Quick wins for a faster PC:
Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Start with the heater’s full model number, control type, and exact status or error message, then follow the current manual for that unit. Raypak troubleshooting is model-specific: a code or repair step for one heater family may not apply to another. For owners, the safest first checks are limited to visible water circulation, routine filter condition, and external power; gas, ignition, combustion, venting, internal electrical, and safety-switch faults need qualified service.
Identify the heater before troubleshooting
Record the information below before looking up a fault or contacting a technician. It helps match the symptom to the right documentation and service procedure.
- Full model number and fuel type, if known.
- Control or display type, plus the exact status text or error code.
- Whether the pool pump is running and whether the heater attempts to start.
- When the problem began, including whether it followed maintenance or a power interruption.
Use Raypak’s product literature library to find the manual for that exact unit and check for the current revision. Raypak cautions that a manual supplied with a heater may not be the latest version. The reviewed 241236 manual, revision 50 effective August 24, 2026, covers Digital gas models 206A, 266A, 336A, and 406A; it is not a universal manual for every Raypak heater.
Raypak’s Tech Corner is the manufacturer’s starting point for common error codes, pressure problems, and ignition issues. Its FAQ also points to how-to videos. Separate resources exist for product and control families, including AVIA troubleshooting and Touchscreen Communication Error (Error 00); do not assume their instructions apply to a different display or model.

Safety: know when to stop
Gas odor is an emergency. Do not light an appliance, touch electrical switches, or use a phone inside. Leave the area and call the gas supplier from a neighbor’s phone. If you cannot reach the supplier, call the fire department.
Stop troubleshooting and arrange qualified service for soot, visible flame rollout, repeated ignition failure, damaged wiring, unusual combustion, blocked venting, or repeated high-limit trips. If it is safe, shut the heater down using its normal controls. Do not open the gas train, burner chamber, or an energized control compartment, and never bypass a safety device.

Raypak’s manual states: “Installation and service must be performed by a qualified installer, service agency, or the gas supplier.” Incorrect operation or service can create fire, explosion, carbon monoxide, and injury risks.
Why is my Raypak pool heater not turning on?
For a no-fire complaint, the covered 206A–406A manual directs users to check whether electrical power is present and whether the circuit breaker has tripped; it also points to normal pump flow. Keep these checks external: use the heater’s normal controls, observe whether the pump is running, and check the breaker without opening the heater. If power and circulation appear normal but the heater still will not start, use the displayed status and matching manual rather than attempting ignition-system repairs.

What does “Water Sw Open” mean?
On the Digital 206A, 266A, 336A, and 406A models covered by manual 241236, “Water Sw Open” means the water pressure switch is open. Raypak’s flow advises verifying water flow and pressure and cleaning or backwashing the filter or strainer as needed. Owners can confirm the pump is running and that ordinary filter maintenance is current. If the status remains, stop and arrange qualified service.
The pressure or flow switch is a safety device: Raypak cautions not to run the heater without a properly functioning, adjusted switch. Do not bypass it or adjust it yourself. The manual’s multimeter check is a technician diagnostic, not a homeowner wiring test.

Why does my Raypak heater keep shutting off?
A shutdown status can point to different conditions depending on model and control family. In the 206A–406A manual, diagnostic messages include high-limit open, rollout switch open, vent or field switch open, flow or field switch open, thermistor sensor open or short, and ignition-failure or lockout messages. These are examples for those models, not a code list for all Raypak heaters.
Read the exact display text and consult the corresponding manual. Repeated high-limit trips, rollout or vent-related faults, sensor faults that persist, or repeated ignition failures are reasons to stop and call a qualified service provider—not to reset repeatedly, defeat a switch, or open the heater.

Ignition lockout
For the covered models, the manual describes ignition lockout as potentially involving a pilot flame that was not established or was lost during the main burner trial. One listed configuration can delay a retry for 60 minutes. This is model- and configuration-specific; owners should not treat the delay as a repair or attempt work on the ignition system.
Where can I find the manual or a qualified technician?
Search Raypak’s literature library using the full model number, and confirm the manual’s scope and revision before following a procedure. For qualified help, use the Raypak Pool Pro locator or another qualified service provider. Gas, ignition, combustion, venting, internal electrical controls, and safety-switch work should be left to trained service personnel.
After a fault has been diagnosed, Raypak’s model history, parts search, and product instructions can help identify model-specific parts and procedures. Match the full heater model and part number; a part or kit should not be selected from a symptom alone.
