Whirlpool, Speed Queen, Sub-Zero/Wolf, GE Appliances and BlueStar all have reported U.S. manufacturing tied to particular product categories. Before buying, check the exact model’s current country-of-origin claim: factory locations, product sourcing and ownership are separate questions.
What “made in the USA” means for appliances
“American-made” in this article means that a brand has reported U.S. manufacturing for at least some appliances—not that its entire lineup qualifies as U.S.-made. A brand’s name or headquarters does not establish where a specific product was made.
The Federal Trade Commission says an unqualified “Made in USA” claim means a product is “all or virtually all” made in the United States. Final assembly and significant processing must take place domestically, and foreign content must be negligible. The FTC’s guidance explains the standard, but does not certify the brands or individual models below: FTC guidance on the Made in USA standard.
The brand-level manufacturing details below come from Yale Appliance’s guide, dated July 30, 2025. It is retailer reporting, not an audit of every model or a guarantee that manufacturing arrangements have not changed. Yale Appliance’s overview of appliances made in the USA is a useful starting point; confirm the current origin statement for the product you intend to purchase.

Which appliance brands have reported U.S. manufacturing?
Whirlpool: U.S. production across several major categories
Whirlpool has factories in the United States, Mexico and Canada. Yale Appliance reports that most of its laundry, cooking and refrigeration lines are produced in the United States, particularly products sold under the Whirlpool, Maytag and KitchenAid brands. That does not mean every appliance from those brands is domestic; origin varies by product and model.
Speed Queen: U.S. manufacturing focused on laundry
Yale Appliance identifies Speed Queen as a laundry brand with U.S. manufacturing in Wisconsin. The reporting supports a brand- and category-level description, not a current country-of-origin guarantee for each washer or dryer. Check the particular model’s labeling and manufacturer information.
Rank #2
Sub-Zero and Wolf: refrigeration and cooking in different states
Yale Appliance reports that Sub-Zero refrigerators are built in Wisconsin and Wolf ranges in Arizona. These are category-specific claims: they do not establish the origin of every product associated with the brands. The guide also reports that Cove dishwasher production began in Kentucky in 2022; treat that as a dated statement, not confirmation of a model’s current origin.
GE Appliances: U.S. factories, with product exceptions
Yale Appliance reports that most GE cooking appliances, full-size refrigerators and dishwashers are made in plants across Kentucky, Georgia and Tennessee. It notes exceptions that include certain laundry and smaller appliances, so GE’s U.S. manufacturing footprint should not be read as a claim that all GE products are made domestically.

Ownership and manufacturing location are separate. GE Appliances is owned by Haier, while the reported U.S. factories make products in the categories described above. A foreign parent company does not by itself establish where an appliance was manufactured.
BlueStar: cooking appliances in Pennsylvania; newer columns in Iowa
Yale Appliance reports that BlueStar cooking appliances have been manufactured in Pennsylvania since the 1880s, and that its newer column refrigerators and freezers are built in Iowa. This is secondary retailer reporting; confirm the origin of the specific cooking appliance or refrigeration model before relying on a domestic-origin claim.

How to verify a particular appliance’s origin
- Identify the exact model. Record the model number, not just the brand or product family. Origin can differ across products in the same lineup.
- Check the product label and manufacturer materials. Look for a current country-of-origin statement on the appliance, packaging, specification sheet or the manufacturer’s page for that model.
- Ask the seller or manufacturer if the claim is unclear. Request confirmation for that model and, if relevant, the production run you are considering. A general statement about U.S. factories does not answer where that appliance was made.
- Assess the wording of any “Made in USA” claim. The FTC’s unqualified claim standard is “all or virtually all” made in the United States. A statement that a product is assembled, designed or manufactured in the U.S. may communicate something narrower; read the full wording and context.
- Recheck before purchase. Product sourcing and manufacturing arrangements can change, and a retailer’s overview may not reflect current model-level details.
Choose by product and practical fit—not by a brand-wide label
These five brands are not a ranking of quality or reliability. The available manufacturing information does not establish which appliance lasts longest or performs best. Compare the specific category and model you need, its current origin statement, ownership if that matters to you, price tier, and access to local service and parts. Then decide whether the product’s verified origin meets your own requirements.
