Ruffled Romance is a floribunda rose introduced by Jackson & Perkins for 2026. The “won America’s heart” story refers to the rose’s name: Jackson & Perkins announced it as the winning entry in its 2025 naming contest, which received 4,753 submissions. That was a naming contest—not a vote on the rose itself or a horticultural award.
How Ruffled Romance got its name
On September 8, 2025, Jackson & Perkins announced Ruffled Romance as the winning name in its rose-naming contest. The company reported 4,753 submissions from across the country. The figure counts entries, not votes for the cultivar or a measure of how popular the rose is with gardeners. Jackson & Perkins’ announcement attributes the response to the public’s creativity and interest in roses.
The plant and the naming contest are separate parts of the story. Jackson & Perkins identifies the rose as ‘JACdebbie,’ a floribunda bred by Dr. Keith Zary, and calls it the company’s exclusive 2026 introduction. The company also describes it as the final Jackson & Perkins introduction bred by Zary. The grower’s product page and Garden Media Group’s October 17, 2025 release make that legacy claim; it is the company’s characterization.
What the flowers and plant are like
Flowers and fragrance
According to Jackson & Perkins, the fully double, cupped flowers have about 25–35 ruffled petals. They open in golden-yellow and apricot shades, then develop a soft pink blush. Because flowers mature at different times, one plant may show several of these warm tones at once. The seller describes the fragrance as moderate and fruity. Jackson & Perkins’ product page presents these as variety specifications.

Blooming and size
The grower describes Ruffled Romance as repeat-flowering from late spring through late fall, with a compact, rounded habit measuring approximately 3 feet tall by 3 feet wide. These are seller-listed characteristics, not independent trial results. The available sources do not establish comparative performance across regions or independent disease-resistance scores.
Choosing between the bush and patio tree
Jackson & Perkins lists two formats. Their stated sizes, hardiness ranges, and support needs differ, so use the details for the particular form you are considering.
Rank #2
- Large, double pink blooms
- USDA zones 5-11
- Plant will ship dormant if ordered mid-fall to mid-spring
- Deciduous - loses its leaves during the winter months
- Water twice per week until established, then water once per week
| Format | Listed size | USDA zones | Use and support |
|---|---|---|---|
| Standard bush | About 3 feet high by 3 feet wide | 5–9 | The grower suggests beds, borders, small gardens, containers, low hedges, and cutting gardens. No special support is specified. Source: Jackson & Perkins. |
| Patio tree | 24-inch standard; about 4 feet tall by 3 feet wide overall | 6–9 | Presented for patios, entries, walkways, mixed borders, and large containers. Grafted on Dr. Huey rootstock; the grower recommends secure staking, particularly in windy sites or containers. Source: Jackson & Perkins. |
The listed zone range for the bush does not apply to the patio tree. Jackson & Perkins recommends full sun and moist, well-drained soil for the bush; its planting preview also advises allowing roughly 3 feet in both height and width, providing good drainage and airflow, and preparing the soil before planting. See the grower’s specifications for the form you plan to buy.
Basic care, according to the grower
- Choose the site: Plant the bush in full sun in fertile, well-drained soil, with room for its listed mature size.
- Water: Water deeply while the rose is establishing and during dry periods, keeping soil moist without sacrificing drainage.
- Feed: Apply fertilizer during the growing season, following the product label; Jackson & Perkins does not specify a particular fertilizer in its care guidance.
- Deadhead: Remove spent blooms as needed.
- Prune: Prune lightly in late winter or early spring.
- Stake the tree form: Secure the patio tree, especially where wind exposure or a container could make it unstable.
These are the seller’s care recommendations, not a guarantee of performance in every climate or garden. Jackson & Perkins describes the rose as disease resistant, but the available sources do not supply independent resistance ratings or comparative trial data. Consult the product information for its own description and current instructions.

Is Ruffled Romance suited to your garden?
The bush is the more compact option by the grower’s listed dimensions and has the broader listed hardiness range. The patio tree offers a raised, standard-form presentation for a patio or entry, but is listed for zones 6–9 and needs secure staking. Both forms are described by the seller as suitable for containers, though the tree form is specifically recommended for large containers. For cutting, the grower lists the bush for cutting gardens; it does not provide independent information about vase life or stem performance.
