But calling posies a proven, widespread spring trend goes beyond the available evidence. One florist has promoted them as a 2026 trend; broader flower-show coverage points to related design ideas—shape, repetition, massed blooms and unexpected botanicals—rather than posies specifically.
What is a posy?
In current floral styling, a posy is best understood as a compact bouquet. The sources available do not establish a fixed stem count, required dimensions or universal rules for making one. Think of it instead as an edited arrangement: choose a small group of flowers and let their shape, color and movement do the work.
Are posies a spring trend in 2026?
There is a trend claim, but not evidence that posies have become popular across gardens or the floral market as a whole. A commercial florist describes posy bouquets as a 2026 trend, while no independent measure of posy sales, searches or adoption is available. Treat “hot trend” as an appealing styling angle, not a verified market-wide finding.
The wider design context is more substantiated. The Pennsylvania Horticultural Society’s report on the 2026 Philadelphia Flower Show describes sculptural arrangements, repeated forms, massed blooms, unexpected botanicals such as seed heads, and monochromatic palettes. It also discusses large installations using branchwork, texture and negative space. Those observations are about flower-show design, not a claim that posies are trending in home gardens; they do, however, help explain why a small arrangement built around deliberate choices can feel current.

PHS’s December 18, 2025 announcement of its ten gardening trends for 2026 covers several areas of gardening, including floral design, ornamental gardens, landscape practice and indoor growing. It establishes that trend forecasting is part of the gardening conversation, but does not identify posies as a measured or named trend.
A spring pairing with contrast and movement
One documented example comes from a March 29, 2026 Homes & Gardens report on Joanna Gaines’s early-spring arrangement. The arrangement paired delphiniums with Icelandic poppies from her garden in Waco, Texas. Rachel Bull, Homes & Gardens Head of Gardens, described the combination: “In this pastel arrangement, delphiniums and Icelandic poppies offer a strong contrast in shape and movement.” Delphiniums bring upright lines; Icelandic poppies curve, giving the pairing variation in height and motion.

- HIGH-YIELD QUALITY TESTED HEIRLOOM QUALITY – Non-GMO 'Vera' lavender seeds, 1,500+ per pack, with strong germination potential. Grow abundant lavender plants indoors or outdoors from the most trusted heirloom English lavender variety.
That is one arrangement, not a prescription for every spring garden. If you borrow the idea, focus on the principle rather than copying the exact flowers: combine stems with different silhouettes, such as an upright focal shape and a softer, curving one. Keep the palette cohesive if you want a calm effect, or use stronger color contrast for more energy.
How to make a small arrangement feel intentional
- Choose by shape as well as color. Contrasting forms can create interest even when the palette is restrained.
- Use repetition deliberately. Repeating a bloom or form can make a compact bouquet feel unified, an approach also reflected in PHS’s flower-show observations.
- Try an unexpected botanical. A seed head or other textural element can interrupt a run of conventional blooms and add structure.
- Leave room for the stems to read. A small arrangement does not need to be crowded; visible spaces can help individual forms stand out.
These are ways to apply current floral-design ideas to a posy; PHS’s report does not specifically recommend them for posies.

Can you grow flowers for a posy garden?
Yes, if you choose flowers suited to your location and plan around their local growing and flowering windows. Delphinium seeds are one route to consider if you want upright stems for arrangements. The Homes & Gardens example links to seeds, but it does not establish that a particular listing is currently available or that a given variety will suit every garden. Check the seed supplier’s variety information and regional growing guidance before buying or sowing.
Spring timing varies by place and weather. In an April 13, 2026 report, The Guardian described spring flowering in England after a mix of warm and cold conditions. RHS Director of Gardens and Horticulture Tim Upson noted: “Throughout spring it is typical to experience episodes of warmer and cooler weather accelerating and decelerating plants’ development across the UK.” The report illustrates regional and weather-related variation in the UK; it is not a forecast for North America or other regions. Use local guidance for sowing dates and expect bloom timing to differ from year to year.
