The NuMe Megastar is a 1-inch flat iron with floating tourmaline ceramic plates and digital temperature control. Its adjustable heat and narrow plates give it flexibility for straightening and curling, but there is a notable specification mismatch: NuMe’s current listing says 140°F–450°F, while a 2022 review tested a model described as starting at 190°F. Check the range on the exact unit and its manual, and use the lowest temperature that works for your hair.
What is the NuMe Megastar?
The Megastar reviewed here is NuMe’s 1-inch flat iron, not the wider 1.75-inch Megastar X. NuMe lists floating, beveled tourmaline ceramic plates, digital controls, MCH ceramic heating, a negative-ion booster and an infrared light strip. Those are product features, not proof that the iron prevents damage or produces a particular hair-health benefit.
NuMe lists the plates as 4 inches long. The iron weighs 1 lb 9 oz and has an 8.5-foot cord. The company’s current product page listed the Megastar at $169 when accessed October 8, 2026; price and variant availability can change. See NuMe’s current Megastar listing.
Temperature range: confirm the exact unit
NuMe’s current listing gives a digital temperature range of 140°F–450°F but does not state control increments. Emma Rowley’s Tech Advisor review, published June 23, 2022, describes the tested iron as ranging from 190°F to 450°F in 20-degree steps, and says it reached 450°F in 45 seconds. These specifications do not match. The difference may reflect a product or specification change, so the older review should not be taken as the range of a unit sold today. NuMe’s suggested temperature bands are 250–300°F for fine hair, 300–350°F for medium hair and 350–400°F for thick or coarse hair. These are the manufacturer’s recommendations, not clinical safety thresholds. Start at the low end that is practical for your hair and increase only if needed. The 450°F maximum is not a target: frequent use at high heat may increase the risk of damage, and a heat-protectant product does not make any setting damage-free.
How well did it style hair?
In her 2022 review, Rowley tested the Megastar at 365°F on her own wavy hair, which she described as resistant to straightening, using sections about 1–2 inches wide. She called the results “impressive.” That is one reviewer’s observation on her hair and technique, not a result that can be guaranteed for other hair types.

Rowley also said the iron could be used to curl hair, but noted that curling was not her strength. The 1-inch plates offer a narrower styling footprint than a wide-plate iron, which may be useful for working in smaller sections or shaping hair. The review does not establish a comparative test against other models.
Do the plates snag hair?
The infrared strip creates a ridge in one plate. Rowley reported that she did not experience snagging during her test, while noting that the ridge could potentially catch hair. The review does not establish how the plate behaves across different hair textures or styling techniques, so inspect the plate surface and use a controlled glide rather than pulling a section through quickly.

Voltage, shutoff and travel details
- Voltage: NuMe lists universal 110–240V. International travelers may still need a plug adapter for the iron’s US plug; voltage compatibility does not change the plug shape.
- Automatic shutoff: NuMe says the default is 60 minutes and that the shutoff time can be adjusted in 15-minute increments.
- Storage and locking: Rowley’s 2022 review reported no travel lock and no heatproof case, mat or glove included with the unit she reviewed. Confirm what is included with the current variant before purchase.
How to use it more cautiously
- Start with completely dry hair and apply heat protectant, as NuMe recommends.
- Section hair into manageable pieces so each pass can be controlled.
- Choose a low setting appropriate to your hair and raise it only if necessary; NuMe’s published bands are guidance from the manufacturer.
- Glide the iron through each section without repeatedly passing over it, then let the hair cool.
Who should consider the Megastar?
The Megastar may suit someone seeking a 1-inch iron with adjustable digital heat, floating plates and universal voltage. It is less compelling if you specifically need a confirmed sub-190°F setting, a built-in travel lock or heat-safe storage included in the box. Those points should be checked against the exact model and current seller listing; the older independent review cannot verify the contents or specifications of every current variant.
Tech Advisor listed a $149 direct price and $151.20 Amazon price in its June 2022 review, along with UK Amazon unavailability at that time. Those are historical details, not current price or stock information. Compare the live price, seller, exact variant, shipping and return terms before buying.
