The OXO Brew Classic Tea Kettle is Food Network Kitchen’s best overall tested stovetop pick in its 2026 guide, which reports a comfortable handle, clear whistle and drip-resistant pour. For a gas range, choose a stovetop kettle whose manufacturer confirms gas compatibility; if you also use induction, check that exact model separately.
Best stovetop kettles for a gas stove
Food Network Kitchen says it tested more than 10 stovetop kettles by boiling 3 cups of room-temperature water in each and assessing boil time, whistle, handle temperature, pouring, drips, emptying and cleaning. Its guide does not publish exact comparative boil times, so the speed labels below are the publication’s test findings, not a measurable time difference you can rely on for your kitchen.
| Pick | What Food Network Kitchen reports | Trade-off | Gas and induction |
|---|---|---|---|
| OXO Brew Classic Tea Kettle — best overall | Silicone-covered handle and spout cap; comfortable pouring; clear whistle; fast boiling and drip-proof pouring in its test; handle stayed cool enough to touch. The handle folds for storage. | Rivets may make cleaning more involved. | Choose only after confirming gas compatibility for the exact model. Induction compatibility is not established in the reviewed guide. |
| Cuisinart Aura Tea Kettle — best value | Stainless steel; spout-cap release button; handle stayed cool enough to use without a potholder in the test; quick boiling and a fairly loud whistle. | Fixed handle may make filling and cleaning more awkward. | Confirm gas and, if needed, induction compatibility with the exact model’s manufacturer information. |
| Fellow Clyde Kettle — fastest boiling in the test | Lightweight body, silicone-covered handle and a spout marble intended to help prevent drips. | The marble can clank while pouring. | Food Network Kitchen says it is not induction-compatible. Verify gas compatibility for the exact model with the manufacturer. |
| Fellow Stagg stovetop gooseneck — pour-over option | Food Network Kitchen recommends it for controlled, slower water flow and notes its thermometer. | The handle gets hot; the slower flow suits controlled pouring rather than general-purpose speed. | Food Network Kitchen says it is not induction-compatible. Verify gas compatibility for the exact model with the manufacturer. |
These are Food Network Kitchen’s rankings and observations from its testing, not independent test results. The guide links the OXO to Amazon, but regional availability and current listings can change.
How to choose a kettle for your gas range
Confirm gas compatibility for the exact model
Gas grates accommodate a broad range of kettle materials, but do not assume every vessel is suitable for a stovetop or every stovetop kettle is approved for your use. KitchenAid notes that most stovetop kettles can be used on gas or electric cooktops; check the product documentation for the model you plan to buy. Food Network Kitchen’s practical advice is: “Check the manufacturer’s web site or look at the box to make sure the model you’re interested in is compatible with your cooktop.” KitchenAid’s kettle buying guide also explains that induction requires magnetic cookware.

Match capacity to how much water you use
Food Network Kitchen says typical stovetop kettle capacity is 1–3 quarts and suggests 1–2 quarts if you usually boil only a few cups. A smaller kettle can be easier to handle when full; choose a larger one if you regularly need water for several people. Do not treat the kettle’s stated capacity as a promise that you should fill it to the rim—follow its fill line and manual.
Check handle, lid and pour ergonomics
Consider whether you can lift and pour a full kettle comfortably, whether the lid opens wide enough for filling and cleaning, and how the spout opens. Test observations about handle temperature apply to Food Network Kitchen’s test conditions, not every burner or kitchen. Keep hands clear of the spout and steam when opening or pouring.

Decide whether you need a whistle
A clear or loud whistle can alert you when water boils, but people differ in how noticeable they find it. Food Network Kitchen describes the OXO’s whistle as clear and the Cuisinart Aura’s as fairly loud in its test. If you prefer a particular alert style, confirm the product’s current design and use its instructions.
Consider cleaning, material and storage
Look at lid access, seams and rivets, since these can affect how easily you can clean the interior. Stainless steel and enamelled carbon steel are examples of materials used in stovetop kettles; material alone does not establish how quickly a particular model boils or how long it will last. A folding handle can help with storage, as Food Network Kitchen reports for the OXO.

Gas does not mean induction-compatible
A kettle can work on gas and still be unsuitable for induction. KitchenAid explains that induction requires magnetic cookware, so check the manufacturer’s specifications for the exact model if you might use an induction cooktop. Food Network Kitchen specifically says the Fellow Clyde and Fellow Stagg stovetop gooseneck are not induction-compatible.
For examples of manufacturer-stated cross-cooktop compatibility, Le Creuset UK’s stovetop kettle guide says its range is designed for gas, electric, induction and ceramic-glass hobs. It lists the Cloche and Traditional models at 2.1 L with a five-year guarantee; it also states that the Cloche is not dishwasher-safe. These are manufacturer specifications, not independent test findings.
