establish
Piñeiro’s ArchDaily article is a project roundup, not a post-occupancy study. It describes proposals, programs, and design intentions, but it does not provide construction status beyond identifying the projects as unbuilt, operational results, measured effects, or independent validation of the stated benefits. Claims about better learning, emotional recovery, energy performance, or community outcomes should therefore be understood as aims or design intentions rather than demonstrated results.
