The Quick-Convert Tablesaw/Router Station is a WOOD Magazine plan for a mobile stand that serves as tablesaw support and a router table. Its wings expand the work surface, and an onboard drawer slides out for router-table use. The published layout uses a Bosch GTS1031 benchtop saw as its example, but WOOD says to measure your own saw and router and adjust the base as needed.
How the station works
The station combines two shop functions in one mobile unit. With the wings folded, it occupies a compact footprint; when opened, the wings provide additional tablesaw support. For router work, the router drawer slides out from the station. WOOD Magazine describes the expanded surface as a tablesaw work area, not as a guarantee that every saw or workpiece will be supported safely without adaptation.
Published dimensions and footprint
WOOD Magazine gives these project specifications:
| Configuration | Published dimensions | Published area description |
|---|---|---|
| Folded | 33 inches wide × 29 inches deep × 31 inches high | Less than 7 square feet |
| Unfolded | 72 × 48 × 31 inches | 17-square-foot tablesaw work surface |
These are the publisher’s plan figures, not independent measurements. Allow for clearance to open the wings and drawer, move stock, and reach controls; the stated footprint does not include the additional room needed to work around the station.
Check whether your saw and router will fit
Measure the tablesaw
The plan’s example is a Bosch GTS1031 benchtop tablesaw. That model is not specified as mandatory, and the publisher says similarly sized saws may fit if measured and the base is adjusted as necessary. Compare your saw’s actual dimensions and mounting arrangement with the plan layout before cutting material. Do not assume that a saw fits just because it is a benchtop model.

- Space-saving table saw router extension: Replaces a table saw extension wing to add a dedicated routing surface beside the saw, helping integrate routing into the existing table-saw footprint instead of requiring a separate router table. Check your saw’s mounting-hole pattern before ordering, as fit varies by model
- 1-1/2 in thick, 50+ lb cast-iron work surface: The substantial cast-iron top provides a solid routing surface, while its machined, smooth-finished face gives stock a consistent working area as it moves across the table. Its weight also means two-person handling is recommended during installation
- Insert plate fit and mounting: The recess measures 11-3/4 x 9-1/4 in with 3/4 in radius corners and accepts plates up to 3/8 in thick. Compatible with the O’SKOOL router series, including the 3.5/4.2 Router Lift Systems. Recess size alone does not confirm mounting fit for other lifts or plates, so check securing-hole placement before ordering
- Fence, miter and fixture compatibility: Fence mounting slots are 21 in apart; the O’SKOOL 32 in Router Table Fence fits, while the 24 in Fence does not. For other fences, check mounting spacing and bolt-head fit. A 3/4 x 3/8 in miter slot and separate fixture slot support compatible routing accessories
- Installation, hardware & support: Mounting and plate-leveling hardware is included, while some table saw setups may require original fasteners, drilling, or shimming. After installation, check balance and stability and add support legs if the extension-wing setup is not adequately supported
Check router height and drawer clearance
Measure the router’s height and check it against the bin or drawer space shown in the plan. Also account for the router’s mounting arrangement and the access needed to operate it. The public description does not give a universal router-size limit, so the fit check has to be made against your machine and the plan’s detailed drawings.
Plan for a safe, stable setup
Before building, consider how your particular saw will be secured and supported, whether the expanded wings sit level with its table, and whether the station can be positioned on a stable floor with room to operate. The public listing does not publish the plan’s construction sequence or safety instructions; follow the complete plan and the tool manufacturers’ instructions rather than inferring structural details from the summary.

What the plan description establishes—and what it does not
The project appeared in WOOD Issue 213, September 2012. WoodworkersWorkshop credits John Olson as author and Lucas Peters, Kevin Boyle, and Lorna Johnson as contributors; the official WOOD Store page displays WOOD Store as its byline. The public descriptions establish the concept, stated dimensions, example saw, and basic fit cautions.
They do not provide a complete materials list, cut list, hardware schedule, joinery details, safety instructions, or step-by-step construction sequence. Those details are in the plan itself and should not be guessed from the product description.
