The latest surfaced update from Tom Wagner and Knighthead, issued by Birmingham City FC on July 30, 2026, did not announce a stadium construction milestone. It said Wagner was making progress in his recovery and reaffirmed the club’s commitment to the wider Sports Quarter and future Powerhouse Stadium.
What the July 30, 2026 update said
Knighthead’s statement, distributed by Birmingham City FC, said Wagner would not attend the following day’s match while recovering. It also said the club and Knighthead team remained focused on their long-term plans, including the Sports Quarter and the future Powerhouse Stadium. The statement did not give a construction update, delivery date or opening timetable. Birmingham City FC’s statement
What the stadium proposal includes
A planned 62,000-capacity venue
Birmingham City FC described the unveiled stadium plan as having a capacity of 62,000. That is a club-reported proposal, not confirmation of a final approved design or the capacity of a completed venue. The available club post does not establish whether the figure has since changed. A stadium within a wider Sports Quarter
The proposal is presented as one part of a wider Sports Quarter development, rather than a standalone stadium project. In club interviews, Wagner described the ambition as a destination extending beyond football, saying: “It will be a Birmingham attraction, a West Midlands attraction and a national attraction.” This is the stated ambition; it is not evidence of realized visitor numbers or economic impact. Proposed design collaborators
Birmingham City Council’s Growth in Brum article, published October 23, 2025, identified Heatherwick Studio and MANICA as proposed design collaborators for the stadium. The council framed the project within broader regeneration and transport plans. The article does not establish that the design is final or that construction has begun. Transport plans and what remains unconfirmed
The club has described a tram connection as part of the transport solution it is pursuing to link the site with central Birmingham and existing transport links. That is an intended connection: the cited club material does not verify completed infrastructure or set out a delivery schedule. Birmingham City FC’s stadium-design update
