Those label matches identify options to compare; they are not evidence that one works better than another. Confirm the label on the package you buy and follow local requirements.
Which moss killer is labeled for asphalt?
Start with the surface named on the label, not a product’s general description as a moss killer. The following comparison is based on Washington State University PICOL label records: the Moss Out! and BioAdvanced records are for 2026 labels, while the Moss-Aside record is for a 2025 label. A label in one jurisdiction does not establish that the same formulation or directions apply everywhere.

Choose between eligible products by considering whether you want a concentrate or ready-to-spray format, the labeled application rate and treated area, and the weather, repeat-treatment, and plant-protection directions. The available sources do not establish a head-to-head asphalt-driveway efficacy trial, so they do not support ranking these products by performance.
How to apply a labeled product
- Check the package label. Confirm that it names asphalt and that the formulation matches the one you intend to use. Read the entire label, including mixing, application, weather, protective-equipment, runoff, and repeat-treatment directions.
- Prepare the driveway and nearby area. Clear loose dirt and debris where appropriate, and take the label’s precautions for adjacent plants and surfaces. Moss Out!’s cited label warns against allowing spray or runoff to reach desirable plants.
- Apply only as directed. For Moss Out!, the cited Washington label specifies one part concentrate to 19 parts water, but its rate and directions should not be transferred to another product or jurisdiction. BioAdvanced’s cited product is ready-to-spray; follow its package instructions rather than diluting it.
- Allow for residue removal. Chemical treatment may kill moss without making it vanish immediately. BioAdvanced’s label says treated growth yellows and browns and may remain until wind or rain removes it. Follow the selected product’s label for any additional cleanup or repeat application.
Can you remove moss without a chemical treatment?
Yes. Oregon State University Extension advises sweeping dirt and debris from pavement, then rinsing moss from blacktop with a garden hose. For stubborn patches, it suggests a stiff-bristle brush or a wide, flat scraper. Work carefully to avoid damaging the driveway surface.

OSU also discusses bleach and vinegar for moss removal, but those household approaches should not be treated as universally safe or pet-safe. If using any cleaner, follow its safety directions and never mix bleach with ammonia or other cleaners. For a product treatment, use an option labeled for asphalt and follow that label.
How to make the driveway less favorable to moss
Moss is more likely to persist where pavement stays damp and shaded. OSU Extension recommends practical site changes that can reduce those conditions:
