What changed at Whaleback Golf Course?
The public course in Parkwood has added a new entertainment and dining precinct alongside upgrades to its driving range. The City describes a larger café, new alfresco space and improved accessible facilities; the former alfresco area is now occupied by Tales Bar and Eats, a casual dining venue. Tales Bar and Eats is the new casual dining option in the redeveloped precinct. The City has described a Mediterranean-inspired menu at preview events, but that does not establish the venue’s full current menu or prices. The project also includes a larger café and new alfresco space. Detailed accessibility specifications have not been published in the cited project information.
Driving-range entertainment bays
The completed range has eight catered entertainment bays and 39 upgraded standard bays, according to the City’s opening announcement. These are distinct options: the eight bays are set up for catered entertainment, while the 39 are standard range bays that have been upgraded. When did the new precinct open?
The City’s project page gives 14 September 2026 as the official opening date. On 18 August 2026, the City had said the precinct was due to open the following month; its 22 September announcement subsequently confirmed it was open. Why do reports say both $8 million and $10.6 million?
The figures come from different City and venue statements at different dates and should not be treated as proof of a cost overrun. In June and July 2025, Whaleback Golf Course and the City described an $8 million upgrade or investment in the 2025–2026 budget. In August 2026, the City described the redevelopment as a $10.6 million investment and said it was funded through Whaleback operating budgets. The available announcements do not reconcile the accounting, project stages or scope behind the two figures.
