Successful Farming’s 2021 Tools of the Year was an editorial roundup of equipment and supplies for farm and ranch work—not a current product test or a complete list of every winner. The publication named an Editor’s Choice and Recommended products across eight categories. The reviewed category pages cover four: hand tools, power tools, shop supplies and shop essentials.
How the 2021 selections were made
In an overview published September 14, 2021, Successful Farming said it searched manufacturer innovations for tools and supplies suited to farm and ranch work. The editorial team selected one “Editor’s Choice” and other “Recommended” products. The listed categories were Power Tools; Hand Tools; Ratchets & Sockets; Metalworking; Shop Supplies; Lighting; Workbenches & Tool Chests; and Shop Essentials. The four category pages summarized below do not represent all selections in the roundup.

Hand tools
The hand-tools page named GearWrench Editor’s Choice for its 90-tooth ratcheting wrenches. Successful Farming reported a 4-degree swing arc, longer beams and a 12-point box end; model 86959 was described as a 14-piece SAE set. The article’s $295 retail figure was published in 2021 and should not be treated as a current price.
Recommended products included a Crescent Wide Jaw Adjustable Wrench, Tite-Reach TR12V1 1/2-inch Pro Extension Wrench, Vampire Tools Mini Precision Nippers and a seven-piece Wiha screwdriver set. The page highlighted jaw and reach details for the adjustable wrench, access to tight spaces with the extension wrench, electronics work for the nippers and impact-resistant screwdriver construction.

- DeWalt 20V Atomic Compact Bandsaw, model DCS377.
- Makita 18V LXT grease gun, model XPGO1Z.
- Milwaukee M12 Fuel ratchet, model 2567-20.
- A Snap-on long-neck impact wrench.

Shop supplies
The shop-supplies page paired common repair and maintenance needs with products intended for particular jobs:

Shop essentials
The shop-essentials page covered clamping, cleaning, heating, lifting and inspection equipment. - Task: Identify the repair or maintenance job first, such as loosening a fastener, cutting stock, applying grease, sealing a puncture or inspecting a hard-to-reach area.
- Fit and capacity: Match drive size, reach, jaw opening, lifting capacity or probe length to the work. A tool that cannot reach or safely handle the part is not a useful choice, regardless of its award.
- Power and compatibility: Check the required power source, battery platform, consumables and material compatibility.
- Access and control: Consider whether the work area is confined and whether the tool’s shape, reach or operating method allows controlled use there.
