The 10 Most Expensive Pool Tables in the World, Ranked by Reported Value

Reported values for ten notable pool and billiard tables range from an older $16,730 auction report to a reported $1.6 million sale. The evidence varies: one is a documented museum acquisition, while many figures come from secondary lists and historical price coverage.

There is no verified, consistently documented global ranking of the most expensive pool tables. The list below brings together reported auction prices, a museum acquisition and older price listings, so its order is indicative—not a definitive record book. The strongest documented figure is the National Museum of Australia’s 2022 acquisition of the History of Australia Billiard Table for $1.1 million; a separate ranking reports a $1.6 million sale for Queen Victoria’s Jubilee Exhibition Table, but that figure is not independently confirmed here.

How to read this ranking

These figures are not all the same kind of value. An institutional acquisition, an auction result and an old list price are not directly comparable, and a reported historical price is not a current asking price. The ranking is therefore ordered by the amounts reported in the cited sources, with the value basis and evidence limits identified for each entry. Where sources conflict, the disagreement is stated rather than silently resolved.

The most reliable documentation in this group is for the History of Australia Billiard Table. Most other figures come from secondary compilations, not primary sale records reviewed here. Currency conversions below are the approximate dollar equivalents given by the reporting source, not new conversions.

The 10 most expensive pool and billiard tables, by reported figure

1. Queen Victoria’s Jubilee Exhibition Table — reported $1.6 million

Rarest.org reports that Harrods sold this Orne & Sons table for $1.6 million around 2009. The table, made in 1887, is described as carved wood and fabric and accompanied by an associated cupboard. This is a secondary report; the sale documentation has not been independently confirmed here. Older Alux coverage gives a different figure of $1.5 million, underscoring why the $1.6 million should be treated as reported rather than an established record. Rarest.org’s ranking

Why these tables command attention—and why the figures differ

High reported values can reflect several different things, and the table itself is only part of the story. A documented royal or exhibition connection, a named maker, a known sale history and exceptional carving or materials may make an object more significant to collectors. The Australia table, for example, combines a named maker, a specific date range, Tasmanian blackwood and elaborate historical carving; its $1.1 million figure is tied to a named museum acquisition.

  • Provenance: A documented history or notable association can distinguish an antique from a table with similar materials but no known ownership record.
  • Craft and materials: Carving, inlay, hardwoods and metalwork contribute to an object’s character, but do not by themselves establish a particular market value.
  • Value basis: A completed sale or institutional acquisition is different evidence from an estimate or an old list price.
  • Evidence quality: A secondary ranking can identify a reported figure, but it is not a substitute for a primary auction record or institutional documentation.

For the entries in this list, source quality varies substantially. The Office for the Arts documents the Australia table’s acquisition and construction details. The other named prices rely mainly on secondary coverage, and no market-wide price index or consistently sourced global record list establishes a definitive order.

What a high-end table means for a building or game room

A collectible table’s reported value does not tell you what it takes to install or play on it. For an owner planning a game room, the practical question is whether the floor, access route and finished room can accommodate the table and its installation. PoolTables.com notes that proper installation and leveling are necessary for playability and describes an installer network. PoolTables.com’s about page

That practical concern is separate from a collectible’s provenance or reported price: the figures above do not establish installation requirements for any particular model. A table described as a museum acquisition or a historical sale should not automatically be assumed to be a currently available playable product.
