Apple’s rumored smart-home hub is no longer on track for the originally reported spring 2026 launch. The latest reporting places it between October 2026 and early 2027, with the delay reportedly tied to Apple’s unfinished next-generation Siri. The device is also said to be among Apple’s first new product categories launched with production in Vietnam, while its rumored price remains approximately $350—not a confirmed retail price.
Apple’s reported home hub: current status
Apple has not announced the product, given it an official name or published specifications. Names such as “HomePad,” “Home Hub” and “HomePod Touch” are descriptions used in reporting, not confirmed Apple branding.

What Apple is reportedly building
This is described as more than a larger HomePod. The rumored product would combine a dedicated touchscreen, speaker, camera and Apple Home controls in a purpose-built household interface.

Reported capabilities include:
- Controlling compatible smart-home accessories and automations.
- Showing household information, notifications, apps and controls.
- Supporting FaceTime video calls.
- Recognizing different household members and presenting personalized information.
- Using a more capable, AI-focused version of Siri.
The camera, user recognition and advanced personalization remain reported features, not confirmed specifications. The product may also be offered in a tabletop configuration and a wall-mounted configuration. Those versions could serve different roles: one as a room-based smart speaker with a display, the other as a permanent control panel.
The device would reportedly sit above Apple’s existing home-hub model. Apple’s current platform documentation identifies products such as Apple TV and HomePod as home hubs for supported Apple Home and Matter functions. Apple’s software documentation provides that platform context, but does not confirm this rumored hardware.
Why Siri appears to be the main reason for the delay
The delay is more significant than a routine hardware schedule change because the hub’s purpose reportedly depends on the upgraded Siri. A display can show controls, but Apple appears to be positioning this product around conversational requests, household context and individualized responses.
The reported timeline has changed several times:
- March 2025: Earlier expectations were reportedly pushed back after delays to Apple’s more advanced Siri.
- October 2025: Reporting described a spring 2026 target and an approximate $350 price.
- March 2026: Reports said the hub had been postponed again, potentially until September or later.
- July 2026: New reporting placed the device between October 2026 and early 2027 as part of a broader Apple smart-home push.
These are changing reports rather than Apple commitments. They also make Siri the product’s central risk. If the software is not ready, Apple may delay the hardware, limit launch functionality or release capabilities in stages. A successful device therefore depends less on the existence of a seven-inch screen than on whether Siri can reliably understand household requests and perform the right actions.
Why Vietnam production matters
The reported manufacturing plan is notable because Apple is said to be launching this new product category with production in Vietnam rather than initially centering it in China. The reported plan involves BYD handling final assembly, testing and packaging for the hub and a future tabletop robot.

That does not mean every component will be made in Vietnam. A product’s supply chain can involve components, subassemblies and materials from multiple countries even when final assembly takes place in one location. “Made in Vietnam” in this context should not be treated as proof that Apple has moved its entire supply chain there.
It is also not evidence that Apple is abandoning China. Apple already has Vietnamese production across categories including some iPads, AirPods, Apple Watches and Macs. The significance is that Vietnam would reportedly be used from the beginning of a new product category, rather than becoming an alternative production base only after the product has matured.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsThat could indicate that Apple is building more manufacturing flexibility into product planning. Diversifying earlier may help reduce exposure to production concentration, geopolitical disruption, tariffs and future supply-chain interruptions. It does not guarantee a lower price, faster launch, higher quality or better reliability. Those are separate outcomes.
What could it cost?
The reported target is approximately $350. That figure should be treated as an estimate, not a confirmed price. Apple was reportedly exploring ways to lower the cost, and the final price could differ by country, taxes, configuration or form factor.
At roughly $350, the hub would be expensive for a seven-inch smart display. It would reportedly cost about $50 more than the full-size HomePod under the comparison used in the original reporting. It would also sit above many mainstream Amazon Echo Show and Google Nest Hub products.

Price alone may not explain the product’s intended value. Apple appears to be combining several roles:
Recommended Free Tools
- A dedicated Apple Home controller.
- A smart display for household information.
- A FaceTime device.
- A Siri interface designed for shared household use.
- A possible home hub for supported remote-access and automation features.
That combination could appeal to an Apple-heavy household, but it would not automatically make the product good value. A buyer who needs only voice control may get more practical value from an existing HomePod mini. Someone seeking a general-purpose screen may prefer an iPad.

Apple TV and HomePod
Apple TV and HomePod can already provide home-hub functionality for supported Apple Home features. They remain the lower-friction choice for users who need a home hub now but do not need a permanent touchscreen.
The rumored device could add a more visible interface, but its speaker quality, microphones, multiroom audio behavior and relationship with the full-size HomePod remain unknown. It should not be assumed to replace a HomePod as an audio product.
iPad
An iPad offers a larger, more flexible screen for video calls, media, browsing and general tablet use. It may also work as a household control panel with the right setup. The rumored hub could be more convenient for permanent placement, always-available controls and a built-in speaker base, but it would probably be less versatile away from the home.

Amazon Echo Show and Google Nest Hub
Amazon’s Echo Show range and Google’s Nest Hub products are the obvious smart-display alternatives. They may offer lower-cost entry points and broad compatibility with their respective smart-home platforms. An Apple hub would instead be aimed at households that prioritize Apple devices, Apple services and Apple Home integration.
Current competitor prices should be checked separately because they change by model, promotion and market. The available reporting establishes only that comparable smart displays have generally been positioned below the rumored $350 Apple target.
What remains unknown
- Apple’s final product name and launch date.
- Whether the tabletop and wall-mounted versions will launch together.
- Final display dimensions, resolution, processor and speaker specifications.
- Which Apple Home, Matter and Thread accessories will be supported directly.
- Whether facial or household recognition will be optional, how guests will be handled and where related data will be processed or stored.
- Whether the rumored $350 target applies to every configuration.
- Availability by country and the product’s repair and warranty arrangements.
Compatibility also needs careful interpretation. Matter support does not mean every Zigbee, Z-Wave or proprietary accessory will work directly. Buyers will need to check the specific devices, bridges and protocols in their homes.
Should you wait?
- Need an Apple home hub now: Use or buy a supported Apple TV or HomePod rather than waiting for an unannounced product.
- Need a screen now: Compare an iPad, Amazon Echo Show or Google Nest Hub according to your existing ecosystem and accessory compatibility.
- Want Apple’s dedicated Siri display: Wait for Apple’s announcement, confirmed specifications and independent testing.
- Care most about price: Treat $350 as a reported target, not a guaranteed price, and expect the final value judgment to depend heavily on Siri’s reliability.
The safest buying decision is to avoid purchasing based on the rumored name or assumed feature list. Apple could change the scope, price, configurations or timing before launch.

The larger story
The rumored hub matters for two reasons. As a product, it could give Apple Home users a permanent visual control point that sits between a smart speaker, tablet and home automation panel. As a manufacturing decision, reported Vietnam production would show Apple launching a new category with greater geographic diversification from the outset.
But the more immediate issue is software. Until Apple delivers the new Siri and demonstrates that it can reliably manage a shared household, the manufacturing shift and $350 estimate are secondary to the product’s unresolved purpose. The hub’s launch date, final price and practical value all remain uncertain.
