The Tabletop Bowling Game plan is WOOD Magazine Plan #MD-01201, a home-game project featured in WOOD Issue 257 (November 2018). The paper plan includes step-by-step instructions and full-size patterns for a game measuring 39 1/2 inches long by 12 inches wide. The plan and the associated parts set are sold separately, so check what you already have—and confirm current availability and any kit contents with the seller—before ordering.
Identify the plan before ordering
WOOD Magazine’s project page describes a tabletop bowling game board for home play and links readers to the WOOD Store. The page was updated January 8, 2024. The plan is identified by specialist supplier Schlabaugh & Sons as WOOD Plan #MD-01201, associated with WOOD Issue 257, November 2018.
Schlabaugh & Sons lists the finished game dimensions as 39 1/2 inches long by 12 inches wide. Its listing describes the paper pattern as containing step-by-step instructions and full-size patterns. Those details identify the project; they do not establish that lumber, hardware, or game components are included with the paper plan.

Schlabaugh & Sons states that it does not offer a ready-to-assemble kit. Its separate parts set may reduce the effort of sourcing the pins, marble, spring, and dowels, but it should not be treated as a complete project kit. The WOOD Store’s optional kit is a different listing; confirm what it includes directly with the seller.

Decide what to source separately
- Choose the plan source. Compare the current seller listings for the paper plan, checking the plan number and issue association so you select MD-01201.
- Inventory parts you already own. Compare suitable pins, a marble, compression spring, and maple dowels with the separately listed set. The available listing does not provide enough detail here to specify component dimensions or substitutions.
- Confirm any kit contents. If considering the WOOD Store project kit, ask the seller what is included and whether it is currently available; the listing alone does not verify either point.
- Review the plan for the remaining build requirements. Use its instructions and patterns to determine the lumber, hardware, tools, and other materials needed before starting. Do not assume the parts set supplies those items.
Do not substitute another design’s materials list
A separate tabletop bowling project called Skittlebowl provides an example of how another builder approached a similar game: reclaimed 3/4-inch pine for the main box, triangle, and pin holder; 3/8-inch plywood for the box sides and triangle top; hardwood for pole holders, ball, and pins; a 7/8-inch dowel for the pole; and hardware including a hinge and latch. Those are materials for that independent design, not a verified bill of materials for WOOD Plan #MD-01201. They should not be used to estimate or replace the plan’s requirements.
