Its connector bolts let the rack come apart for storage or transportation. It is a quilt display—not a ladder designed to support a person—and the plan is sold separately from materials.
What the WOOD quilt ladder plan builds
The WOOD Store describes a “Simple design, basic power tools, and a few boards” for making this quilt rack. The finished dimensions in its listing are:
- Width: 25 inches
- Depth: 21 inches
- Height: 66 inches
The project was featured in WOOD Issue 186, dated October 2008. The current listing says it was updated January 16, 2024; that is the listing update date, not the issue date. See the WOOD Store quilt ladder plan listing.
What is included—and what you need to verify
Woodcraft describes the same project as a downloadable plan and says materials are not included. The listings identify connector bolts as the feature that permits disassembly, but do not state their dimensions or exact configuration. Consult the purchased plan before buying hardware; do not assume a generic bolt will fit.

WOOD’s “basic power tools” description is general rather than a confirmed tool-by-tool checklist. A separate retailer listing names cherry and tools such as a table saw, drill, jigsaw, router, and sander, but those details are not established as mandatory by the official plan summary. Treat them as retailer-provided description, not verified requirements.

How the listed dimensions compare
The official WOOD Store listing gives 25 × 21 × 66 inches. WoodworkersWorkshop reports 66 × 25.5 × 21.25 inches for the design. The width and depth differ slightly, so use the official listing’s figures when describing this plan and check the actual plan drawing for layout before cutting lumber.
These dimensions describe a freestanding display rack, not a load-bearing step ladder. Do not climb on it or use it as a substitute for a rated ladder.

“Blanket ladder” plans are not interchangeable: their dimensions, lumber, rung layouts, fasteners, and tools vary. The following are separate designs, not alternate cut lists for the WOOD quilt ladder.

- Footprint: Width and depth determine where the rack can stand and how much floor space it occupies.
- Rung layout: Confirm the number of rungs and their spacing against the quilts you intend to display.
- Lumber: Board dimensions and species affect both the cut list and the finished appearance. Do not transfer another plan’s lumber list to this one.
- Connections: If taking the rack apart matters, the WOOD plan’s connector-bolt feature is relevant; verify the specified hardware in the complete plan.
- Tools and skill: Match the plan’s actual instructions to the tools available to you. A pocket-hole jig listed for a Kreg design does not establish that the WOOD plan requires one.
For the featured plan, use the WOOD Store listing and its downloadable instructions as the authority for dimensions and construction details. The WoodworkersWorkshop listing is a secondary description; it mentions cherry and additional tools, but the official summary does not make those specifications mandatory.
