Dyna-Glo kerosene heater wicks and installation details vary by model; the RMC-55R7B and RMC-95C6, for example, use different listed wick numbers and different assembly steps.
Identify the model and compatible wick first
Read the model number on the heater’s rating label, then check that model’s owner’s manual before buying a wick or taking the heater apart. The manuals list these options:

These are model-specific listings, not a universal Dyna-Glo wick list. The RMC-95C6 manual warns that a wick designed for another brand or model may damage the heater and create a fire hazard. Confirm compatibility against your own model’s manual before purchasing; do not assume the numbers above fit another heater.
RMC-55R7B: replacement procedure
Use this procedure only if the rating label identifies your heater as RMC-55R7B. Keep the complete manual available for its diagrams and assembly sequence. The manual requires the heater to be completely cool, the cartridge tank removed, and the remaining kerosene burned off before disassembly.

- Open the tank cover and remove the cartridge tank. Remove the batteries to prevent possible burns. Open the grille and remove the chimney.
- Pull the wick-adjusting knob straight off. Remove the five cabinet screws—two at the back, two on the left side, and one on the right—then lift the cabinet straight up.
- Remove the wind-cover screw and the wind cover. Remove the automatic ignition assembly by taking out its two screws.
- Unscrew the four wing nuts and lift off the wick-adjuster assembly.
- Fold the old wick inward to release it from the sharp metal teeth inside its holder, then slide it out.
- Fold the replacement wick and slide it into the holder. Align its black line with the holder’s top edge, then press the wick against the holder teeth so they grip it firmly.
- Reinstall the holder and wick in the burner tank, making sure the tank gasket remains in place. The manual recommends temporarily reinstalling the adjusting knob to make assembly easier.
- Refit the wick-adjuster assembly, aligning the shaft and rack. Install the four wing nuts snugly but do not fully tighten them yet. Raise the wick fully, then tighten the nuts evenly in several steps.
- Check that the wick extends 5/16 inch above the collar and that the gap between the wick holder and draft tube is even all around. Push the extinguish button to upset the pendulum and test the safety shutoff. Reinstall the ignition assembly and remaining parts as shown in the manual.
Checks before operating
The RMC-55R7B manual also directs you to rotate the reinstalled wick holder 90 degrees left and right and move it up and down. The wick should slide freely. Confirm free movement, the specified height, even clearance, and successful safety-shutoff operation before returning the heater to service.
Other models require their own instructions
RMC-95C6
Do not apply the RMC-55R7B steps to an RMC-95C6. Its manual describes a different wick and assembly: the replacement wick’s three pins fit into the sleeve and adjuster, and the specified wick height is 3/8 inch. It also calls for checking free travel and testing the automatic safety shutoff. Follow the RMC-95C6 manual for the full sequence and diagrams.

WK11C8
The WK11C8 instructions likewise specify their own cabinet and wick-adjuster removal sequence, a 5/16-inch wick height, and a safety-shutoff check. The model-specific differences are another reason to identify the heater before using a procedure. Consult the WK11C8 manual if that is the model on your rating label.

- The heater is slow to light.
- The wick adjuster is difficult to move.
- Kerosene odor is present while the heater is burning.
- Heat output is low or warm-up is slow.
- The wick is damaged.
For this model, the manual calls for a genuine replacement wick and says not to substitute one made for another model. Its symptom guidance applies to the RMC-95C6; check the manual for your own heater if it is a different model.
