The “Samsung washing machine song” usually means the chime that plays when a wash cycle finishes. Samsung describes it as an appliance notification, but its exact sound and the way to control it vary by washer model and market. Samsung’s official sources do not identify the tune’s musical source; the popular claim that it is Schubert’s “The Trout” remains unconfirmed.
What the Samsung washer song is
The end-of-cycle melody is a notification that the wash is finished. It is distinct from other appliance sounds, such as a power-on signal or a tone made when you press a button. Samsung says select models let you change or turn off some alarms; the available controls depend on the washer.
Can you turn off or change the chime?
There is no universal setting or button sequence. Samsung’s guidance differs by model and country, so check the manual for your exact washer before trying a control combination.
Panel controls
Some washers offer sound or alarm controls on the appliance itself. Samsung’s US support guidance says only select models support changing or disabling alarms, and directs owners to model-specific instructions: Samsung US: sounds and alarms.

SmartThings and screen-based models
For certain newer SmartThings-compatible machines, Samsung Canada says sound control may be available in the app as a switch or slider. Select premium models may offer a choice of end-of-cycle alarm. Screen-based Bespoke models may include Sound mode, Sound theme, or Volume settings. These options are not available on every washer: Samsung Canada: washer and dryer sound settings.
Market-specific effects
On some Australian models, disabling the end-of-cycle melody can also disable the power-off beep and, on AddWash models, the AddWash alarm, while leaving other sounds active. That guidance is specific to the Australian market and should not be treated as a universal instruction: Samsung Australia: end-of-cycle melody.

Is the tune Schubert’s “The Trout”?
That attribution appears in informal online discussion, but it is not confirmed by Samsung’s official support or design material reviewed here. Treat it as a popular but unverified identification, not as an established fact about Samsung washers.
Samsung does identify “Beyond the Horizon” as its signature home-appliance brand melody since 2015. The company’s design story does not say that this brand melody is the washer’s cycle-completion chime, so the two sounds should not be assumed to be the same: Samsung: the story of “Beyond the Horizon”.

How to find the right instructions
- Identify the washer’s model number. Use the model information on the appliance or its documentation.
- Open the manual for that model and market. Look for sound, alarm, melody, or end-of-cycle settings rather than relying on a button sequence from another washer.
- If the washer supports SmartThings, check its device settings for a sound control; availability varies.
- If the manual does not explain the setting, use Samsung support for your country and model.
