On Samsung air conditioners covered by Samsung’s guidance, “CF” is a reminder to clean the indoor air filter and reset the reminder—not, by itself, proof of a mechanical fault. Clean and reinstall the filter, then reset CF using your model’s controls; a common remote sequence is Options > Filter Reset > SET.
What CF means on a Samsung AC
Samsung describes CF as a filter-cleaning reminder or filter-reset indicator. The display alone does not diagnose a separate cooling, electrical, refrigerant, sensor, or mechanical problem. Dust on the indoor filter can restrict air intake and contribute to temperature issues or noise, according to Samsung Latin America support. CF is a prompt to check and clean the filter; it is not a diagnosis of those symptoms.
How to clean the filter safely
Samsung Saudi Arabia’s instructions recommend the following cleaning method. Check your model’s manual first if the filter is not accessible in the way described.

- Slide the indoor filter out of the unit.
- Remove loose dust and debris with a soft brush or vacuum. These are alternative methods; Samsung does not rank one above the other. Use whichever you can handle gently.
- If further washing is needed, soak the filter in water with mild detergent for 30 minutes, then rinse it.
- Let the filter air dry completely in a ventilated area away from direct sunlight. Do not use a hard brush or force, which could damage it.
- Reinstall the filter only when it is fully dry.

How to reset the CF reminder
After cleaning and reinstalling the dry filter, Samsung’s common remote-control procedure is to reset the reminder while the AC is operating:

- Open Options on the remote.
- Use the arrow buttons to select Filter Reset.
- Select SET.
Remote layouts and menu labels can differ by model. If your remote has no Options button, or the steps do not match what you see, use the reset instructions in your product’s user manual. Samsung notes that display designs may vary; see its Latin America filter guidance and Saudi Arabia CF guidance.
How often to clean the filter
Samsung Latin America recommends cleaning the filter every two weeks or when CF appears. Treat that as regional manufacturer guidance, not a universal schedule for every model or household; follow the maintenance interval in your model’s manual if it differs. See Samsung Latin America support.

If CF remains or the AC still has a problem
If CF remains after you have cleaned the filter and followed the correct reset procedure, consult the model-specific manual and contact Samsung support or a qualified service provider. If the unit continues to cool poorly, make unusual noise, or show another code, do not assume CF explains it: the reminder alone cannot identify the cause of a separate issue.
Samsung says inner filters may require cleaning or replacement, but replacement compatibility depends on the exact indoor-unit model. Check the model number and consult Samsung or an authorized parts source before ordering a replacement; there is no universal filter recommendation for all Samsung ACs. Samsung India support
