Free crochet rocking horse appliqué pattern
Kerri Brown’s pattern is a small motif built from a rocking base, horse head and body, legs, mane, tail, saddle, and flowers. The free instructions are on Kerri’s Crochet, with separate pages for US and UK crochet terminology and a linked video tutorial. A paid download option is also listed on Ravelry.
Materials and scale
The pattern’s materials list calls for four colors of crochet cotton or wool, a crochet hook, scissors, sewing thread and needle, a darning needle, and black cotton for the nostrils. Seed beads are optional flower embellishments. Brown says her example used 4-ply cotton and a 1.25 mm hook; other yarn and hook sizes are allowed, but changing them changes the finished scale. The Ravelry listing gives the example size as 11 × 10.5 cm (4.5 × 4 inches).

What assembly involves
The instructions make the motif’s parts separately, then bring them together: embroider the nostrils and eyes, stitch the head to the body, attach mane and tail, add saddle and bridle details, and secure the horse to the rocking base. Use the full pattern for row-by-row instructions and terminology; a summary is not a substitute for its stitch counts and assembly sequence.
Rocking horse crochet blanket pattern
Ashlee Brotzell’s separate pattern is a much larger project than the appliqué. Its Ravelry listing, first published in 2020 and updated in 2023, offers three pattern/chart sets: interlocking crochet, overlay mosaic using the original chart, and overlay mosaic using an adjusted, more solid chart. The listed dimensions below are the inch measurements from the listing; its metric rendering for the 61-inch blanket is inconsistent, so verify sizing with the pattern seller if metric dimensions matter.

- Choose the appliqué if you want a small crocheted decoration and prefer a short list of separately assembled pieces.
