Ooni lists a 12-inch pizza capacity and a maximum temperature of 850 °F (450 °C), while an independent reviewer praised its results but found that turning the pizza helped even out browning. Its main trade-offs are its size, weight and the need to check that your counter and bakeware can accommodate it.
Is the Ooni Volt 2 worth buying?
It makes the clearest case for cooks who want an electric pizza oven that can live and operate indoors. Ooni describes its Pizza Intelligence system as adaptive, and lists pizza presets alongside oven, broil and dough-proofing functions. Those are manufacturer-listed features, not a guarantee that every mode or preset will suit every recipe. See Ooni’s Volt 2 product page for the current US listing.
The Independent named it its best indoor pizza oven in a 2026 comparison. Its reviewer also described the appliance as large and heavy, and found that rotating pizzas improved evenness because heat tended to favor the back of the oven. That makes it a better fit for someone willing to monitor and turn a pizza than for a buyer expecting completely hands-off cooking. Read the Independent’s 2026 review.
How hot does it get, and how long does a pizza take?
Ooni specifies a temperature range of 70–850 °F (approximately 21–450 °C). The Independent reviewer reported a roughly 15-minute heat-up and a 90-second pizza cook claim or experience in its review. Treat those times as that review’s reported figures, not a promise for every dough, topping, starting temperature or kitchen setup. The manufacturer’s stated maximum is a product specification, not an independently verified cooking result.

Ooni also lists Boost Mode for additional top heat and multiple pizza presets. The Independent reviewer praised Boost, but the source does not establish that it removes the need to watch or rotate a pizza.
Do you need to rotate the pizza?
Rotation is useful for more even browning. In the Independent’s test, heat tended to sit toward the rear of the oven, and turning the pizza helped compensate. That is one reviewer’s observation; results can vary with the pizza and cooking conditions. Stay nearby while cooking: the manual says not to leave the oven unattended.

How much space does it need?
The oven is not a small countertop gadget: the Independent reviewer called it large and heavy. Before buying, check the appliance dimensions on the listing, make sure your counter can support its weight, and leave the clearance required by the manual. The manual also says to keep flammable items away, avoid placing the oven on glass or plastic, and consider a heat-resistant pad or trivet for additional surface protection. If you are unsure whether a surface is suitable, consult its manufacturer. See the Volt 2 manual and follow the regional instructions supplied with your unit.
Do not lift the oven with the stone installed. That handling instruction matters when planning where to store or move it.

Can it cook food besides pizza?
Ooni lists oven, broil and dough-proofing functions, as well as a multipurpose shelf. These features broaden its intended use beyond pizza, but they do not establish that every pan or tray will fit. Livingetc’s 2026 reviewer found that their existing trays did not fit during a planned muffin test. What to check before you buy
- Confirm that the current product listing’s 12-inch pizza capacity suits the pizzas you plan to make. Ooni’s 2025 launch announcement said it could cook pizzas up to 13 inches, but its current US product page describes a 12-inch oven; use the current listing rather than treating the launch claim as a guaranteed usable size. The announcement also described the chassis as 30% smaller than the Volt 12, a manufacturer comparison. See Ooni’s launch announcement.
- Measure the counter, nearby clearance and any bakeware you want to use; do not assume standard trays will fit.
- Plan for an indoor-only appliance. The manual says the Volt 2 is designed for indoor use only; it is not an outdoor pizza oven.
- Check the instructions for your region before setup and operation, including placement and handling guidance.
