There isn’t one Ooni oven that is best for everyone. For an outdoor gas oven, Food Network Kitchen named the Koda 16 its best overall Ooni in a review whose contributors tested six models. For a broader outdoor-oven pick, Tom’s Guide named the multi-fuel Karu 2 its best overall pizza oven in its 2026 roundup. The right choice depends on where you’ll cook, which fuel you prefer, the size of pizza you want to make, and how much flame control you want.

Which Ooni pizza oven is best for you?

Your priority Ooni model or family to consider What to know
Outdoor cooking with gas Koda models Food Network Kitchen named the Koda 16 its best overall outdoor Ooni in its Ooni-specific review. Its larger opening makes pizza easier to maneuver, according to the review. Food Network Kitchen’s review.
Outdoor cooking with fuel flexibility Karu models Tom’s Guide named the Karu 2 its best overall pizza oven in a 2026 outdoor-oven roundup. The guide describes it as multi-fuel and says its L-shaped burner helped it cook more evenly with less fuss in that publication’s testing. Tom’s Guide’s roundup.
Indoor countertop cooking Volt 2 Ooni lists the Volt 2 as an indoor electric oven. Food Network Kitchen’s “Best Electric” pick was the older Volt 12, not the Volt 2, so that review result should not be treated as a tested recommendation for the newer model.
More than one cooking location or fuel preference Compare Koda, Karu and Volt 2 Start with location and fuel. Koda models are gas, Karu models offer multi-fuel options, and Volt 2 is electric and listed for indoor use. Check the current model instructions before choosing a setup.

What’s in Ooni’s current lineup?

Ooni’s US lineup page lists the following models. Models and availability can change, so confirm the current generation, stock and regional availability before buying. Ooni’s oven collection.

Family Models listed by Ooni Fuel or location
Koda Koda 2 Max (24-inch), Koda 2 Pro (18-inch), Koda 2 (14-inch), Koda 16 and Koda 12 Gas; outdoor models
Karu Karu 2 Pro (16-inch), Karu 2 and Karu 12 Multi-fuel; outdoor models
Volt Volt 2 (12-inch) Electric; listed for indoor use

The lineup includes different size classes, but a larger listed size does not by itself tell you whether an oven will suit your counter, storage area or cooking routine. Compare the model’s dimensions and weight in Ooni’s current chart and manual, and allow for any required clearance around the oven.

Koda vs. Karu: gas convenience or multi-fuel flexibility?

Choose Koda if gas is the priority

The Koda family is the straightforward place to start if you want a gas oven for outdoor cooking. Food Network Kitchen says gas was easier to control while cooking in its review, and names the Koda 16 its best overall among the six Ooni models its contributors collectively tested. That is a recommendation within that review’s scope, not a universal ranking of every current Ooni model.

Choose Karu if you value fuel options

Karu models are the multi-fuel family. In Tom’s Guide’s 2026 comparison of more than a dozen outdoor ovens, the Karu 2 was the publisher’s top overall pick. Tom’s Guide reported that it was easy to set up and that its L-shaped burner helped it cook more evenly with less fuss in the publication’s testing. This recommendation comes from a broader outdoor-oven comparison, not the same test as Food Network Kitchen’s Ooni-only review.

Tom’s Guide describes the Karu 16 as discontinued and replaced by the Karu 2 Pro. If you are comparing older listings or reviews, check the model name carefully rather than assuming the Karu 16 is the current equivalent of the Karu 2 Pro.

When does the Volt 2 make sense?

The Volt 2 is Ooni’s listed indoor electric option, which makes it the model to investigate if outdoor fuel use is not suitable for your home. Food Network Kitchen’s electric recommendation was for the older Volt 12. Its result should not be silently transferred to the Volt 2: they are different models, and the cited review does not establish a tested verdict for Volt 2.

Before placing an electric oven on a countertop, check the Volt 2 manual for installation, ventilation and clearance requirements. “Indoor” does not mean that every countertop or location is appropriate.

How to compare size, portability and setup

Ooni advises buyers to weigh portability, cooking setup, heat-up time, size, weight and cooking style. Its comparison chart is intended to compare fuel type, heat-up time, size, weight and cooking style; use the live chart and model manual for current specifications rather than relying on an older listing. Ooni’s oven comparison chart.

  • Match oven size to the food you make. Think about the pizza diameter you expect to launch and turn, as well as whether you want to cook other foods. The listed inch class is a useful starting point, not a substitute for checking usable cooking space.
  • Measure the full setup. Check the oven’s dimensions and weight, then consider where it will sit while cooking and where it will be stored afterward.
  • Account for portability. If you plan to move or travel with the oven, compare weight and handling needs alongside cooking capacity.
  • Choose your preferred heat control. Ooni frames the choice as hands-on flame control versus push-button heat. Consider whether you want to actively manage a live flame or prefer electric controls.
  • Verify compatibility and availability. Confirm generation, regional stock, fuel requirements and any accessories’ model compatibility on the current product page.

Why do published “best Ooni” picks differ?

The recommendations answer different questions. Food Network Kitchen’s Ooni-specific review says contributors collectively tested six Ooni models and names Koda 16 best overall and Volt 12 best electric. Tom’s Guide’s 2026 outdoor-oven roundup reports testing more than a dozen ovens over several years and names Karu 2 best overall. One compares Ooni models with one another; the other compares outdoor ovens across a wider field. Their winners are publisher-specific judgments, not conflicting universal facts.

  • MULTI-FUEL - Fill the Karu 2's extra large fuel tray with wood or charcoal for a traditional wood-fired experience, or attach a gas burner (sold separately) for easy propane-fueled baking that uses 36% less gas than previous models.
  • GREAT PIZZA ANYWHERE - This oven is perfect for beginners and experienced pizza-makers alike. And it’s ultraportable, so you can enjoy the freedom to cook amazing pizza year-round in your garden or on your next outdoor adventure.

For a gas pick, Food Network Kitchen’s Koda 16 recommendation is the most directly relevant of these two. For a multi-fuel outdoor pick, Tom’s Guide’s Karu 2 recommendation is the relevant one. Neither result establishes a best indoor oven among current models, since Food Network Kitchen’s electric selection was the older Volt 12.
