The Instant Pot Duo Plus 6-quart is a sensible starting point for shoppers who want one electric cooker to handle pressure cooking and several other everyday tasks. If air frying is essential, compare a pressure-cooker-and-air-fryer combination such as the Instant Pot Duo Crisp; if you are considering Ninja, compare the exact model’s functions, capacity, controls, and included parts rather than relying on preset counts.
Top multipurpose pressure cooker picks
These options serve different priorities, not a single universal ranking. The performance observations below come from the named editorial reviews; manufacturer product pages establish listed specifications, not comparative results.
Best broadly useful option: Instant Pot Duo Plus 6QT
The Duo Plus 6QT is a multi-use electric pressure cooker with several cooking functions. Tom’s Guide reports that its tested Duo Plus performed well in most of its tests, but not on the Rice program; the tested version also included Egg, Cake, Yogurt, and Sterilize features. Confirm the generation and configuration on the listing you are considering, since similar names may refer to different versions. Instant Pot lists more than 10 safety mechanisms; that is a manufacturer feature claim, not an independent safety certification. [Tom’s Guide]
Best if air frying matters: Instant Pot Duo Crisp & Air Fryer
The Duo Crisp adds an air-frying lid to pressure-cooking and other functions. TechRadar’s reviewer found pressure and slow cooking impressive, but said fries prepared from the brand recipe were not crisp enough for their taste. The extra lid is bulky to store, and the reviewed configuration did not include a steaming rack. Check the precise bundle before buying. [TechRadar]

Ninja alternative: HyperHeat 6.5-quart pressure cooker
SharkNinja lists the PC201 as a 6.5-quart, 9-function pressure cooker, with pressure, steam, slow cook, and sauté among its functions. Those specifications make it a useful model to compare with the Duo Plus, but the manufacturer listing does not establish that it performs better or worse in testing. [SharkNinja]
For a wider mix of cooking modes: Ninja Combi
SharkNinja lists the SFP701 Combi with pressure cook, air fry, bake, and other modes. Consider it if you want a broader set of functions in one appliance; the listed modes alone do not show whether it will outperform a dedicated pressure cooker or air fryer. Compare its dimensions, included accessories, controls, and instructions for the exact model. [SharkNinja]

How to choose the right cooker
Match capacity to your meals
Decide whether you mainly cook for one or two people, prepare family meals, or batch-cook. Compare the capacity and dimensions for the exact model: product families may include multiple sizes, and the names do not always make bundle differences obvious. Manufacturer pages list different capacities across the ranges. [Instant Pot Duo Plus] [SharkNinja multicookers]
Choose useful functions, not the longest preset list
Pressure cooking plus modes such as steaming, sautéing, or slow cooking may cover the needs of many kitchens. Air frying, sous vide, or app-guided programs are worthwhile only if you expect to use them; extra capabilities can mean more controls, accessories, and storage demands. Compare the functions the manufacturer lists for each exact model rather than treating a higher preset count as a quality score. Account for storage and cleanup
A separate air-fryer lid needs somewhere to live when not in use. Pot materials and cleaning requirements also vary, so check the care instructions for the exact cooker and whether its accessories are dishwasher-safe. For app-connected models, consult the manufacturer’s support information for the appliance’s specific cleaning guidance. [TechRadar] [Instant Pot Pro Plus support]
Check pressure-release controls and instructions
Release methods differ by model. TechRadar describes a switch on the Duo Plus that releases steam while keeping fingers away from the hot valve. Use the operating manual for your cooker and keep clear of escaping steam; do not assume controls or procedures are interchangeable between models. [TechRadar]

Verify the model, bundle, and included accessories
Accessory lists can differ even among related cookers. Instant Pot’s US Duo product page says a stainless-steel steamer rack is included with that configuration, while TechRadar says the rack was not standard with its reviewed Duo Crisp configuration. Check the regional listing and package contents rather than assuming an accessory transfers across models. [Instant Pot Duo 6QT] [TechRadar]

Start with the exact models, not the brand names. The Duo Plus 6QT is a broad multi-use option with reported editorial testing; the Ninja HyperHeat PC201 is a 6.5-quart model whose listed functions include pressure cooking, steaming, slow cooking, and sautéing. The Ninja Combi and Duo Crisp add air-frying capability, with distinct designs and storage trade-offs.

Before choosing, compare the usable capacity, cooking modes you will actually use, lid and pot design, controls, cleaning requirements, included accessories, and the exact model’s warranty and operating instructions. The product listings establish specifications and included parts; they do not provide a like-for-like independent performance comparison across all these models. First-use and pressure-cooking safety
Follow the manual for the exact appliance, including its first-use steps, pressure settings, filling limits, and release procedure. Instant Pot UK’s Pro Crisp guidance, for example, requires a pressure-cooking test run before first use and gives model-specific instructions for high and low pressure. Those directions apply to that model’s documentation; do not transfer its settings to another cooker. [Instant Pot UK Pro Crisp guidance]
Instant Pot UK states: “Before using your new Instant Pot Pro Crisp for the first time, you must perform a pressure-cooking test run to ensure everything is working correctly.” Follow the full instructions for your particular cooker and use recipes tested for that appliance.
