Two men in their 20s were injured on Saturday 10 May 2025 while working on the performing arts centre construction project at Santa Maria College in Attadale, Western Australia. PerthNow reported on 14 May 2025 that they fell from height after being struck by steel, which caused their elevated work platform to collapse. By that report, both men had already been discharged from hospital. WorkSafe had been notified and was investigating. No final cause had been published at the time.
What was reported about the incident
The incident was reported at about 8 a.m. The sequence described in the coverage is as follows:
- Both workers were struck by steel while working on an elevated work platform.
- The platform then fell over, and the two men fell from height.
- The two men were in their 20s. Their exact ages were not given.
This is the sequence as reported, not an official finding about cause. The regulator’s investigation was still open in the coverage available for this update.

Hospital care and injuries
According to the same report, one man was taken to Royal Perth Hospital. The other was transported under normal road conditions. Both had been discharged by the time of the report. The extent of their injuries was described as unknown, so the coverage does not establish how serious either injury was.
The college’s response
Deputy principal Danielle Spark, writing to the school community, said: “There were no day students or staff on campus at the time.” Her email said boarding students who were on site over the weekend were away from the construction area and were completely safe. The college said it had continued operating normally.

Regulator involvement and what remains unconfirmed
A WorkSafe spokeswoman confirmed that the regulator had been notified and that an investigation was under way. She described the reported event this way:
“The two workers involved were working on elevated work platforms, and they’ve been struck by some of the steel that they were working from, and that’s caused an (elevated work platform) to actually fall over,” she said.
