The Toro 1800 Power Curve, model 38381, is a lightweight, corded, single-stage snow blower intended for paved areas and light, fluffy snow. Its 18-inch clearing width and 29-pound listed weight make it worth considering for sidewalks, steps, decks and small driveways—but it requires an outdoor-rated extension cord, and Toro’s performance figures are manufacturer claims rather than independent test results.
What this review covers
This is a model-specific, source-based assessment of the Toro 1800 Power Curve, model 38381—not a hands-on test. Toro describes it as a residential electric snow blower for small paved areas. The specifications and use guidance below come from Toro’s product page and its operator’s manual.
Is the Toro Power Curve 38381 right for a small driveway?
It may suit someone clearing a modest paved area who values a relatively light machine and is comfortable managing a power cord. Toro lists sidewalks, steps, decks and small driveways as suitable applications. It positions the machine for light, fluffy snow, not every storm or surface.
Where it fits
- Small paved areas near a suitable power source.
- Light, fluffy snow within the limits described in the manual and product specifications.
- Operators who can route an outdoor-rated extension cord safely while moving the machine.
Where it does not fit
- Gravel or crushed-rock surfaces: Toro’s manual says the machine is intended only for paved surfaces.
- Work that requires cordless mobility or operation far from an outlet.
- Buyers seeking independently verified capacity or performance: the available figures are Toro’s specifications, not results from an independent test.
What are the Toro Power Curve 38381’s specifications?
The following figures are listed by Toro for model 38381. They should be read as manufacturer specifications, not independently measured results.

| Specification | Toro’s listing |
|---|---|
| Clearing width | 18 in. (46 cm) |
| Motor and power | 15-amp series-wound electric motor; 120 VAC per Toro’s model-specific parts record |
| Type and drive | Single-stage; push-operated |
| Auger and scraper | 7-inch auger diameter; stationary scraper |
| Snow depth | Toro’s product copy says it can clear up to 10 inches; its specification table lists 8 inches as the ideal snow depth |
| Snow type | Fluffy or light snow |
| Throw distance | Up to 30 ft (9.1 m); Toro says distance varies with conditions |
| Listed throughput | 700 lb (318 kg) per minute |
| Chute | Plastic chute with quick lever and 180-degree rotation; locking deflector adjusts discharge direction and height |
| Weight | 29 lb (13.2 kg) |
The difference between the 10-inch “up to” statement and the 8-inch ideal-depth listing matters: neither establishes how quickly or reliably this machine will clear a particular snowfall. Snow density, surface conditions and the clearing setup affect the job, and the 30-foot throw figure is expressly conditional.
What does corded operation mean in practice?
Model 38381 uses 120 VAC power and is corded. Toro’s manual requires an extension cord suitable for outdoor use and warns: “Warning—To prevent electric shock, use the appliance only with an extension cord suitable for outdoor use.” The evidence cited here does not establish a cord gauge or maximum length, so choose a cord only after checking the manual’s applicable requirements and electrical guidance for your setup.

Before choosing this blower, consider whether the outlet and clearing area allow safe cord routing without trapping, stretching or crossing the cord in a way that obstructs movement. Cord management is an ownership trade-off: the machine avoids battery charging and fuel handling, but its working area depends on access to power and safe cord placement.
What safety and maintenance details matter?
Toro’s manual says to wear safety glasses or eye shields, keep people away from the work area, and keep hands and feet clear of rotating parts. For a blockage, it states: “Always use a clean-out tool, not your hands.” Follow the manual’s shutdown, unplugging and interlock-key instructions before clearing a jam or servicing the machine. Toro also directs users to unplug the appliance before servicing or changing accessories and to store it indoors in a dry, secured place.

- Item specifics Condition: New: A brand-new, unused, unopened, undamaged item in its original packaging (where packaging is applicable). Read the model 38381 operator’s manual before use; do not treat a headline throw or throughput figure as a substitute for its safety instructions.
Warranty, parts and current availability
Toro’s product page displays a 2-year limited warranty and directs buyers to a dealer for details. Coverage terms and exclusions are not established by that listing alone; check the applicable warranty document for the machine’s serial range and region.

Toro provides a model 38381 parts and documentation page with parts information, manuals and warranty documents organized by serial range. Owners of used or older machines should match the serial number before ordering parts or relying on a document.
At the time Toro’s U.S. product page was accessed on October 8, 2026, it displayed a price of $259 USD and “Not Available Online,” with a direction to contact a local dealer. That is a dated listing, not a promise of current price or local stock; check the product page and dealer inventory before buying.

Verdict: a corded option for limited paved-area clearing
The Toro Power Curve 38381 is a plausible fit for small paved areas and light, fluffy snow when a corded 120 VAC machine suits the site. Its light listed weight and 18-inch width are useful characteristics for that kind of work, while cord routing, the paved-surface restriction and the lack of independent performance testing are important constraints. Consider another type of snow blower if the job routinely involves gravel, larger areas, heavier snow or a need to work away from an outlet.
