The Clesana X1 is a portable toilet designed for places without a plumbed bathroom: it telescopes upward for use, then seals waste inside a compatible film liner. It can run from an 18 V battery, a 12 V connection or the included 230 V power supply. Its compact form may suit a campsite or temporary worksite, but users need model-specific liners and a way to manage sealed waste.
What the Clesana X1 is—and how it works
Clesana calls the X1 a “mobile sealing toilet.” Rather than flushing waste into a tank, the unit uses film to contain it in a sealed bag. New Atlas reported that pressing a button activates a thermoelectric mechanism that seals and cuts the film; the finished bag can then be reached from a lower tray. New Atlas’ 2025 introduction describes the mechanism, while Clesana’s product listing describes automatic sealing in high-barrier film.
Odor resistance, hygiene and sealing performance are manufacturer claims, not independently established results in the available product coverage. The X1 is therefore best understood as a powered, bag-sealing alternative to a portable toilet with a holding tank—not as a flush toilet or a proven odor-free system.
Size, height and comfort at camp
The unit packs down to 302 mm high and extends to 416 mm. Clesana lists the seat height with the lid open as 407 mm and the footprint as 344 × 384 mm. Those dimensions help explain the telescoping design: it stores at a lower height, then rises into position for use. The listed seat height is the relevant figure for comparing it with the toilets users are accustomed to, but dimensions alone cannot establish comfort for every body or campsite setup.

Power options and estimated capacity
Clesana specifies an Einhell Power X-Change 18 V battery interface. The battery is not included, and the manufacturer recommends a 4 Ah battery, estimating around 40 sealed bags per charge. That is a manufacturer estimate, not an independently measured result; actual use may vary. Clesana says other 18 V battery systems used with adapters have not been tested, so compatibility should not be assumed.
The listed X1 package also includes a 230 V power supply and a 12 V plug, giving users alternatives to the separately purchased battery. Check the package details for the market and seller you are buying from, since included items and availability can vary.

Required liners, absorber sachets and waste disposal
The X1 requires Clesana X1 liners. Clesana warns that films from other manufacturers could damage the mechanism and void the warranty, so a generic bag or a liner intended for another Clesana model should not be treated as interchangeable. The manufacturer shop lists conventional and bio high-barrier X1 liners.
Clesana also lists Super-Absorber sachets for both the C1 and X1. The manufacturer says each sachet can bind up to 400 ml of liquid. These and replacement liners are recurring supplies to factor into ownership. The company says sealed bags may be disposed of in residual waste; follow local waste rules. Although the bio liner listing says it is largely made from biomass, that wording does not establish that the liner is biodegradable or environmentally superior.

Mounting, price and buying considerations
An optional X1 floor-fixing system is listed by Clesana. It may be relevant where a toilet needs to stay secured rather than sit freely, but the listing does not establish that it is necessary for every installation.
When retrieved in 2026, Clesana’s German shop listed the X1 at €1,012.95 including VAT, with shipping extra. The price and stated delivery window are time-sensitive German-market details, not a global price or a guarantee of stock or delivery. Who the X1 may suit
The X1 is aimed at users who need a toilet away from plumbing and prefer sealed-bag waste handling to an onboard holding tank. Its telescoping body, multiple power options and optional floor fixing may make it worth considering for camps or temporary sites where those features solve a practical problem. It is a less natural fit for someone who wants to avoid model-specific recurring supplies, cannot accommodate its power requirements, or expects independent proof of odor-control performance. Those trade-offs matter more than the “cube” form factor alone.
