If your Samsung washer displays 5UD, SUd, Sd, 5d, SUdS, or 5Ud5, it is detecting excess suds—not announcing a failed part. Let the washer pause and clear the foam; Samsung says it should then continue the cycle automatically. To prevent the code from returning, use the detergent type and measured amount specified for your washer and load.
What the Samsung 5UD code means
Samsung groups 5UD and similar-looking displays—including SUd, Sd, 5d, SUdS, and 5Ud5—as an excessive-suds condition. The washer may pause while the foam dissipates, then resume on its own. Samsung notes that the code may flash again at the end of the cycle as a reminder.

Samsung U.S. says the code does not indicate that service is needed; it associates the condition with incorrect detergent use. The display alone is not evidence that a component has failed. Samsung’s error-code guidance covers the U.S. code family.
What to do when the code appears
- Allow the washer to pause. Give the suds time to dissipate and let the cycle continue automatically. Samsung’s code-specific guidance does not call for a reset as the standard first response.
- Check the cycle when it resumes. If the code flashes again at the end, Samsung describes that as a reminder associated with the suds condition.
- Review detergent use before the next load. Confirm the detergent type and amount against the washer manual, dispenser markings, detergent label, and load size.

Measure an appropriate amount
Use the least amount necessary for the load, measure accurately, and do not exceed the dispenser’s MAX line. The appropriate dose depends on the washer instructions, the detergent’s directions, and load size; there is no single dose established for every machine and load.

Samsung Lebanon’s guidance, last updated April 6, 2022, says the washer usually clears the condition itself. For cases where it does not, that regional page suggests an Eco Drum Clean cycle on supported models or a 90°C cotton cycle without detergent or laundry. Those instructions are market- and model-specific, not a universal procedure. Before running a cleaning or high-temperature cycle, check the manual for your exact model and market; do not assume either cycle is available or appropriate. Samsung Lebanon’s error-code guidance provides the regional recommendation.
